One of my favourite thing to do when I used to play Maple Story around seven years ago was boss hunting. Now back in the days when we talked about bosses, it was mainly about the mushmom and the Jr. Balrog. I remember doing some strategies with friends, spreading into multiple channels and patiently waiting for the mushmom to spawn and then timing it upon it's death, hoping for the precious ilbis drop or a decent scroll. And sometimes while we were waiting, a high level (60+) would step in and start waiting as well, and it was a disaster because surely this pro would outdamage us and secure the drops ! I remember spending an entire afternoon sitting in the Altar, deep into Sleepywood Dungeon, waiting with my friends as we were expecting the renowned Jr. Balrog. And boy when it finally spawned It was like Christmas all over again, the excitement was real and we were all hoping for an Evil Wings, source of respect and power back then. And it was fun ! Now of course, times have changed, and people who are looking to make profit of bosses will look to hunt Bigfoot, Zakum, Krexel or Horntail and It's understandable, all those smallers bosses will never get the same attention as it used to be as there are far better alternatives. But sometimes, when I get bored of grinding, I travel to Henesys, step in Someone else's House to meet my goold old friend and remember those forgotten days. Unfortunately I get greeted by some worthless nx coupons that barely make up for the time I've spent to reach the map, and honestly It's sad. It would be great to have something worthwhile drop from those kind of bosses, something extremely rare and extremely exciting that would make this kind of boss hunting fun and relevant, a different way to earn mesos, like it used to be. Thoughts ?
I really like this idea, i used to kill zombie mushmoms on my mage i/l and the 500k scrolls i got were like gold to me at that time
A couple of worthless nx coupons in the beginning is tons of worth nx coupons in the end. Do not count them out. I go for a nx hunt if there's been a server check, always checking mini-bosses (e.g Z. Mushmom, Griffey, Manon.) if there are any alive. However, I wouldn't mind if some bosses such as Mushmom got a higher droprate on scrolls, uses or equips. Afterall, we are rolling the dice for Ilbis!
Almost all bosses had their spawn time upped because it would be exploitable if you were able to farm them over and over again. However with the server becoming more popular every day, I think the spawn times should be reduced and the drop rates of NX should be decreased, so it doesn't become NX farmville. Maybe add some rare cool drops in there, that are actually useful, so people are motivated to hunt for a boss knowing it has a chance to drop something good. (For example, Mushmom's used to drop ilby at a small rate, which was really cool and motivated people to kill the boss.)
The current nx to mesos rate seems to be 3M for 1k nx. It will take you around 1-2 minutes to reach the mushmom map, which will provide you with 100 nx, maybe 350 if you're lucky. So that average to 500k mesos for a 2-3 minutes run, which is a really low rate. Someone selling leech would earn at least 1M a minute and a tons of exp at the same time. Also it' so boring if you know what kind of drops you're going to get already, it takes all the excitement away ! As an example we could add a 1% chance to drop a jackpot ticket of 10k nx - now that would be fun !
I don't think you get the point of this suggestion. The idea is to make bossing fun and exciting by giving the possibility of a decent reward. The exact of this would be of course decided by the admins, as they are the most knowledgeable about the economy of the server. It could be a rare chair, a special NX item, or something untradable... I don't really care. I just want something to look after and hope for !
It would be fun with some special stuff but if you put in NX then high leveled ppl will come and kill every boss in 10 sec and they would also kill it everytime it comes up, sucks for low levels like me
they were never really relevant in the live server. maybe waaaaaay back like in the first years, but only a few would even bother going. killing them is mostly for the nostalgic feel for this matter, not for the drops.
??? That is the purpose of a nostalgic server, reliving the first years of Maple Story. Mushmon was very relevant these days, I'd wait hours in Someone's Else House and wait for MM to spawn.
Ugh I mean the spawn was 1hr as far as I remember, but it was hard to find one anyway, so you'd have to just wait... 20 mins here, 40mins there...
before New Leaf City was added, Mushmom was one of the more well known spots for getting ilbis, which were worth alot more than they are here.
Finding ilbis would be the equivalent of winning the lottery. They were worth around 40-50M back then, which would be the equivalent of ~2b in Mapleroyals' economy. In every of the 20 channels of gMS you'd see people patiently waiting for the mushmom to spawn, trying their luck.
