I was curious, is it okay to make a private updater for the game? Currently it just scrapes Dave's forum post and the front page of the website to see if there is a new version and gives the links to download the update. It doesn't ping against the game server or anything. It also allows for launching through the updater as well. It just makes it a bit more convenient to get the proper download links to update the game and tells the user their current version. Just want to make sure this is allowed, don't want to get banned over a silly project. It also looks at the users install and lets the user know if there are missing files (I had the most recent version of the game while making the project this morning, that's why I just removed the files to get it to appear to be a lower version to the updater). I have no intentions of distributing the updater, I just wanted a slightly faster way to grab the updates for myself. I messaged Dave directly on discord and was asked to post here. Images below;
Hi, Staff have reviewed your situation and had a brief discussion regarding it. You may create a private updater for your own personal usage. However, please do not distribute, share, or advertise it to other players, as it may create support and security concerns should issues arise in the future (for example, someone claiming their account was compromised after using the updater). We hope you understand our position on this matter. We also appreciate you reaching out to us for confirmation beforehand. Please feel free to let us know if you have any other inquiries.
