I'll try to keep this short. TL; DR The bug: Newties not aggroing while another party member is grinding toplane The problem: This is bannable Full whine: Bowmen usually grind on the middle platform. We have the choice of being safe and hitting one newtie, or using hawk and stunning the first newtie and hitting the second as well. If we time Hawk right, the first newtie would only hit us every two minutes or so. Obviously the second option is far more worthwhile in exp. This is a great map, so naturally there are quite a few people there most of the time. What if I want to party? Well then I'm out of luck, as soon as the party member starts grinding top lane, the middle lane newties stop aggroing me. This happens WITHOUT the party member hitting 'my' newties at all. So I have the choice: stand on the safespot, get considerably less exp but not get banned. Or stand where we normally stand with hawk, get better exp, but risk being banned. And all because I'm not getting that one hit every two minutes. THAT WOULDN'T EVEN IMPACT ME AT ALL ANYWAY. DO'H. So while the previous stance on the afking party member is somewhat defendable, this is just beyond any comprehension. The party member is actively grinding top lane, not afking. I am actively using hawk, not afking. But no, because newties or the map or whatever is poorly coded, we risk getting banned for (imho) inane stuff like this. my 2ct.
Basically what Proxy said all the way. Newtie is a great map, as it stands the only way you can have a two person party is if one safe spots. BUT THE NON SAFE SPOT IS SO MUCH BETTER AND HAWK STUNS IT LIKE 90% OF THE TIME. So I don't see why it matters anyway. In my opinion, Party newtying should be allowed.
When the problem first arose, I asked Christine very specifically to convey the message that we need to know exactly what is bannable and what is not. Still waiting, staff members. I am afraid to train at Newties because of unclarity on the rules. (and I've all but outgrown newties, but that's neither here nor there).
At the request of a GM, I did some tests of how many Newts I can kill in two minutes fully buffed with my normal training xbow (range: 2784 ~ 3804), and with a severely weak one (range: 976 ~ 1337). The normal xbow is to simulate training at Newties as a 4th job character, while the weak xbow is to simulate training as a mid-level character. Below are my results. The results are displayed as: Range1 Location1: kills on trial 1, kills on trial 2, kills on trial 3 Location2: kills on trial 1, kills on trial 2, kills on trial 3 4th Job Mode (range: 2784 ~ 3804): Sniping only one Newt from the safe spot: 35, 33, 34. Sniping two Newts from a "glitch spot": 44, 46, 47. 3rd Job Mode (range: 976 ~ 1337): Sniping only one Newt from the safe spot: 8, 8, 8. Sniping two Newts from a "glitch spot": 9, 9, 8. Notes: Spoiler The number of kills recorded are over a two minute interval. I cannot avoid having level 20 Marksman Boost in the 3rd Job Mode, however since it stabilizes the damage, it actually helps determine an average kill number rather than detriment it. The glitch spots were simulated using the 4th job Marksman skill "Frostprey" to freeze the front Newt so I would not be hit. The freeze from Frostprey is NOT 100% effective in stopping the Newtie from hitting me, and thus using the glitch, numbers may be SLIGHTLY higher than the recorded values. The statistical difference is likely to be negligent; short of exploiting the glitch, I can't say how negligent. No Sharp Eyes were used during the 3rd job test, but maxed Sharp Eyes at 30 were used during the 4th job test. On average, the 4th Job Mode kills a Newt in three hits. The 3rd Job Mode kills in 19 hits. In conclusion, the results are obvious. Over the course of two minutes, a 3rd job player might manage to pick up, on average, one extra kill per two minutes from abusing this "glitch", which translates to 12.5% faster training at best. 4th job players, meanwhile, who are strong enough to kill the Newties quickly, see a much higher increase in kills per minute, and average approximately a 33% increase in training times. My personal opinions on the results: Spoiler The extra kill per two minutes for a low leveled character is not significant enough to warrant this being bannable material. One kill extra every two minutes at an abitrary level, let's use 86 going to 87, results in 0.3% more per two minutes, or 0.15%/min increase on top of a normal training speed of approximately 1.25%/min. This increase in exp would cause the level to be approximately 9 minutes faster than normal. The extra kills per minute on higher level characters appears to be more prominent. Using my own level as a guide, the level 139 going to 140, my normal training speed at Newts sniping only one from the safe spot would be 0.3%/minute, while the extra Newt from the "glitch spot" would raise that to 0.4%/minute. This cuts my personal training time down from 317 minutes to 234 minutes, a difference of an hour and 22 minutes. While this is obviously a significant amount, I'd like to point out that training in MapleStory gets harder exponentially as a character levels; this helps to mitigate the increases and makes Newties almost a reasonable training option at my level in comparison to fighting Anego, Bigfoot and even Headless Horseman for exp. My overall opinion? This is not worth being bannable. When one factors in the arguments of how to properly police this, it simply isn't worth it, all things considered. Make of this information what you will; as I stated initially, I did this test to show you all exactly how much of an advantage the glitch actually gives. You all are free to come to your own conclusions of if it's significant or not. Thank you for your time in reading all of that. Cookie if you actually made it through.
Having read all this, the one thing that's coming to mind is that unglapungla (sorry if I got your name wrong) might genuinely have been wrongly banned. If this is found to be the case, would he get some small compensation (as he's served his whole ban)?
