You can't change button positions without editing the client, if I remember correctly. And I don't think anyone has ever managed to do that But if you're meaning like... inserting a different sized image for the button or whatever. I mean, that's on them. I think a rule like this would solve the reporting problem: "If the problem is persistent when you have the original UI.wz, you can make a report." But still though, I could see if you don't want people doing it. And also, at the same time, people who wants to hack through .wz editing are gonna do it. I don't think disallowing people to UI.wz edit, will make the minority that is the hackers, well... less prone to hacking. You can still keep the rule of not changing other .wz files. It's not like the community is demanding you to change a rule. I think it should be on the community to say whether their UI.wz's are up-to-date or not. Now this point I can really see. Having a different UI will probably make people hesitant to play on the server. UI.wz edits usually make servers feel very private server-y -- something Royals obviously isn't trying to emulate. ~~
I think he means that, you could for example insert an empty image as a button, and then it wouldnt work anymore. I was going to make the same suggestion with the rule you mentioned above, also I dont think that anyone who has the ability to edit their UI would be stupid enough to make that kind of report. Overall I feel like if this was allowed, having a show off thread would be good, but not make it a thread which invites others to just download edited UIs. So keep it a thing where only people who know what they are doing will want to do it. For example, you could only share the edited images and not the whole file. That way people could share their edits, but others wo want to use them would also have to be capable of replacing the images themselves.
I might have an input for something like this. I't would most likely take bunch of time. I'm not either completely inside the database progamming yet. But could the server have two acceptable folder files? If there is two different kind of setup files, 1 with basic effects, ui and so on, and another setup with the edited version (Note that skills and effects still have same dmg and rate as on the basic setup (only for the eye candy)). This will ofc still require no free editing for people, but it will give some eye candy for people who wants it. I have been playing around quite a while with effects on skills and such (ofc i haven't been doing it on this server since it is against the terms and conditions). I would too like to help out on this of my own free time, if it gets taken on consideration, I can make an edited file, for an brief test of effects such as newer versions of blizzard, brandish, and other frequently used spells, for you to see.
You can create SHA256 file hashes to check for changes. Since antivirus programs use hashes to identify software, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say a single change in the file would output a unique hash.
I wish we were allowed to change damage skins and the way skills look it's not like that affects damage.
