Purpose of this threadWith the recent fixes to the horntail disconnecting issues, there have been more and more people running horntail. With this, there are more and more ways to make runs faster. We wanted to create this thread to see what methods for running horntail that you, the MapleRoyals community, have been trying to make it faster. There is currently a record for the fastest horntail run (see below) but that had 6 players on 19 characters. We wanted to do something that anyone in the community can take part in, hopefully bringing out different party compositions and tactics in slaying the three-headed dragon. If you think you can beat our time, please try it and post your results! We will be working to improve our time as well. Rules To keep this fair, we wanted to create ground rules for anyone who wants to attempt this record. This means that in order to beat these records, you will have to come up with creative tactics and party compositions, it's not a matter of how many sed mules you can bring in. If you feel strongly against any of these rules, please feel free to let us know and we can revise them. 1. You may only have 6 active players (no mules allowed, single clients only) 2. The strongest attack buff item you may use are onyx apples (no gelts or demon elixirs, let's level the playing field here), mages can use cheeses You can use any attack pots you want 3. You must have a video of your accomplishment uploaded (if you put it on youtube, make it viewable by link only. Doing this will ensure that there is no "funny business"/cheating) 4. Make a reply to this thread with your party members (ign, level, class), the video, and your run time (starting when main body spawns) 5. If you have shadowers doing the meso explosion start method, make sure you include the meso drop time as a separate time (see our example below) 6. Not too long ago, we had a 5 shadower run in 34minutes for the main body. If it becomes a popular request, we can make a guide for how to do this. I did some looking into what the fastest horntail run in the server. The record is held by the guild Fryslan (you can find that here). Fryslan's record is 23min 13seconds (set in 2019). They had 6 active players over 19 characters in that run. With our run being ~10 minutes from the record, we talked with each other about trying to beat this record. But we also wanted to do something that the entire Royals community can take part in as well. That is how this thread came to be. What to expect from us in the future We are still going to try to beat Fryslan's record, but we might not be able to until we finish more mules. We will be experimenting with what we currently have in the meantime.
How about we spice up the competition. Bonus points for doing it with an unwashed party. Dark can be washed but if you are able to do it with an unwashed dark you guys are automatically god. Build a prize pot as an incentive?

hp washing or not washing isn't a valid "spice-up" but just merely the fact this is a mule-less run is pretty much spicy as it gets. No seduce mule to just afk, and everyone gets mass seduced since there's no dedicated seduce mule party on mass seduce. It engages enough strategy as it is and is a great record to hold. 6 guys. 6 clients. All teamwork, and is possible for most casual Royalers to compete. But I do want to bring up that gelt chocolates and demon-elixirs are "easily accessible" pots and should be allowed to be used as pots during these runs. They're not too pricey and easily able to stock up on by completing CWKPQ. And for those that don't apq, but CWKPQ regularly, we have more demon/gelts than apples sometimes. Moving forward there should be many more attempts, specifically using stronger attack pots and different strategies. I'm looking forward to the masses participating in these events and racing against each other. Who knows, a party of 6 well-formed and perfected strategists with no mules could outperform a 6-19client Nightlord run. Not being HP washed forces the use of a Dark and makes things more exciting. Who cares if a bunch of Max HP NL's speed run?
We are watching and waiting. So now Horntail has all sorts of speedrun categories apparently. Original% for six players on six attackers with unlimited mules: 23: 13. NoMule% for six players on six attackers with no mules: 29: 34. Unlimited% for any number of players on any number of attackers with unlimited mules: 12: 21.

R> 6-man (no Mule) HT run to challenge this record Through the past few years of running HT, I find that Shad/Bucc/Sair is the optimum combination of Multi and Single target at HT. So I'm looking for some strong Shads/Buccs to make this a 6-man run. I think DrK and Se might be valuable as well. Here are some theory party comps: 4 Shad, Sair, Bucc (4 SS, TL, 4 SS; 12m SS, 4m CD) More multi-target 3 Shad, 2 Sair, Bucc (3 SS, TL, 3 SS; 9m SS, 5.5m CD) More single-target 3 Shad, Sair, Bucc, DrK (3 SS, TL, 3 SS; 9m SS, 5.5m CD) Slightly Higher Multi-target from DrK 2 Shad, Sair, Bucc, DrK, SE (2 SS, TL, 2 SS; 6m SS, 7m CD) SE increasing Sair/Bucc/DrK DPS I find Crash not worth it in main-body speed runs as changing targets or multitarget DPS is better than the sacrifice of having a Paladin's low DPS, some suggest otherwise but further testing can verify if in a 6-man its worth it. I would also like to engage in a debate about which MM/BM is a better option for this since SI is in party We can test run on Apple then the record run will use demon elixirs, PM me if interested in joining
