Let me know if you find a way. I'll hit you up if I find out myself. Are you getting to the point where the black screen comes up and it says a firewall setting or server check is taking place?
I previously played this server up until about march, and to play on a Mac all you needed to do was download the mac client, nothing else. All you would need to do is click on the mapleroyals mushroom and it would play.
Hold down the 'Alt' key and open the MapleRoyals application, this should bring up a winskin window, Click 'Quit', and try launching the application again. If this does not work, try rebooting your computer http://royals.ms/forum/threads/troubleshooting-guide.20556/ If that doesn't help I would try re installing.
