Hi there! Those of you from back in the day will remember how there were barely any GM Events being hosted, and whenever there were; it was usually the same ~4 or so in total. With the recent new GM Events that were added (both custom, and remakes of Jump Quest maps that are already in-game) we are curious to hear your feedback and thoughts with these new additions! Feel free to share some ideas you might have for future GM Events too! FAQ: Q: "Can you remove cape effects please?" A: I wish we could my friend, however we have tried and those pesky effects are unfortunately here to stay. Same goes for ring effects, or cash shop effects as well. Q: "Could you duplicate the same map to distribute the crowded screen issues during JQs?" A: It was definitely thought of, however how could a single GM keep track of every map that's in use? How will we know who's gotten to the top for their prize(s)? I think it could be do-able for regular Events that aren't JQs, but I also feel like the crowded aspect of it is authentic too so I'm not too sure, it feels like a bit of a grey area to me! Q: "Why do we have so many JQ Events???" A: Because MapleStory Royals is a 2D Platform game, silly! Unfortunately there is only so much we can do with the v83 client, we do have a handful of Events that aren't JQs and a couple of them are team based like SnowBall (currently broken atm) and Coconut Harvest. I find trying to figure out mechanically-speaking how to make an Event 'work' with unique quirks and such do take up quite a bit of free time, as opposed to making something simple like Crane Climb, or Ola Ola. I don't mind taking an idea and messing around for a bit with it though! (I haven't made any official JQs yet aside from Lith Harbor, but I promise they'll be most likely pretty easy or moderate difficulty, similar to Fitness.) (Ask some questions down below if I missed any! I'll do my best to answer them accordingly.)
I think events have been fun/funny so far but I have some meme simple rough ideas for events Can’t be knocked down challenge (Name needs work) Setting: Players are wrap to a map with just one? platform with gaps Chaos ensues as random mobs hit you down the small platform Stars, spike balls, explosions, gm attacks get thrown your way to knock you off Win condition: Last 5 standing wins / Last a total of 10mins to get a prize We hit more team challenge (I can’t do names) Setting: Red team and blue team each get one really big monster spawn on the map Kinda like the big cake monster event Damage capped at 10 Win condition: Team to kill monster first wins GM vs players , can't touch me challenge Setting: Players are wrap to a jump quest with players given a small head start Chaos ensue as gm chases players from behind Preferably hosted by gm who cannot do JQ :3 Win condition: Don't get poke by gm
I like summer dash. Short and simple, but engaging enough and has worthwhile prizes imo. I don't really mind JQs in general, but the starting lag makes them not enjoyable for me when it comes to the longer and more challenging events. For the second question, I think you could alleviate a lot of lag just by adding more subsections that divide the players (kind of like how the first subsection of summer dash does this except people communicate so much faster now that it doesnt help much at all lol). Is it also possible to just have a longer distance to avoid loading the same players again once they reach the next subsection? (like people that complete the banana part first that unload then RELOAD on the minimap when they use the portal to bring them back down to the right). Obviously would take a lot of experimenting and it's more of a bandaid fix to how the client loads things.
Any chance let gm event not only 1 channel? Toooo Lag and hard to jq might split to 2~3channels let ppl go in for ex ch 4 ch 8 ch 12 all can go in event (same event), just split ppl no lag , tq
If you're talking about summer dash, there is more than 1 room, so if you want less people, just enter the event near the end (like 20 seconds before the event starts). One of my guildie got a room with only 3 people in it.
my humble suggestion for a recurring gm event ! https://royals.ms/forum/threads/a-ht-tournament-style-event.195069/
I’m not a big fan of RR due to a few reasons, so unfortunately another another GM would have to. Spoiler: If people would like to know why lol The main one would be the stigma that’s been (unfortunately) proven true in some cases, where the GM will abuse it for their friends and that’s not really something I want attached to my name, by having false rumours being spread around. RR is a lot of work on the GMs side, if you don’t do 50/50 you’re looking at over an hour of spamming /stun and /timer until a few people remain. If you do 50/50 a few times it’s still looking at around 40+ min or more. I would personally rather do an event that is either super quick, or monitor the JQ winners and leave (sometimes I’ll stick around too! I really enjoy getting a chance to talk to everyone that makes it to the top ) so I can get other tasks done during my free time. My health also hasn’t been the greatest ever since February, I am unable to sit for long periods of time due to 3 herniated discs in my lower back and tailbone, and a few other surgery required issues that I need to wait for because the waiting time is 1-3 years. I’m unfortunately limited in my free time overall, and what I can do because of this. There is a lot to do as a GM in-game (catching hackers, checking reports, etc.) that I would also like to focus on too. If I host a RR almost all of my time in-game will be spent focusing on that, whereas if I host a different event I can still dedicate time to remove those people from the game! :^) TLDR: It’s not something I can feasibly do, and I’m really sorry about that.
Still wondering why don't we just make an automated GM command where you let the game randomly pick a numbers/platforms for you guys instead of having to rely on manually picking numbers/platforms that has a higher chance of it being rigged or anything, just asking
Make two commands for it, one for 50/50 where it picks top or bottom/A or B, and one for the actual RR where it picks which platforms should be eliminated (assuming we are using Amoria PQ map, so make it A,2,B,3,C,6,D,9 and 5). Machines, AI and scripts don't care if you are friends with it or not, so yeah- Also, will there be a chance we might be getting two more vanilla GM events like X/O Quiz or Find the Jewel event?
Binyot4GM when!? We have the OX map in use currently, but it's all manual and isn't properly set up yet! and Find the Jewel is also on our to-do list! However our to-do list is extremely long, so I'm unsure when it'll be fully fleshed out in the meantime. I'd love to try to create some nostalgic/vanilla-style Events as well, so that way we can have more!
On regards of what happened with RR, could you implement ...erm... an actual roullete? EDIT.- I see this is suggested in the last minutes, LOL
Hope GM events which require some form of platform jumping allows for the consideration of multiple people jumping on the same platform which somehow makes the platform disappear. hopefully making multiple starting sections can be considered or removing such choke points where an obstacle is followed directly after can be considered too
I have been keeping an eye on that specifically. Unfortunately we can't tell where players will bottleneck until the Event is on Live and it's in use. We'll definitely make adjustments if needed (and have some in progress already) and it will be implemented during the next Patch!
The quiz event yesterday was great. It does seem very manual which takes a really long time. Everyone has to go up and down. Nonetheless it was fun.
I am curious. What really is the need for everyone to go back up? If someone decides to afk in the X spot per say, and that ends up being the correct answer to the next question, then so be it! Luck is a part of it too...Just set a timer and let people decide to go left or right. Also RR can be sped up. That's why I liked the last RR I was in. 50/50 3 times. Then have 2 GMs hiding, then block all the top platforms, and you can get through it quicker and can finish it in ~20 mins.
As someone who likes doing JQ but can't when my craptop gets lagged out at the beginning part, I do have a suggestion - Split up the JQ into different lobbies (to alleviate the lag) and add a final stage that all lobbies merges into. Thus you get to see whos winning as a GM and the huge mass of people at the beginning doesn't make JQ impossible for the players (At least those from bad PCs).
