Guide to Alternate Zakum Jump Quest

LONG REVIEW WARNING:

Finished this quest after about 10 hours of item farming. Blins & Ice Drakes definitely gave me the most trouble, I'd recommend those item requirements to be shortened to 100etc items to collect, as you truly have no idea when you're going to be finished with that part of the quest as the drops are very inconsistent. Took me about 750 Red Drakes to get the dragonfire ring as well, that part was pretty difficult.
I think people should consider the meso-cost of this quest before going into it, as the purchasable etc items (like power crystals, dex crystals) can be quite expensive in FM even if one intends to purchase ores and refine them. Not to mention the 70+mil required to purchase gold teeth (if you don't wish to spend more time farming them yourself).

I'd like to thank Dave Devilduke for completing this guide for us all as well as providing me with the required firebomb flames and drake blood, as by that point I was getting really worn out by the length of this quest. I may not have been able to finish it without their help, thank you Dave!

I'd also like to say that I did give the jump quest a shot with all of the guides and video tutorials open on my browser, and after about 4 hours of attempts and walking back through lava, I gave up. I think adding a feature that upon hitting the lava, one would be teleported back to the beginning of the jump quest would be really beneficial to reinforce everyone's will when they go about the JQ, as it is rather demoralizing not only to fall off of a platform, but to also have to walk through lava to get back to the start - which can be costly on the HP potion side.

Overall, very happy that I'm able to complete Zakum now, and I appreciate the devs putting this quest in for those that really struggle with JQs - I had considered skipping the quest entirely and just focusing on other bosses, but as I intend on playing actively even into late game, I did not want to be permanently locked out of boss content, so opening up Zakum access was.. necessary.

This alternative quest definitely reads as a 'deterrent' of sorts, due to the length and amount of time required to farm the required etc items - I felt as if I was being pushed to go back to the jump quest many times. While I understand that the JQ can take a significant amount of time as well, I feel like this quest is much, much longer than it needs to be - and this is coming from someone who genuinely enjoys questing, sometimes even over participating in PQs for XP.

There are a few benefits to this quest such as EXP gain (I leveled from 90 to 92 due to farming etcs from mobs), the possibility of explorer title quest accomplishments (through exploring Ludi, KFT, Dungeon, etc), and the chance for acquiring godly clean gear from mobs (the ice drakes drop high level warrior overalls which can sell for 20m in FM on a good day). But I'd HIGHLY recommend doing this quest on a powerful mobbing character - as opposed to a Hermit as I did, as it can take a considerable amount of time to farm etcs when you're forced to kill mobs one at a time, as compared to a Bishop or I/L who can use one attack to wipe whole floors of mobs.

It's incredible you did it on a level 9x hermit. The quest is definitely not for newbies Even with 4 mages farming the etcs (especially shards, helmets, flames and hooves) and having the flaming feathers and crystals in advance, it took enough hours for me to spread it across 2+ days (and nothing can save you from Dragonfire Ring RNG).

I've done this 3 times and it was absolute suffering. I get it, they want to reward those people who put in the effort to learn the JQ and walk through all that shit each time they fall, but I do agree some parts could be toned down a little.

If you ever attempt it again, Snack Bar card helps a lot with the Ice Drake etc provided you can get it.

 

Just started this quest today because honestly, I hate jump quests, never have been good at them and they're just a test of patience. That said, I don't particularly enjoy the fact that the alternative to a very annoying test of patience is yet another very annoying test of patience perhaps minus the precision requirement. Doing this on my first char I miss the Blins like 40% of the time and it is thoroughly unenjoyable. I would imagine I'm very in the minority or else this questline wouldn't be so difficult. Very hard to do as an unfunded character though.

 

I would recommend coming back to this questline at a higher level, preferably one where you can 1hit the required mobs, if at all possible. My reasoning for this is because it will take a considerable amount of time (I'm talking 3-4 hours of constant button mashing and screen watching) to collect the required etcs from the mobs if you are unable to kill them quickly. Consider coming back to this quest around level 100-120 possibly? It should make it slightly more tolerable.

What is the best time and way to contact you for these items?

 

I just did this quest for the first time on my gunslinger I started it at around level 50 after I tried the jump quest and just found myself frustrated after a few hours. I found farming all the drops a fairly slow process with Blins and the Icy Drakes drops being very slow but it worked out as a good way to level my character from ~50 to 61 when completed. In terms of time taken I think it worked out as longer than the 15-20 hours having taken from Saturday or Sunday this week around 3-4 hours a day but not much more than the average.

In terms of it being slower than the jump quest for me it felt like the time was better spend as when I spent a few hours trying and failing the jump quest I made no progress on anything where as doing this I was leveling and getting some drops even it was mostly nothing great. I did end up getting some of the drops from Dave and I bought most of the crystals and some ores, if I were to do it again I think I would get all the drops before buying the ores as I found ended up with some leftovers.

Doing the quest started early today, now i'm farming for the dragonfire ring. I can't complain about the time it takes to get at my point, but it really depends whether how much you hate JQ. And i can say, i really am not into JQ.

I think doing this on a lower lvl char makes a huge difference and ofcourse the job. Im level 120 NL and flash jump is helps alot!

I farmed most items myself and Blins with a guild member for 30 minutes. Then approximately about an hour to farm myself 110 blins. I had nearly enough ores to craft crystals & rocks.

So for me it's still is alot better and very happy to have found this alternate way!

I did the alternative quest by myself, as a Hermit, took me a few hours to complete everything. I did not spend 1 meso buying the quests items, it was fun, but I would not repeat.

took me 3 days to finish it, gladly do this then Jumping, I not in a rush to get the helmet and zakum not running anywhere also..he still be there
