Most likely he means strangers, such as Whisper harassment, not your friends.

Not profanity in general, just the n word and the f word. If you whisper a friend you can use it but be careful since anyone can report you.

Just avoid using racial and homophobic slurs in general and you will not have any problems.

    By f word I mean f*g

    Swear filter isn't needed.
It just blocks some words, while It shouldn't.
If you get insulted, or you see any other mean words, just ignore it.

Except when someone says n*gga they aren't being racist. I literally just walked into the ER and over heard a patient tell a nurse "Ay can I use the phone I gotta call one of my n*ggas to come pick me up." This is 2015 and I'm pretty sure he wasn't a owner of a farm and had slaves.

A profanity filter for those two words would be good because most people don't think of n*gga as a racial thing anymore. Usually it's just a different word for homie/friend. We're all from different cultures and were raised different ways. I'm white and I have people call me it all the time. Getting offended by a word that's said out of respect is just silly and reporting someone for it is just sad.

If you are offended by a word tell the person who said it how you feel about the word and then tell them the rule on it. Give them a chance to apologize for being new and being ignorant of the no tolerance policy on those two words. Most people who play games don't visit forums even though it tells you to in game. This is the first community I've been apart of that's had such strict rules on words so I doubt anyone even thought of n*gga being bannable.

Lastly some advice for veterans on here. I've been apart of a game for 5 years and it's finally dying because veterans always picked on new players. Every time you report someone for one of these words you're hurting the game more than you're helping it. The more players the better. All those people you reported for remedial things could have acquired white scrolls, chaos scrolls, ap resets, etc. that you could have bought. New players are essential to MMOs and pushing them away is the dumbest thing you can do. Although I disagree with Matts ruling on the word n*gga I will obey it.

When a word's main meaning was meant to be offensive / discriminating, it is not a good word to use in public at all. There will always be people looking at you thinking you are a bad influence to the world when you use such language for no real reason at all. In such situations you should not think "Do I find this offensive", but "Would others possibly find this offensive if they heard this?" and the answer to the 2nd question is most likely a yes. As "n*gga" still refers to the word"n*gger" and thus is a word that's being used a lot to discriminate black people, as well as "f*g" refering to "f*ggot" which is also targeting a group of people who are being discriminated , it is not a word you should consider as funny and okay to use. There are still plenty of people who get discriminated by those 2 words in the world, just because it's not in your little area where you live, just doesn't mean it's okay to use it everywhere. You deal with people from all across the world when you're online, and thus the chances of talking to someone who lives in an area where it is used as a tool for discrimination is just too big. Have you ever thought about that? I guess you didn't .. "It's 2015" so you think everything should be tollerated by others even when it's rude or offensive.

You have your opinion and I have my opinion. My opinion is everyone shouldn't have to walk on egg shells around certain people because they might be offended. People take things too seriously and need to just chill.

The rule about using the N word is not going to change. You can feel free to continue expressing your opinions on it in another thread like this one though, which would probably be more appropriate.

Pretty much this. But more of a reason to have a swear filter. If you can get banned for using a certain word, why not just have a filter for it all together? People come from many different walks of life and what you deem offensive is not offensive to everyone.

    Example:

I hate people who aren't well versed in English. I think it's offensive when you butcher the language because you can't convey yourself appropriately. Often times more than not, if English isn't your primary language and you play on the server, you're more than likely share the exact same characteristics of other players who also don't have English as their primary language. Symptoms include Poor vocabulary, inappropriate use of words or phrases, constant misspellings, generally less intelligent than someone who does speak English, child like behavior, rises to anger quickly, can't convey themselves almost at all, and in most cases attributes to high levels of goon like behavior.

Should these people not be allowed to play maple because of my sensitivities? I think it's very offensive that players can't communicate with other players on a server whose primary language is English. The answer should be no and that's part of my point. If we're going to base what's offensive and not offensive to a minority than all things should be based like that. If it can't, then it shouldn't be.

What's deemed offensive is determined by you. Matt. Which is perfectly fine but what would be more fine is a swear filter. That way, everyone gets what they want. I can have my freedom of speech and sensitive people can have their censored speech.

As it is now, there is just no censored speech but quite a few people offended by their interpretations of the word which in every single case, they're wrong. They don''t understand the context or they're oblivious to white washed cultures.

You know what would make me more happy than a swear filter? Exams written in rudimentary level English exam that players must achieve a 85% or higher in order to play royals. Nothing extreme like college level English but enough to where you have to speak the language fluently in order to play. This exam would be a requirement every week to play. Improves your English if yours sucks, and keeps players who don't speak acceptable levels of English out of the game.

    But those are my gripes.

I see it as a big difference between calling someone various offensive terms and crying on spelling errors. This isn't a english only server
With your outstanding english level it can't be very hard to use different words

    Like, "What's up, my ninja?"

I still prefer to say ni**a.
Yes, I'm white.. But why only can people black people say that word?
Maybe I'm just black inside. Always have respected diffrent color people.
Never ment to disrespect or insult someone. Just can't stop saying, it's too catchy.

It's safe to say that neither white or black people are allowed to say the n word here, it's just not tollerated at all. I'm sure you can find another word that's just as catchy to use that is not the n word, if not then well.. Rip

Closing this thread since it is going off topic, even after my suggestion of using another thread to discuss that word.
