First of all, please don't feel bad! It's not just you! :PBLove:
CWK can be really frustrating (and in my opinion, very unfun) for MM. Your party should be more understanding :adminban:

I don't think puppet will work unless the boss is spawned first. You can't set it up ahead of time. Asking the NL to ninja storm is probably the best option for keeping your SI.

Otherwise if you stand far back to the left at the start you might be able to create enough distance before pirate can dispel you. But it's still a gamble.

If you get dispelled, you *can* still pin even without SI, it just takes *forever* :pepez:

The MM spot is different from BM. They have hamstring and faster attack speed which lets them use their spot safely. If you try to use it as MM, there's more risk the boss will wander and dispel you. We want the boss reliably in the very corner so that's where our puppet should be. The way Post shows in his video is still the best for MM, in my experience.

If puppet doesn't work, you just have to try again. Make sure you fully repin him into the corner before attempting again. If you let him wander at all that's when things can go really bad. You really can't hesitate, your movement to go repuppet, and then come back to repin, all needs to be swift and clean.

Unfortunately, it's normal that puppet won't always work. Sometimes it works first try. Sometimes it will take 3-4 tries. It's kinda random, and it's probably not anything you're doing wrong. I don't think anyone knows how to get puppet to work 100% accurately on this boss (if you do, please share the secret!!! :PBGasp:)

As @nany625 said above, BM have the luxury of Hamstring + Hurricane to constantly knockback and slow the pirate boss. That's why they don't have to place the puppet as far as MM do.

Puppet doesn't work before summoning the bosses, as something needs to be aggro'd to you first for puppet to actually take the aggro.

If the puppet fails and he starts throwing sharks, just rinse and repeat the process of trying to place puppet below until he eventually takes the bait.

Pirate boss has caused many blood pressure spikes when I was running CWK on MM. Unfortunately, he's just a bitch sometimes. If you have a couple of friends that you can CWK with, I'm sure they wouldn't mind you practicing/learning how to puppet; they'd definitely appreciate not having to deal with pirate boss lol

edit: ang's comment didn't show for me when i was typing this and she answered literally everything so yeah, sorry if this is redundant lol

Thank you, I saw the video but I believe I can't replicate it because MM and BM are so different. I was unaware of Hamstring playing such a large role in it and now that I think about it, makes much more sense. As for letting the NL attack the pirate boss I believe it would be less efficient because they don't have Puppet and are unable to make it stop attacking them so I still feel it should be left to a SE if possible, but that's just my opinion.

Thank you for your kind words!

I've mostly been doing CWK with my guild because I didn't want to terrorize the public and getting on the Community Blacklist but so far the NL in my guild has told me to stop trolling and slowing down his CWK runs followed a Bucc in my guild who has been intentionally hitting the Pirate boss everytime he comes by for SE/SI to take the aggro off the Puppet.

I see, I was hoping it would be possible to Puppet ahead of time to get a better position on the boss but it seems unlikely, I'll try to ask for help at the beginning from the NL since they might be able to pin it better than me and it's not like they will need SI anyway ..

I did have that feeling after numerous tests, but I still wasn't really sure if the position of the Puppet had to be very precise.

Thank you very much for your insight, additionally I have one more thing that I'd like your opinion on, in regards to rebuffing I've noticed that if you buff with or without SI it can cause the Pirate boss to wander slightly, so is it best to wait for him to use his Dispel first before you rebuff, as sometimes the people on the bottom lane would come by for SE but I don't know if I should let them just sit there and wait for the Pirate boss to Dispel again before I'm able to SE them, what do you think?

    I see, that's very unfortunate.

Additionally, I've found more success in waiting for the Puppet to first expire before placing another one until it gets targeted, so in the case that he doesn't first lock onto it, is that the case where you just have to keep trying until he does?

As mentioned in the post above, I did have a couple friends to run CWK with because I didn't want to terrorize the public but alas the NL told me to stop trolling and slowing down his CWK runs while the Bucc in my guild kept trolling me on purpose by hitting the Pirate boss everytime he came by to get SE so I think it's time to just get new friends.

Ooo yes, always let the puppet expire! I don't know the *exact* mechanics of how it works, but it seems like if you re-puppet while it's drawing aggro, whatever mobs were attracted to puppet reset to neutral, then re-aggro to whatever next triggers them. If he doesn't aggro to the puppet, I usually go back up and re-pin to re-establish aggro on myself before trying to puppet again. Otherwise, he'll just be aggro'd to whoever is on mage and he won't give a shit about the puppet. Whoever that NL is can get bent, he is not and will never be the main character. Also, if you have to, let your party members know to not attack the pirate or place mules on the top right platforms if they're unfamiliar with how puppeting works.

Okay, thank you very much for clarifying the bit about letting the Puppet expire, I wasn't entirely sure if I was doing it correctly but I just had that feeling because of your video in the main post, but it makes a lot more sense now.

While I can't do anything about the NL, the Bucc was very much doing it on purpose and I told him about 3 or 4 times to stop hitting the Pirate boss but he kept doing it so I've decided to just not run CWK with him any longer.

Additionally, I'd like your insight on rebuffing while pinning the Pirate boss, with or without SI it seems he wanders slightly off and sometimes when I spend too much time rebuffing he will just immediately DP me, sometimes when people from the bottom lane come by to get SE, I will stop what I"m doing and SE them immediately to not waste their time but then suddenly I get DP'd in the process, is it then better to wait for the Pirate boss to use his Dispel first before you start rebuffing?

Honestly, I don't have a consistent pattern for when I rebuff. Sometimes I fire off a strafe to sneak a buff in while he's being knocked back, sometimes I just wait for him to start walking away before re-doing all my buffs; it kind of just depends on what you feel works best for you. I personally wouldn't make my party members wait for SE, I'll just use it whenever they come by.

If the puppet is working on him, he should just be walking back and forth over top of your puppet if you stop attacking him. There's only a certain amount of distance at most that he will roam left. When you need to rebuff, you can just walk to the left a bit yourself to be completely out of his max range, use all your buffs, and then move back to continue attacking. It's best to refresh your buffs before your puppet dies if you can, so you're not stuck needing to rebuff and repin at same time.
Having someone intentionally disrupt your puppet is so toxic. I'm mad for you :pepemad:

One of the few MM mains in this server who had cried to Ang about CWK pirate before!

Unfortunately we're the misunderstood class I gave up puppeting entirely and praying my strafe crits at least once
I was so petty about being backseated I decided to gear my MM until his normal uncrits are 14-15k which in theory should kb the boss

Really glad to hear that I'm not the only one who faced difficulties with the Pirate boss, was initially told by my guildmates to just "gitgud" furthermore I don't know anyone else who plays SE so there wasn't anyone that could give me proper advice on how to do it properly and it got to a very frustrating point.

In theory with Appo, I am able to hit 15k on the non-crits as well but for some reason whenever the Pirate is locked onto the NL on the other side he just ignores my hits and doesn't get any knockback at all, I'm unsure what causes this though.

Yeah so this just happens. I don't know if it has to do with him being a boss and maybe getting affected by KB differently but he just says "no" sometimes. Just keep hitting him until you KB regularly, that usually means you've re-established aggro.

I never run with people who even *once* told me to "gitgud" when im trying my best. Its undermining the person with arguably the hardest role in CWK, job room and boss. My threshold for those are VERY low. But my new years resolution is also to be more petty so :

    1. I will not bring mules if i'm SE. if you want me to do that I demand 2 apples for SE room (once per run)
    2. I (hopefully) expect to get the reward i'm going for (bon/mon - usually when someone ask if i can SE I will always ask if bon avail, i dont run if not)
    3. (Most important) Dont backseat my pirate lol

So now I only run cwk with friends who understand the struggle and that im doing my best, and life has been so much better

tldr : stand up for yourself!! Figure out whos the wanted and who's just part of the se-deprived harem >:D
