HP Washing drives new players away because there's nothing in the game that tells you about it or helps you do it. You HAVE to look up forum guides which suggest calculators and designing your character around doing content you've never heard of. This exposes new players to conflicting and outdated opinions about washing My Suggestion: Remove INT-based MP gain on level-up entirely. Instead, it will be replaced with a once-per-level repeatable quest. The quest can be accepted/finished anytime, anywhere via a lightbulb above your head (or something idk), and would feature a new or existing NPC who will reward you extra base-MP based on your INT stat + equips. This NPC will inform you that this extra MP can be distributed into other stats using AP resets. This quest would also have the option to toggle auto-completion upon levelling up, rewarding extra base mp in an identical manner to the system in place today, for people who prefer the current system. This quest would ALSO auto-complete upon levelling up if you did not complete it for your current level so that you don't accidentally skip getting extra MP entirely, and also to keep it identical with the current system Another NPC could be added to automate the process of washing. This NPC would inform you how many times you can take AP from your base MP, and will automatically reset the points for you if you bring them the AP resets, to be distributed whenever you please. There no indication that washing will leave the server. Why not make it easier to understand by presenting it as an actual mechanic?
HP Washing drives new players away because there's nothing in the game that tells you about it or helps you do it -> I agree with you it's definitely an intimidating topic and I have seen players quit because their guild members would tell them "oh you are not washing? you should remake that character" oh "you need 200 base int by lvl 50 else you won't be able to participate in end game bosses" I agree a hint should be added to the game that says "hey did you know for every 10 base int you have when you level you can gain an additional 1 mp" Although your idea of a quest every level is a good idea ultimately it potentially will affect new players on thinking this is something they need to prioritize each level and in reality the Maple Royals staff have limited resources to maintain this game. About me I am 185 drk in Mapleroyals with max base HP. In GMS I played the DK class before 4th job was announced and eventually also washed my lvl 166 drk to 18.75k HP in GMS so I could zerk with 40% HP. I only did this because I was invested in the game and knew I wanted to do more end game content. I also acknowledged that none of my other friends did it and was totally not required to enjoy Maple on how we really liked to enjoy it. TLDR I don't believe we need to remove HP washing it's a clever mechanic that we can leverage to maximise our characters but we need to move away from the mentality that it's required. There are many examples of NL's and BM's who gained HP via alternative methods and enjoy the game. This mechanic was also in GMS but was not abused as much because not everyone could enjoy endgame content (1x exp) and NX was paid for by either stealing your moms credit card or working park time at American Eagle and buy NX cards (which neither were desirable).... Hence we played MapleStory properly by Henneyhoeing and showing off our KMS jump style in LPQ. Current Situation Maple royal staff have provided alternatives to HP washing already for HP gain. 1) gain 1k / 500 hp quest search for the Elixer of Life (amazing!) 2) gain 20/40 hp daily Reul's quest 3) An adventures quest-line + 3000 HP Do you need to Wash? My answer is a resounding HELL NO. Don't kid your self you did not make a character on GMS when you were 15 years old with a goal of doing Pink Pink with out HB on your first character. Why do we have that expectation when we create a character in Maple Royals that I should be min/maxed on my first character. The conversation back then was should I have 25 dex or 60 dex or 80 dex on my assassin. You can always do the above three things to gain HP and always party with a dragon knight to get HB if you really need it. If you want to wash you do it on a character later on once you are already invested in the server / game and know what you really want to do here. You need the funds to gear your character and do content but I see new players pumping all their stats into INT and forcing them selves to leech to level. Just because that's how veterans enjoy to play Royals does not mean that new players should mimic that. Apologies for the long rant but I wish everyone a happy Mapling experience ^^
Personally, I do not think the above will entice newbies since they would still need to farm and gather INT gears (not a huge difference from the actual HP washing) The route of gaining HP via Quests would be less demanding (in terms of INT) https://royals.ms/forum/threads/water-from-the-spring-of-youth.124038/ https://royals.ms/forum/threads/com...ir-of-life-reuel-hp-quest-guide-lv120.178648/ https://royals.ms/forum/threads/an-adventurers-assignment-questline.218626/ I am supportive of more quests (or some other ways to get HP without the need for INT) However, I think it's fine should players still wish to gain HP via the traditional HP washing
Instead of changing HP washing the water of life quests should give a minimum amount of hp. Nothing feels worse than to spend 1/2 an hour on Water of life then to only get 20. Maybe making the minimum HP acquired be 50 per quest?
I tried to tailor my suggestion to make it functionally identical to HP-washing as it is now. It's just something that would present the idea of 'gaining MP based on INT and redistributing that extra MP' through in-game methods, while simultaneously alleviating some of the frustrations and tedium of washing (forgetting to swap gear before levelling, having to reset each point by hand, class specific washing, the idea of fresh AP). Some new players don't even know about washing until their 3rd job. With an in-game quest telling them that any extra INT they get will give them extra MP which they could use to get even stronger... they might intuit themselves that getting INT gear (and using it for this repeatable quest) is a good idea without the need to be told/surprised by other players. From your perspective you are maximizing your character's potential. To others, their character is crippled, weak, unfun, or not worthwhile in comparison, with no way to bridge the gap beyond remaking their character. More importantly, maximising your character's potential through HP washing is not fun. The Forum Mod that replied to me has a link in their signature to get hardcore washers through their 2nd job advancement. The idea of an early game being so challenging that something as basic as 2nd job being a roadblock is cool, which is why people make perma-beginners or ironman accounts. But the solution for HP-washers is always to get leeched. There's no real challenge or fun to be had in maximizing your account through HP washing, at least with the options we're presented with now. As far as I can tell, as someone who has no experience washing, it's simply something that makes level ranges and requirements for bossing inconsistent. It also creates an economy for INT equips, ruins the early game experience, and turns away what I believe to be a severely underestimated amount of new players. It's easy to think it's not a problem when alternatives exist and you know about them and you know how washing works and you're already having fun with the game, but for everyone else it's simply discouraging. I've never done this quest. It sounds like something that should take 5-10 minutes max so you can focus on doing what you want to do instead? It's already timegated by a daily quest, no need for it to take an inconvenient amount of time
We do not plan to remove HP washing from the game. There are plenty HP washing alternatives out there already as people have mentioned. Thanks for your feedback!
