    I think it would be an efficient way to know who the original owner of an item is, meaning that if you create something valuable enough, with the name tag you save time searching and thus find the owner if any problem about legitimacy arises, but it has to be dealt with more thoroughly.

    For a more serious answer though I think that this has been denied because of the bug where trading tagged items can remove the tag.

    Item Tags, including other stuff such as Item Locks, are on the Admins To-Fix list

    The whole point of tagging an item for me and I think/hope for 90% of the maplepop is because I DON'T ever want to trade it.
    I want to keep it forever.. with my name on it. :D Even if it lowers the value idc because again, I don't WANT to trade it. 0:)
