Can I have that? Looks so much better than mine. I'll show you a picture later when I get to work, but it's not as pretty.

By far the coolest car (prius) I've ever gotten to service.

How can you tell if your car is overheating? Whenever I drive around for a long period of time, I always check the temperature of the hood and it's almost burning hot most of the time. The temperature gauge on the dash stays constantly in the middle, but doesn't reflect the temperature of the hood. I've been turning on the A/C on hot to cool the engine off, but I'm wondering if there's a more reliable solution?

Not really, those V6 motors are hot because of the higher than usual compression inside the motor causing high output of hot air. One good thing you can do is keep your throttle body as clean as possible by either heaving it cleaned or youtube your engine size and model for a walkthrough, as well as cleaning your MAF (Mass Airflow sensor) located on your airbox.
This will open the airflow to your motor and the motor will consume more of the hot air, rather than push it all out.

Also, for your over heating question, your temp guage is the only way to tell, that's the engine's coolant, if it's in the middle you aren't over heating.

    Goodluck!

Getting a new car finally. It's an Honda Fit. I think it's a decent fit for my usage (heh heh). I've read some reviews on it and it seems to be very well received compared to other subcompact cars. Really like the small size, but any idea on the maintenance of this car and how it will do going up pretty steep hills on the daily?

With low torque and horsepower, not amazingly but it will do the job and keep money in your pocket ( that gas mileage).
As far as maintenance goes they are great cars. Look up general problems with the car's make, model and year. Also Honda is notorious for their automatic transmission failures, so be sure, especially with all of that up hill trekking you'll be doing, that you look into that model and year's history of transmission success/ failures.
If you're buying a brand new car, forget everything i just said unless you're like me and want that perfect ride (it's not out there). All vehicles, as sad as it may be, have things the factory does on purpose to have you return (recalls, weak seals[GM], etc).

Let me know if you need anything else I have @Plenty :D of knowledge doing nothing but paying my bills lol.

I kind of figured. That's why I built my own computer to know every nook and cranny of my computer. A subcompact car is definitely for me since I live in the city and commuting is not fun for the most part. I've been checking other subcompacts and they don't seem to hold a candle to the Honda Fit.

Any idea what might be a decent price for an automatic LX? I'm going to try and haggle the price a bit to save some lunch money and I want to get the best deal possible.

    @Plenty
Go online find a Honda dealer near you, build a Fit, the way you want, then request a online quote. Should get the quote in an email and someone will most likely call you. With Honda car's I've gotten quotes 2-5k off MSRP. It says in the email that the quotes only last 24hrs but im pretty sure if u get a quote and bring that quote to the dealer they will sell you the car. MSRP of an Fit LX with CVT says for me 16k i would buy for 14k easy. Also there is a lot of Honda dealers in California be aggressive.

    Completely agreed.
Buying a BRAND new car, to me is a waste of money since you lose about 5k value driving off the lot. Buy a cheap one they used as a rental or show car with a few hundred miles on it! Great deals on those.

Even with 5 miles on the car it is no longer "new" and most definitely will be discounted.

    Completely unrelated

    Todays task : Head gasket

    2002 buick century 3.1

Just got the head back from the machine shop for the castings to be machined etc.
I am now doing all of my gaskets on the way back out (lower and upper intakes, water pump, thermostat, valve covers etc etc) since I'm there anyways and GM sucks.

Also I forgot this, when you buy a NEW car you aren't buying the floor model, you're buying a 0 mile car off of the truck that brings them in. When you arrive that floor model will most likely still be there unless you insist on a car with a few miles.

I've been checking online for prices on a brand new car and a one that's been used a bit, but I don't see any difference in prices. I'll try to get another quote on one and see if any interesting offers come in.
