The current threshold is set to about 9.5k hp for range. End game bossing (VL/AUF) start at level 175 and you need 18k/19k HP just to have a chance. Sure there's Olaf but some of the bosses in Olaf also have HP requirements. Can't proceed to get more hp without getting more hp first. Lose out on damage/stats for hp? No ones going to do that. The people willing to grind Legendary Collector Medal aren't doing it for the 1k hp. If you're playing a character casually and just doing a daily shao + another boss (krex, ht), you can easily get to 175 in 2-3 months. The amount of time required to hp quest to 15.5k (-olaf, spring of youth), will take half a year assuming you do it everyday. By then you'd have already hit 200 and moved on to your next character. In my opinion, the threshold should be raised to where you can reach 15-16k hp within 2-3 months of grinding the quest and not half a year.
It's true, the server has made great strides to helping people get hp on their main questing/collecting char with olaf/reuel. But sadly to get to the final bosses it's still far more efficient to just make a bishop, farm, reroll and wash rather than trying to do reuel/legendary collector/etc. Reuel needs to give more per quest and with a higher cap to truly be worthwhile. Maybe 2.5k more to get thieves/archers/sairs in von leon / safe auf territory without legendary collector and such? [Looking at the numbers carefully I think reuel is actually pretty efficient (35hp/12min is worthwhile for sairs, for whom 35hp is worth at least 3 apr, 2 for the hp itself and 1 for the int or mp wash needed) especially when compared to the other methods, so raising the cap should be enough.] I think the issue is that any amount of washing that you do eats into the reuel cap first and you're still stuck with having to complete with incredibly inefficient methods unless you wash the whole way through.
This is a great guide for those making their first character. But for those making a second or third character, we don’t want to spent hours trying to R> PQ. From my own standpoint, I only get maybe 2-3 hrs of uninterrupted hours. In that timeframe I’d much rather RG & HT. What makes the reuel quest so good is being able to start and stop at any given time I can. (20 min between end of work and picking up my toddler, 30 min between classes, sitting through a boring meeting) Not everyone can dedicate an hour a day to hold right in dojo. Or recruit for unpopular pqs just to disband after a run or two.
Surely having access to the most lucrative content (i.e RG & HT) already opens up the option to hp wash/leech? Yes, people grind Legendary collector for the HP, it is the sole appeal since 3 wa already overlaps with the level 200 medal. No, people don't just "move on" after achieving level 200, unless one really hates the class of the character, or they scrap all their gear to fund a new one. Even if you semi wash your new character, olaf / spring / equips should push you over the threshold for end game content with ease. That's the beauty of choices in games, the option is there, it's your choice to spend that time on endgame content than to work on your new character without sufficient washing. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
The point of hp questing is so you don’t have to spend the lucrative money making on hp for new characters but rather on gear upgrades. The quest was introduced to fix the need to hp wash but yet you still have to wash if you want to be able to do end game content with your new character. The exp gain vs hp gain does not lineup. You’ll reach level 175 on a thief/archer much faster than you’ll reach 19k hp without any washing.
I'm sorry but you are greatly mistaken. The point of Reuel is an alternative way from hp washing for new players without access to huge amounts of wealth, especially their first character. Allowing new players to trade time to bypass the hp washing system, with no pre-established assets for apr nor access to higher mesos/hr content. While a seasoned player would trade their well earned mesos to bypass the amount of time needed to setup a new character.
I'm in agreement with upping the cap. The thing with the Reuel's is that it's (1) organic, (2) promotes interaction with low level content and encourages players to move around through the world, and (3) the time invested in doing Reuel quests is still way behind APR washing over time. I don't know if @Zancks has been reading through before but I had mentioned after reaching threshold, Reuel is changed to 7 quests a week or 30 quests a month from a daily. It seemed popular by the amount of likes which surprised me. Here are my suggestions: Increase cap by 2~3k If you have Lv200 character on same account, then your Reuel cap should be higher for new characters (i.e. using Blessing of Fairy); cap further increased for multiple 200s on same account Change threshold format from Daily to 7 quests per week or 30 quests per month Evaluate completion times / rewards of quests (though this is reliant on players reporting since it'd be hard for Staff to make the necessary documentation & recommendation) The APR washing meta is kind of in a weird spot because it's known by experienced players that you're somewhat reliant on vote abusers to get the APRs you can buy (or get the bulk of your APRs from).
I see my mistake. So if it's someone's second character now they're obligated to use all their mesos on hp washing rather than gear upgrade? There's really no point in making a thief/archer then unless you have billions to burn. The only way you'd make an unwashed one is to make one 6 months in advance. Get it to 120 to start hp questing everyday until it's at a playable amount before you actively play on it. Just for the record, I've already done all the washing for my characters so my feedback is just to help newer players progress more easily. I don't need to eat any more cake. I do like darko's suggestions. Although I don't know how the Blessing of Fairy works. All my characters are on separate accounts.
Hp washing is a luxury, not a requirement for almost all content. As a new player if you want to play an unwashed BM/MM, you will need to grind out the quests and equips to make such a thing possible. You will need to make sure there is a Dark Knight in the party for Hyper Body to meet hp requirements before you are ready to go without. Get Ergoth's Bane medal for 500hp, have 3 pets with equips all scrolled for HP for an additional 400hp (140hp per pet if all 7 60% land), Black Belt for 500hp, Mark of Naricain for 300hp, Olafs questline, Fountain of youth 500/1000hp questline and the list goes on for easily accessible hp. With just 12k hp, the only content you can't do without HB is Von Leon and Toad, I would say that's plenty of bossing for the casual player with real life commitments
No one should be grinding Legendary collector for the HP. It takes much less time to create farming characters from the ground up (e.g. bishop), get them to the appropriate level, and farm way more funds than it costs for 1000hp. Same issue with Olaf.
I disagree that Olaf has an issue. It only really gets difficult at part 7+ which is where you can't solo it anymore. Surprise, it's an MMO
The tasks are not the issue. The issue is the quests/collection, which already make it inefficient at part 2. I say this as someone who recently created multiple characters, got them all Olaf 1, some Olaf 2, and realized it takes much longer than it would to just get more money to wash more and ignore olaf. That said I think olaf was a wonderful addition since it's free and efficient in your main that you already quest/collect with. But it's just not relevant for the next chars.
I would like to point out that if you do all of your Shao, Crimsonwood Keep, Papulatus, EllinPQ, Temple of Time, Auf, Lionheart Castle and other pre-quests as a requirement for the bossing that OP would like to participate in the quest requirement for Olaf is null and void. As for monster cards, you collect those along the way and you only need 1 card from each mob to meet the requirement. Won't be taking the conversation off topic any further than that. HP quest is fine as is
Who are you to dictate what players should and shouldn't do to progress their character? The choice is open to the player, it is simply an option to gain more hp alternatively, regardless of its efficiency. The medal itself has the progression of amazing collector 250hp/mp 1wa > master collector 500hp/mp 2 wa > legendary coolector 1000hp/mp 3wa. It is simultaneously worked on while progressing your character through leveling and bossing. The compounding effects of a player's efforts at progressing their character builds satisfying, rewarding, and meaningful gameplay.
It really sucks how long it takes to grind HP quests to be able to get to start doing bosses like Auf and VL. I made my first character and turned lvl 200 quite fast, since I had no wealth or enough extra MP to really wash, I had to take the long route of doing the HP quest. Despite being strong enough to do Auf I had to wait a long time to finally start being able to do this boss while my friends who have been playing longer were able to access it as soon as they hit the lvl requirement since they just washed their characters. I've even been told to restart my character with int gear and base points in int even though I was high lvl because it would be faster than grinding for HP for months. What really makes it annoying is how the quest turns into a daily very early on so you have no choice but to wait months. Overall, I think it's very tedious for people creating their first characters and I can imagine it being even more difficult for people who wanted to main archers or pirates for their first class. It may even be a large reason why people choose not to create these classes because they know it will either be a lot of hp quest grinding or a lot of meso to wash compared to classes such as buccs and warriors
sigh* 31 for Ellin 13 for CWK 19 for ToT 22 for Maple Island assuming you spent some time there instead of rushing to Vic because bossing is important 13 Job quests 11 for LHC 4 Pap 15 to get to Auf And a couple other miscellaneous quests along the way. That is 128 free quests and I didn't include quite a few. If you are literally only playing to boss, sure you will only make it to Olaf's quest 6 before you have to play Maplestory
My bad I didn't realiize you put Ellin/ToT in there, definitely not worth doing. And I wasn't counting maple island, that's why it was ~50.
I personally WOULD suggest doing EllinPQ for the 150hp ring and 150hp earrings since we are on the topic of unwashed BM/MM's here
