Im looking for an honest opinion. I started like 2 months ago, came back for the nostalgia xD Just took a class which I thought was fun and actually so far is really fun. Currently at lvl 133 But can I seriously not join any boss content? I do understand that my single target DPS is definitely not the best ingame. So what is there for I/L mage 130-200? Only grinding and selling leech? And to sell leech I already need an HS mule i guess..
you are correct Either APQ, Selling leech (which needs hs mule), or mage farming (which you'll need another mage, or 3 )
I come to this thread as a Bishop Main..... Other players have decided that I/L Is useless and the problem is that mages are so great at attacking so many mobs at once that their 1 hit attack isn't useful in bosses at all compared to any non-mage class. That doesn't mean you can't boss, it just means you won't have parties that want you. Without HS/Ress you'll be less desired over a bishop which has some utility. It doesn't mean there's nothing to do, but it means that you won't be able to simply respond to a smega and join a party for bosses. (Zak, Krex, Scarga, etc. Even bosses players typically solo are strong against Ice (Chao & Ephenia) So you're fighting a disadvantage there as well. Technically after 135 you get access to LHC and your ultimate can be sought by parties (Though without HS...), and you can do Rose Garden with that char once it hits 170. But that's about it. You can do PQs and events. EPQ can be fun and rewarding. But generally Mages tend to be money makers, Chain Lightning just isn't on par with attackers, and you have no buffs to offer a party like a Bishop. There occasionally have been meme runs, Archmage only VL runs for example, but they are far and few between. For more context One of my IL mages (lvl 15x) is a farming muleThe other I think will be an APQ mule (lvl 12x)
As someone who "sorta mains" I/L. I'll be super honest with you there isn't much for you to do after u max Blizzard. You can also try to max Chain Lightning and try to kill Papulatus (lightning weak so good damage) and Chao (lightning resist though) but that's about it for bossing content. You also kinda dont have any other form of content like LHC because the map that is ice weak isn't very populated. You also cant Dojo because you're a non bishop mage so you're kinda useless since u have no damage or any utility. Can't speak on RG cause I'm not high enough level for that but from what I've seen/heard I/L is pretty good there You can also just use it to leech an attacker too and ignore all of the above cause at least your books except MW20 are super cheap and good gear is also not as expensive as attacker classes. If you're dead set on playing the class and you're having fun tho I'd play it still and wait for the balance patch that's coming out soon as there might be a CL/Para/AR buff as well as some other utility buffs for mage hopefully I will also add though that most op thing on this server is your buddies list so if you make some good friends on here I'm sure they would be willing to take you to stuff like Zakum (where you actually aren't that awful as an attacker?) once in a while (Or just reroll to bishop )
Can't really LHC because no one runs deers, just bears (fire weak) and golems (holy weak) RG... IL might be the best class for it? But it's 1/day and will take like 30 minutes. Not sure how FP/IL/BS/DK compare for it as I only have bs but math indicates IL > BS at least
I/L has been a great investment for me. I use mine solely for daily RGs alongside my Bucc and DrK, and the I/L is by far my new favorite. The only real hurdle is 150–170, since LHC parties usually prioritize Bishops or F/Ps, but the end result is worth the effort for me.
I got a 189 IL. Pros: It beats my other chars at RG. Boss finished by 22min, bon 10-15mins. Chain lightning is straight gangsta. You can clear temple of time mobs easily and farm scrolls. You can pap (takes about 7mins) with 55k chain lightning damage on it. You can chao (takes 5mins) Blizzard is cheap compared to gen. You can farm crimson hearts. Self-levelling at 120 with blizzard is great. Cons: Not suitable for joining boss runs. Can't ephenia.
Thank you all for the information and enlightenment. This line quite says it all .. Thats a pity. I cant find anything related to a balance patch coming soon. Would be nice though if IL mages could get a better decent single dps skill or like a party buff.
