I'd like to point out the inconsistency and insensitivity that I saw in the way the staff handled @Kai's thread and infraction (click here for background info).

When Kai was asked to remove 'NotStaff' from the guild section of his profile, @Dave Deviluke pointed out the reasoning behind that request. He claimed that because the term 'Babi' had at times been used as an insult against Malay and Muslim communities in both Malaysia and Singapore, it was not appropriate that the IGN 'BabiKambing' sit so close to the guild name 'NotStaff' (which was in reference to a guild that staff members had made previously) in Kai's profile section.

I can understand that this was first a matter of enforcing the current rules around appropriate naming, and secondly an attempt to ensure that the staff as a whole could not be seen as tolerating such infractions no matter how minor they appear to be. Understandably so as the staff are meant to be role models for all players and have the responsiblity to enforce rules and ensure fairness for all.

But what surprised me came next. When it was pointed out that the term 'Babi' literally meant pig and that Kai had used it in a way that was not at all pejorative, the staff came down hard in an attempt to re-justify Dave's actions as though they had any basis in the first place. @Matt and @Muff suggested/hinted that action was taken becasue Kai, in doing so, had misrepresented his guild or ign. Like, where the hell did that come from? First, inappropriate name, and then now impersonation?

That is a not a good reason at all. And there hasn't been consistency in enforcing that. How many players on the forum have you seen over the past few years misrepresent themselves via fake IGNs, country flags, guilds on their profiles? Besides staff impersonation cases, I don't recall a single instance in which players have been asked to remove any of these.

It is for these reasons that I see this as an act of retailiation against Kai. In the past few weeks, he spoke out against the staff and urged them to do better on multiple occasions, and this thus comes across as selective, targeted and punitive policing. I know that I'm not alone in seeing this.

    Thank you for reading.

Thanks for this thread. I have made my point and removed the IGN and guild, although it is a fact that I used to play that IGN in said guild.

It is clear to me that I'm being targeted, likely for pointing out that some staff can do better (and of course, conveniently ignoring the posts where I praised staff for their contribution).

So if i ever get banned from forums, you know what happened -- i was silenced.

I write this wanting more clarity, and I guess consistency,

"However, like I've already mentioned, users can report others if they feel somebody is misrepresenting themselves as part of their guild or impersonating as somebody they are not for it to be looked into and removed. And, if users continue to do so after the fields being removed, we will of course look into issuing infractions, as it's just childish behaviour and trolling at that point." @Matt

Does misrepresenting, impersonation, of a guild/person also extend to in-game Royals, not just forums? I will be waiting for a response as many know *cough* Rogue *cough* some guild has received far more shit than anyone else but nothing has been done. If such harassment ensues, are we able to report them?

I'm equally baffled why this is even a thing. Otherwise i wouldn't have made a thread.

Kai did not receive an infraction. My mention of giving an infraction was a warning as to the consequences of reverting the removal of the user profile content. And the mention of impersonation does not apply in this instance and I was providing that simply as another example of where we would take action to change/remove use profile content.

I do not feel that forum users should be allowed to impersonate others by means of IGN in their user profile, if reported by the affected user it will be removed. And for users specifying an incorrect guild; if you are not part of that guild and the guild does not want the user profile to be associated with them, if reported we will remove those too. These both seem like reasonable actions to take. I don't see much of an issue with using a fake IGN, country flag or guild as long as it isn't affecting anyone else.

Player impersonation is stated in the terms and conditions under account registration, this would apply to users pretending to be the other user, rather than simply a very similar character name. If a guild feels like they are being harassed by others in-game then they should open a report about the issue.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I misspoke earlier, I meant to question why the staff later changed their reasoning behind this to point out that Kai had misled others by simply having the IGN 'BabiKambing' and guild 'NotStaff' listed in his profile. But if that wasn't the reason behind all of this, why was it necessary to remove Kai's IGN and guild and why even bother about it in the first place? What was the issue about this?? Who was so affected that they had to report this? I'm trying to understand why 3 staff members thought it necessary to go down this route.

In the situation where a guild felt targeted by another guild, I would strongly recommend submitting a Report with the supporting screenshots so that the Staff can discuss the matter such as the necessary actions to be taken

How am I harassing NotStaff? How am I pretending to be NotKaii when that is literally me? Did the staff who's offended (for god knows what reason) made an OFFICIAL report abuse in the appropriate section, following protocol?

If he did, please provide evidence that the report was made, and when the decision was made, prior to my info being removed. Otherwise I'm just going to assume this is something reported within staff chat, which goes against protocol (because when we created NotStaff, it's clearly specified that it has nothing to do with Staff, and it shouldn't. It should be treated as a separate entity, with no affiliation to the Staff guild. So any offences against NotStaff should be filed accordingly in Report Abuse).

Only the guild was removed by a Staff member, and so I presume the IGN was removed by Kai afterwards. Dave gave his thoughts about why the IGN and guild may not have been a good combination, but as he mentioned, was unable to provide details of why the guild was removed. So I stepped in to provide some clarification about how and when user profile information could be requested to be changed by others. The issue in this case is a guild that does not want to be associated with the user and the content of their posts, due to that fact the user is no longer part of the guild, and that the user is permanently banned from the game for account sharing and suspected GM abuse.

Please address this in the next blog or something so players know that it is an option to report someone's forum profile. Thanks.

Considering that the guild in question was a GM-only guild, this seems like politics between the staff team and an ex-staff member. Honestly, whoever removed it, I think it's unnecessary for them to use staff powers to get their way, and a conflict of interest to use these powers to settle a private dispute that they were personally involved in. Politics should not shape how and where you enforce the rules. As @Evan pointed out in the other thread, barely any staff action on forum profile information, apart from staff impersonation cases, had been taken in the past. Well, until now.

I'm sure that others, after reading @Kai's thread, too feel like the staff team may have gone too far on this one. They recognise that 'NotStaff' is a meme/fun guild and that Kai must have enjoyed spending time with his colleagues there, so that's why there are some people who found it unnecessary for the staff teeam to intervene or even make this an issue in the first place.

and @Sen I PM'd you like 10 hours ago, youve had the time to respond so I'm going to post this here now.

You should give up ownership of the blacklist as a matter of consistency.

Since Kai can't have fun with his profile, which was hurting absolutely no one, you shouldn't be allowed have a thread previously deemed not allowed to be owned by Staff as it's not officially endorsed by Staff.

Might as well enforce rules when appropriate, no?

    1. Please don't privately message me on discord as a way to influence how I do my job.

    2. I don't respond to threats.

With that out of the way, I still have yet to understand two things:

    1. What does the fact that I manage the Community Blacklist have anything to do with the way Staff have chosen to enforce the rules with Kai's profile? For the record, I don't agree with what had occurred but this situation is completely besides the point of what you're asking of me here. Should Becca hand over the Community Whitelist? Should Dasha hand over the Degeneracy thread? Should Vincent hand over his Shadower guide? I honestly just don't see why you're using this situation to push whatever this asinine blacklist thread agenda is. Because as far as I understand, you're just salty that you were asked to relinquish ownership of the blacklist when you were Staff and now the thread is currently being managed by a member of Staff.

    2. Why are you under the impression that I'm just absolutely dying to spend all of my extra time and energy managing the community blacklist? I hated managing the blacklist the first time around, and I hate it even more this time around because I have actual responsibilities on the forums and I make an effort to not dick around the thread to farm forum likes. I mean jesus christ after all that work the original post only has 13 likes lmao (feel free to throw me a bone, y'all). I took over the blacklist the second time around specifically as a favor to Becca, who was managing the blacklist at the time and found it too stressful to do so while maintaining her actual duties as GM.

So let this be my official announcement that I actually am open to a different member of the community taking ownership of the blacklist. Not because I need to according to you, but because I fucking want to.

You should, as precedent was set previously.

I'm bringing it up, because I never had an issue with staff having ownership of it- others did, and when you and Becca became Staff, I wasn't about to be petty about it- but things sort of change when Staff is just throwing Kai under the bus for putting a guild he was in, because its in his profile now that he isn't staff.

    It's just petty.

And there's a difference between the "Community" threads, and guides. Which have always been written by Staff and Non-Staff and was never an issue.

Just playing the game as it's been set.

fwiw, the rules still don't reflect our last discussion either. Your SS, which you got from Dave I assume, conveniently leaves out how I don't want to make a huge ass thread. If I do I'm bringing up a whole slew of other shit. I don't want to start shit. But I will... meet me half way here. All Kai wanted was to put NotStaff in his profile, who is that hurting?

Although I disagree with how you use Kai's matter to justify Sen or any other Staff not supposed to hold the blacklist, I don't intend to argue with you on this matter

What's more important is, if you feel Sen or any other Staff should not hold the blacklist, you may approach or nominate someone who you think would be good to handle the blacklist - unless you want to takeover the blacklist

I don't think it's fair to push Sen to give up the blacklist asap without a proper handover
