i think this idea has been tossed around by quite a few players, just want to open up a discussion on whether sometimes (not always, but in exceptional cases, for popular players) have an official poll by Staff, to ban the player or to clear them of all charges. if more than n players, say more than 1500 players vote 'clear of all charges', then the ban gets lifted

    your thoughts, fellow maplers?

I was on the team for having some community input on certain bans, some things have changed since then. New staff members, a more direct approach in ban appeals. I believe we've got a good batch at the moment and trust that the staff can make an informed decision without our input.
Define 'popular' players and how far would your amnesty approach to them go. Do you intend on making a list of 'popular' players? What qualifies someone to be popular?

I'm not saying the current system is bad right now, I'm just trying to stir up some drama from players who think otherwise.

and true, I have not clearly defined 'popular' - maybe a formula of fame/forum likes/summation of character levels, i'm sure something can be come up with. maybe when there's a certain amount of 'hype' about an appeal a poll gets triggered?

Does this mean the openness of the game log as evidence? Let the majority of the players be the public judge? Being a private server should be basically impossible, especially if there is no cash transaction as a condition for lifting the ban. :寒冷:

We never know if their stories are real or not, nor do we have evidence or tools to suspect them like GMs have.
Players who got banned or their friends will try everything to get back even if they have done something wrong.
Assuming GMs make all the evidence and system to the public, it only helps hackers and Rwters to get better.
More systems just make things more complicated and increase the unnecessary workload for GMs.

I think trial by jump quest would be fine, if they can complete sea gorge with skull on in under 5 minutes they earn their freedom.

We do not need any more of this.

For RWT/VA cases it would basically require those "popular" players to be given database access. For other cases it would require us to make reports/evidence public. Both of this will not happen as it will only teach cheaters how to avoid being caught.

Closing this before it turns into a shitshow by "wrongfully" banned people.
