Well, there's something that quite interests me to find out more about it, and what other players might be thinking about it. Basically, its about attacking in boss runs as a bishop. As a Bishop, your role is to support your party and buff them and so on, and you're never considered an attacker. So, does that mean bishops should never attack in your opinion? When I use Genesis in a boss, they tell me not to use it. I never really cared enough to ask why and ask questions about this issue, I just did what I was told to do. But after thinking about it for some time, I actually have a few unanswered questions about this. Lets start with the whole attacking thing. First of all, should Bishops attack or not attack at all? If the answer is yes, and they should attack, atleast sometimes, then - which attack should they use in your opinion? As a Bishop we have Genesis, Angel Ray, and Bahamut. We also have others like Big Bang, but this is probably a useless skill, correct me if I'm wrong of course. Genesis is slow, attacks the whole screen, but deals a lot of damage. Its a mobbing skill. Angel Ray is 1v1, hits 1 enemy, and attacks at a normal speed. It doesnt do a lot of damage, but it could be seen as helpful to the overall DPS. Bahamut is a summon, the dragon attacks with you and follows you. It does nearly same damage as Angel Ray. So, if you would agree bishops need to attack, which one should they use and how often, if at all? Thank you.
They ask us to not use Genesis because before the last client resolution update, many people had crashing issues when there was too much happening in the screen, like when zak has all the arms and everyone is attacking. If you gene on top of it some people would disconnect and ruin the run. Today I think that it is not a common issue anymore, mainly if you have an avarege or above PC. But idk, some people might still have PTSD and want to assure you dont give a chance for them to crash, or they have an old PC and they will lose framerate. And about the DPS, Joon(the guy who writes all the bishop guides here) says that above a certain magic attack, attacking really starts making a difference at the overall dps. When I do Zak or Krex, I try to leave Bahamut up all the time, and use Angel ray as much as i can, but never prioritize it over dispelling efficiently. And at HT, of course, just worry about leaving your buffs up and genesis the wyrms.
Depends on your party, it is an unspoken understanding that Bishop’s job in boss runs are to support. Most of the times, the Bishop will leave party when the boss is dying to give more exp to the attackers. To attack or not to attack I think it’s up to the common agreement of the party. Some people don’t mind bishops to attack or to get exp, some of course do mind. If you play a Bishop to a boss run (public party), just communicate whether if you can attack and get exp. and you will be fine
What I do is if they didnt say anything when I attacked, that probably means they're okay with it and I can attack. If they tell me not to then I dont, but I think not attacking during the entire boss fight is too harsh. If everyone's buffed and I am done with the support I can probably attack when I have an opportunity, not for taking down the boss faster but for the feeling of actually doing something else other than being supportive only. If the reason they say not to use it is because it causes crashes, I can understand. But the other attacks probably dont cause crashes. Have you ever heard of anyone crashing when Angel Ray was used, or something else? Probably not. But they gotta understand, as Bishops we can get tired of doing the same supportive tasks, and want to attack here and there. Not frequently, but atleast sometimes throughout the whole thing thats happening at that moment.
