So ever since I've started MapleRoyals, I've seen people getting banned for Account Sharing. As far as my knowledge goes, it means you are using another person's account with/without their permission. The "without permission" aspect I can understand because you can basically hack and steal items etc. The "with permission" on another note, I've been interested about. I understand people can backstab each other and break trusts, but what is to happen if the two people sharing accounts are family members, perhaps brothers? In that case, what is wrong with two siblings/close friends? As far as I've known, the people who have been account sharing have shared accounts with close friends. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to get this rule to be abolished. I'm just genuinely curious why sharing an account with a real life sibling or acquaintance is a bannable offense. Please enlighten my noob MapleRoyals brain :3

    1. Player that share account gain competitive advantage over player that did not share account
    2. I believe staff don't want to deal with player drama over account sharing

I think the account sharing rule is completely fair, and should be bannable. A 30 day ban seems a little harsh but that's whatever. The only thing that bugs me about account sharing incidents is how the GMs react to it, mainly in the report abuse and ban appeal sections. Sometimes people report someone for let's say scamming or botting, but they admit to account sharing in their report(completely hypothetical). The GMs tend to completely ignore the report for a while and put all of their focus on the account sharing. That's the only thing that I personally don't agree with when it comes to account sharing and how it's handled:p

This is what bugs me most about account sharing, people sharing bishops to leech themselves. Entire guilds have been banned for this and it's unacceptable and should (and does) result in a permanent ban no questions asked.

My fiancée has a bishop and I didn't, I could have easily played hers but instead I created my own bishop to leech myself. Better yet, I'm personal friends with @Rob and if account sharing was allowed what would prevent me from leeching myself on his level 200 bishop and give me an extreme advantage over the average player

A lot of the times people will use account sharing as a defense to wrong doing. I don't recall an instance where the person reporting someone else was banned for account sharing and then the report wasn't looked into further, could be wrong though.

When it comes down to it people should just read the dang rules of the server. A lot of people think that admitting other people were on their account will relieve wrong doing, even though it just gets them in more trouble. That shouldn't be the GMs problem though. Perhaps the GMs are harsh, but if people will just read rules they won't get banned...

The only close comparison I can make regarding account sharing is sharing Steam accounts. All of my friends (including me) have multiple CSGO accounts and we often times lend these accounts to one another to smurf. We do this because we sometimes need an account whose rank is similar to the rest (CSGO won't let you queue up for matchmaking if the group disparity is too high.) Naturally by smurfing, we'd boost the account we're playing on as it's usually an account whose rank is much, much lower than our actual skill level. This doesn't just happen among my group of friends but most of the CSGO community as well. Do we care if others lend their accounts to friends to get boosted? Nope, not one bit. Who cares if they're getting boosted, we only worry about our own game.

Now obviously this game is vastly different than CSGO, this is an mmorpg and the whole point of an mmorpg is to dedicate time into your character to make it better and account sharing effectively destroys the integrity of that. But why should we bring ourselves to care whether someone is sharing their account with a friend or a family member? Why should that raise any concerns to you? So what you worked hard to get to level 120 and someone else didn't, how does that affect you in any shape or form? The only reasons I can think of is jealousy and/or envy. "Man, it took me a whole year to reach 150 but this new guy who hasn't even played for a month has already passed me." Sure, it's unfair to those who aren't able to share their accounts but then again that's their problem.

I personally don't give 2 shits about people sharing accounts but that being said, I don't support it either. I like the feeling of self accomplishment when I level my character or earn enough mesos to buy a luxurious item and would never let others do it for me.

If they really did allow account sharing then almost every single person on the top 100 ranking would have gotten there illegitimately. The first people to hit level 200 would have been groups of 3 or more people grinding on the same account for 24/7. Perhaps you don't care that the rankings would be filled with cheaters, but certainly other people who put in hard work to top the rankings would care. It's really not jealousy, the first wave of people to hit level 200 worked hard to get there and their accomplishments are shown on the rankings.

Also, I really don't understand your comparisons to CS:GO at all. They are completely different games

I dont think it deserves a perma ban or 30 day ban mainly bcus thousands of ppl account shared on gms and it wasnt too bad. Guildies are suppose to help eachother out thats why its a GUILD. Make friends, be trusted and account sharing isnt too competetive.

I'm pretty sure account sharing was officially against the rules in GMS, it just wasn't strictly enforced since the GMs there didn't do shit. Also, what if you lend your account to a guildie and your account gets hacked? What if I befriended you, got on your account, and then stole every single piece of valuable equipment you have? Do you run to a GM for help? That just creates unnecessary drama and work for the GMs. Also, how isn't account sharing competitive? An entire guild can be boosted by sharing a single bishop

You're right, I'm sure majority of the top 100 would be illegitimately if account sharing was allowed. Yeah it'd suck knowing that illegitimate people stole the top 100 spots but at the end of the day this is nothing more than a minor dilemma. Rather than focusing attention on satisfying people's pretty little displays, we should worry about real issues. I should have said people take a lot of pride in themselves and love to brag about it because that's more fitting of a statement.

Also I wasn't comparing the similarities between the 2 genres of the games but the idea of account sharing and my personal experience (CSGO being the only game I've shared accounts with.) I'm positive there's a ton of account sharing going on in Royals right now behind our back, we just don't know about it and probably never will.

If your account gets hacked by a guildie, the sole person responsible for that is you and you alone. By giving your account info to someone else, you're accepting the consequences of it. It shouldn't create any unnecessary drama because the GMs should have no rights to intervene with personal trust issues being broken.

it's a strong point that you say the responsible party should just be you, but the problem is, other people don't know this fact and then assume gm's are going to intervene.

Why should we care if someone is using PEDs to boost their performance? Why should we care if Tom Brady deflated footballs? Why should we care if Qatar bribed FIFA officials to get the World Cup? Who cares if people use an unfair advantage for personal gain right?

How many level 200s do you see bragging? I don't get on much but I don't see anyone bragging about spending more hours they can't get back endlessly grinding on an ultimately inconsequential online game. It's not like people really check the rankings or care. Other than it being a personal milestone there's really no reason to get to 200. Sure, it might inflate some peoples heads, but no one cares. Even if you tried to brag about it hardly anyone would listen, which would deflate that ego a bit.

All of those examples you mentioned above has a direct negative effect on the opposing parties whereas account sharing, not so much. Again to reiterate, I'm not a fan of account sharing but I don't see why people would be so opposed to it. This game is not even competitive, it's a pure PvE mmorpg, you're only playing to surpass yourself.

I disagree 100%. If every character on this game was exactly the same, I wouldn't bother playing. It's always a fight to be stronger than the next guy. A fight for the white. While it may not competitive to you, it's quite competitive to those who put in the effort for it to be.

I think at the end of the day all this comes down to is Leech. Leech is a significant and the fastest way to train from level 75-120 hands down. It costs a lot, and hell, if Matt was concerned it's a huge meso sink due to the taxes. You can either train your heart out and get less exp than dropping 40m and laying back for an hour and let someone do all the work for you, which is more efficient than training in a party per say. How does this relate to account sharing? Well, the only reason FOR account sharing would be self leech due to not having a mage or bishop or w/e, hs, and maybe HB if you really needed it. This game cannot and will not be competitive if you have to fight against other people and rely on others to do it for you. Simple as that. You can rarely win a competitive LoL match, or a Melee doubles match if you let your partners do all the work. This game is rewarding for spending time, yes. There's no point in competing for a spot on the rankings when you cant even get a spot on the rankings anymore. You're limited to how many BFs spawn a day, Zaks, HTs, Krexs, HH, the list goes on. You can only get a certain number of exp a day, and lets face it, this game is limiting at later levels on how much exp you can really get in a day. So even if you're competing with someone who's, say level 150 and has been playing for a while but takes advantage on boss runs, you're going to be struggling to even catch up to it. So who even cares if you share a bishop to leech. After level 120, when the real "competition" arises, it's pointless to do it anyways. At later levels, no one is going to want to pay, 75m for 25m exp/h when at level 140, its merely a quarter of a percent and it's just pointless to do it. If you did leech yourself to 120, you can even say you have pride in it because that takes time, it takes hours. You have to play the game in order to do it. It's either you do it yourself, or you merely pay someone else to do it. Hell, if you're account sharing with family or friends that you know personally IRL you can even bribe them with real life money, which is also against the TaC, but how will the GMs ever know?

You're right that a lot of people including yourself and many others do find this game competitive. But that doesn't explain why they're opposed to account sharing. Does the fact that someone used a friend's bishop to leech his character to 120 compared to you, who may have spent months getting to 120 truly bother you? Does it bother you that Brad over there used his friend's bishop to farm up enough mesos to buy a 16atk pgc? Again, the only reasoning I can see behind this is jealousy or pride. Is it unfair to those who can't share accounts? Absolutely, but that's just how life works. People with good connections (in this case, reliable people to share accounts with) will naturally excel in whatever it is they're doing and limiting that is silly in its own right.

The real reason why account sharing isn't allowed in most games is because companies lose revenue from it. If 3 friends share the same CSGO account and take turns playing on it, then Valve is losing 2 shares of however much CSGO is worth. This gets even worse when you look at monthly-subscription based games such as World of Warcraft or EVE online. 2 friends sharing a World of Warcraft account for a year would result in a loss of $180, multiple that by an insane amount of playerbase and that's a lot of money being lost. The rule has nothing to do with gaining a competitive advantage over others, heck most companies don't even care if you share accounts as long as you don't do anything suspicious. This, and the fact that companies want you to keep your account safe so you'll continue playing their game and give them your money.

The game is competitive and by allowing account sharing it removes the competition between players that dont share and players that share.
I don't see why you're making such a big deal out of it if you claim to be against sharing.

I'm not against sharing though, I don't care if people share accounts but some people here certainly do.
