Does anyone use this? I'm unable to open up Royals with it and was wondering if anyone knows how to configure it to be able to play.
I'm assuming that you have it already set up, but it won't open Royals. Do you get the display error? If so, enable 3D acceleration in the guest OS settings. If not, what error do you get or what have you 'set up' so far?
I set it up a while ago and kinda gave up on it but these are the display settings I had. I looked into it a little an already enabled the 3D acceleration but it didn't change anything.
I recognize that error message - there used to be threads about it all the time. Things that I recall have worked in the past: 1. Run the game as an admin 2. Run the game in compatibility mode, if you're on windows vista/7/8 - you want XP or 98 iirc. 3. change your screen resolution to various settings 4. You may need to update your graphics card drivers 5. Whatever matt & chok are talking about in http://royals.ms/forum/threads/gr2d-error.7239/ this thread. Good luck.
I already thought that would be the issue. IIRC, #5 should work. My W7 install runs Royals just fine without #1 - 4, but are beneficial. Let me (/us) know what worked.
Hm. I tried all of that and I got past the gr2d thing but I ran into another error. "The exception Integer division by zero." I looked into it a little and what I found was that I should downgrade the version of Oracle I was using but now I get this at the exact same time as I got the other error before downgrading: It's a bit upsetting because I used to use VMware Workstation but then it started to freeze upon starting Workstation. I then switched to VMware Player but after my laptop overheated once, it started to do the exact same thing. I've been stuck using two users on my laptop to log onto two characters at once and while it works alright for HSing for BF or something similar, it's extremely ineffective for what I used to do. I'd multiclient and HS mule in Zak, Krexel, and it just made everything easier. I was working on a SI mule but now I don't even see the point unless I can somehow get at least one of these working. I regret upgrading to windows 8 simply due to this.
Last thing you can try it changing the chipset (under System) to PIIX3, if it is not by default. Windows 8 + latest VirtualBox don't seem to get along unfortunately. Maple prefers XP, so I'd suggest to give that a try. XP simply runs better on "worse hardware" anyway. If you try XP -> install guest OS -> install guest additions -> change network adapter type to one of the PCnet options. Otherwise, it won't connect to internet.
