Before I start I want to say this - Even if people would agree with me, it should not be a priority. Fixing the original core is a lot more important in my opinion. So here's what I've been thinking - every character that was ever made in the game will have a profile page. The profile page will contain: Guild History, Class, Level, Fame and Pets. Optional: What equipments the characters is wearing and their stats, Character's stats, Wishlist and a private message option. - Private message option: Basically, you will PM the character's owner through the website, and it will get it in-game through the notifications system. Wouldn't be awesome? It's like an upgraded rank system. I'd find it very useful when the person I'm looking for is offline. - Daily mobs counter - it will count and present how many mobs you kill each day. There could be a boss counter too. A REALLY ROUGH DEMO (because I love making these ): EDIT: Opps, that typo tho xD Guild* It would probably look nothing like it but you know... w/o. So what do you think?
And result in even more database reads (lag)?!?! No way! (Joking here) Uhmm.. Summary: New Features: Wishlist, Pet, Guild History (is this implemented? might need a new db slot..), Married status. Equipment and stats.. that could go two ways maybe three. One way, people won't want to steal equips anymore cause they know people can check if they are wearing them, second, people will get harrassed for having some item, fourth, the player becomes a hacker's target and really just removes the privacy feature altogether. It might change item prices as it'd allow people to calculate value more accurately etc. Could potentially really change the gameplay, I think this feature should remain GM only. PM the character, that would require a DB write for every PM to ensure it lasts through server checks, thus putting this even further down the line of development, since we are probably still optimizing DB IO. Overall, it would be nice but definitely no item stats. Maybe instead of wishlist they can choose to display some sort of items they wanna show off or sell. That would be nice. Guild history.. I dunnoo........ that can be sorta personal and should probably also be GM only. Even showing your rank in the guild can be personal. Like being the JR or leader of a large guild can make you a hacking target. Also, it will definitely need some good features that make it stand out from the current ranking system. What do you think about my critique?
As long as you're coming from a honest place I'll welcome it everytime. Equipment and stats - I should've explain it a little bit more because I wrote it very poorly. This will be an option only, not a must. Every player would be able to choose if he wants to display them or not. If he is, he can choose which items he wants to display, which can be very useful for sales, like you said, and I have to give you a huge credit for it because I didn't actually thought about it. I personally don't mind waiting (as long as I get an official response) like I said it should not be a priority. Well, I don't think people would mind it that much. If you actually didn't made a list of your guild history, you'd be able to scroll down at your profile and just look at it and be reminded of the good old days. But if other people do mind it then it should be an option too. As long as it's optimized and people have their privacy it's a nice middle ground fore everyone. I'm all open for suggestions.
Can't edit main post so here's an update - it will also show when the character was created, and last login.
Another update - 1. It will also display location \ region according to the IP. 2. It will show how much EXP you made each day. 3. It will show how many monsters you've killed, and how many times you died.
This sounds really cool, altough it's a good idea to let players decide what shows up because of hacking. Can I suggest adding quest completed to the status?
Not to be rude of course, but if you're gonna say something like that, the least you can do is to explain yourself. These are all suggestions btw, I'm not saying that 100% of them will make the final cut. I'd love that!
Some people like some privacy and do not wish to provide their country or other personal information, which is very understandable if you play on an illegal Private Server, or work/develop on it.
I would kill for a counter that shows you how much time you've been playing, but I don't think it would be accurate/possible as the server is a few years old and we've bee playing for collective days now ;_;
Honestly.. Doesn't this seem a bit over the top? How much exp you made a day, how many monsters killed, how many times you've died, and where you live seem like useless information and would probably require a lot of work for that.
When you double-click on somebody in game it will show you everything that you're talking about besides the kills experience gained etc. that way nobody can judge how you play so in game you basically already have a profile
i actually like this idea but first we need the new source. W/O new source theres no point in adding new "big" stuff. But in general, i pretty much like all the concept.
It's not really the same thing, this system will usually function when you need to check info about an offline player, or how many exp you made yesterday for example, or in case you don't remember your guild history etc. It's a very fun system. In my opinion, I don't see a problem with introducing features like that. I can see a lot of people using it, myself included. This will actually make the website a lot more useable and I'm sure that newcomers will love this idea, probably because they never saw it before. And I believe it will also expand the community a little bit more, which is already growing by the day. It's basically a statistics system. And yeah I do agree that they have better things to do (fixing the pirate class is one of them) but you know they can put it on hold and do it whenever it's possible, only if they agree with me ofc
