Good evening ladies and gents! I'm coming back for a nostalgic trip and had a few questions. I'm planning on playing the game without leeching or hp washing. Just mostly focusing on the leveling portion of the game. What I want to know is what do you think, in your opinion, is probably a decent class given that criteria? Also, for anyone else that decided to not start off with a mage to sell leech, were you able to upgrade your gear with the mesos you farmed or how was your experience? I probably won't make it to endgame, hell, might not even make it to 4th job! I just want the therapeutic feeling of grinding mobs with my own skills and gear earned by the same character. So yeah... I guess that's it. Thank you!
I've played a few classes up to 4th job on Iron Mode. The most fun I've had was with Bandits and Bowmans. As a Bandit you get access to Haste for mobility and Savage Blow - seeing a bunch of numbers was cool. The downside to training is you only have this single target skill until 3rd job when you get access to a bunch of really fun skills. When I finally reached 4th job, I was already at 7k health from quests, this combined with Meso Guard means you don't really need to worry about washing. Bowmans do however have an AoE skill at 2nd job so what I found really fun about this grind was mobbing a bunch of monsters then blasting them away on the other side of the map. Strafe and Arrow Rain/Eruption is also such a nostalgic skill for me, it was very satisfying to use. I do encourage you to play for fun and not Leech/HP wash, there is charm to playing the game through all levels, not just buying leech until you can boss.
When I first started this game, I grinded a bunch of different characters to 3rd job but only found DK to be fun enough to where I actually managed to reach 4th job. Specifically grinding Himes and (pre-nerf) Ulu 2 w/Purple Surfboard and Polearm Fury (which is faster than using Spear Crusher for grinding in most instances). Forest of Golem is also pretty for good exp/meso during 2nd job. You also don't need to HP wash, but do be aware of the downsides later on if you're planning to continue to 4th job (need to Zerk to maintain DPS, higher pot costs, less bossing viability/utility than other classes such as Bucc and Shad). I/L mage is also quite fun for grinding during 2nd job but I found 3rd job to be quite boring (gets overshadowed by Chief Bandit meso explosion and FP mage misting). For meso making, grinding at Coolie Zombies is a good way to get both decent exp and mesos. Cleric/Priest would be pretty good at that, since you can spam heal (no need to use magic guard, so cheaper pot costs) and getting Mystic Door once you hit 3rd job means you can NPC items without having to walk/TP back. Ranger was also a nostalgic class for me and quite fun but I lost motivation for it once I found out that I could get 2-shot by Himes lol. Likewise for Hermit.
Thank you both for replying! @blackkuroe @EmersonHopscotch I have narrowed it down to shad/dk/pally. I think I might be overthinking a little too much. Just going to pick one and get started!
DK is great because 3rd job is probably the easier out of all of the classes. and its cheap which is always good
