Once I've seen reviews about Windows 10's performance and usage ability, I'll probably go ahead and install it, try to see its compatibility with MapleRoyals' client. Hopefully there won't be any struggles, might even put up a guide how to install MapleRoyals on Windows 10 but that's until then!
As with all new versions of Windows it's a good idea to wait out the storm for a month or two (I personally am planning on a new laptop purchase in September or October) while reviews and essential updates come out. I can say with a reasonable amount of confidence that it'll be loads better than Windows 8 though.
Maybe if windows 10 has advantages over windows 7, I might (eventually, in a few years) make the switch. 7->8/8.1 is a waste of time (native usb 3.0 support, some weird boot caching and miniscule improvements to multimonitor support isn't much of an improved feature set microsoft!) even ignoring the butchered ui. Inb4 people with no idea what they're talking about say "but it's faster!".
The whole concept they made for Windows 8/8.1 doesn't really fit in. Although 8.1 was a huge improvement from its ancestor 8, it still hasn't changed with the idea of using "apps" as its one of the major functions. I didn't feel any huge difference in performance either, as they wanted us to notice. The UI is what made me cry, honestly. It's bizzare. Only one way to trust Microsoft; upgrade your OS every second one they release!
Windows 1.0x- good Windows 2.0x-bad. Windows 3.0- good. Windows 95- bad. Windows 98- good. Windows 2000/ME- bad. Windows XP-good. Windows Vista-bad. Windows 7-good. Windows 8/8.1-bad. Windows 10-well....
I've used the technical previews and they have the same issues as Windows 8/8.1 regards of compatibility. For v0.62 that would be parameter is incorrect if you didn't run as Windows 98/me compatibility and for v0.83 that would be that error at anytime regardless of compatibility mode, thus you need take like 3 times average to load the game.
You can always try to run royals in a windows xp virtual machine I suppose, if windows 10 doesn't run it well.
From my experience, royals runs a lot smoother on Windows 10 than 8.1. I've actually stopped using 8.1 to play royals and I've been using the technical preview for royals for a while now.
Can confirm, running Windows 10 (build 10240). No hiccups running MapleRoyals with the same compatibility settings I had with Windows 8.1 prior to upgrading (Windows XP SP2). Played for about 30 minutes without d/c or CTD (though I had an error code pop up on my first attempt at running it, worked fine on my second attempt). Will update once I'm done writing this stupid paper. Update: Grinded mobs for 2 hours, didn't d/c or CTD during that time. Seems to be at least as stable as it was on Windows 8.1. Will update if anything comes up.
I took note of my testing of Windows 10 last night so I figured I would just copy and paste them here. I didn't have a lot of time to work on this but it's better than nothing. IMPORTANT: Do not perform a clean installation from ISO file if you have a Windows 7 or 8 product key since you won't be able to activate Windows 10 with it. Maple Royals run fine for me (no compability mode and it runs just like Windows 7). Maple Royals in full screen has "black bars" and I did not look for solution yet. Sandboxie isn't working yet. Windows update error code : 80240020 I upgraded my bios version and drivers to fix this issue that I kept getting (They sold me a laptop with biso v.1.09 when latest version is v.1.27 ). Spoiler: Solution 1 Make sure you installed the latest Windows 7 or 8 updates. Delete every file in "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" Open Windows update Run cmd as admin type >wuauclt.exe /updatenow If you still have the error (like myself), you can try to reinstall your Windows 8 as you can't clean install Windows 10 if you don't have a Windows 10 product key
There is so much information in this picture and also a lot to say about it. I don't feel like going over everything but in the end you must use your judgement here. I always feel like those making these pictures are the same that made all those conspiracy theory. If people don't want any bit of information to go out then they might aswell stay out of internet.
