While @Moeyuki was doing at a very cheap rate, the people doing book service are wagering mesos at a very favorable rate to make mesos. I think both WS and book service should be allowed, as its a nice option to have for certain players. What if someone started hosting pooled apples winner takes all Russian Roulette in the lounge? DickDann smega’d betting apples coin flip heads or tails, is that also not allowed? What if I wanna bet my friend 20 apples I clear Krex faster than him, isn’t that a form of gambling? Would like some concrete answers so the rest of the community knows and to prevent potential blatant loopholing.
I mean book service odds heavily favors the seller. If its because it’s disruptive to the community then I’d like it outlined. Henesys Gambling has increased the price of apples 2-3m already
I think there is a pretty clear difference between gambling for the sake of gambling, and guaranteed book/scrolling services. The former is an entirely player-invented game, that people participate in because they want to gamble. The latter serves an actual useful purpose and is actually related to the maplestory game mechanics - the buyers of the service are buying it avoid some risk. It's also a bit like how although insurance and casinos are both gambling, insurance is generally seen as a wise investment, whereas going to the casino is not.
Casual gambling as a fun game is okay. But a large-scale gamble is prohibited. The main reason for shutting it down is possible rwt involvement and meso laundering (yes this does exist). It is even worse when such activities are brought into other private platforms such as discord. On the other hand, if players truly love the concept of gambling, I am not against implementing official casinos via NPC or some other methods. I proposed it once and didn't move anywhere

Official casino would be dull. Players coming together to create a fun little event was the most fun I've had in weeks and it's sad to see it shut down like this. It's not about the gambling. It's about the quirks of player interaction.
I don’t think services qualify as gambling when they have an end result in sight. There are a lot of risk adverse players who may have had bad scrolling sessions that just want to limit their losses. Some of the items we see today are priced in a way that buying the clean base and assuming you use 70 ws/10% are about break even or little loss There is profit to be made in these services and it’s no secret it’s in their favor, but this comes at the risk of the service provider which can easily go on a bad streak. Since they don’t have unlimited mesos their risk of ruin is actually quite high I also think player to player gambling encourages shady behavior like complicating the process in order to get higher odds than advertised. As well as obvious outright scams which just add more workload for staff
I think if you are worried about the RWT problem, what you should solve is the RWT of abnormal accounts instead of simply blocking this emerging activity.
