[Request] Hire a GM Warp Slave

Dear Staff,

Depending on how good the new source is, this might not even be needed. But if the same issues still occur, could we have a warp slave?
As it stands the GM policy is to only warp when the server crashes. This can stir up a lot of frustration within the community and potentially harm your player-base.

Since this is an old client, I know it's not the GMs fault that people crash randomly even if they GFX. However, I'm sure many people would appreciate it if you offered more leniency on the issue..
You'd probably tell us that everyone should use VMware to help counter the issue and that it'd be too hard to figure out whether someone legitimately crashed or died in a boss run.

Here are a few ways to address / fix those issues:
- Not everyone is capable of using VMware
- Consider Horntail as a higher chance of getting a warp (because if someone were to die, there are 2 bishops capable of resurrection)
- Study who is trustworthy and who isn't (within the community)
- Use some common sense; if a lv. 50 is requesting a rewarp to zak, chances are he or she died.
- Investigate all possibilities before warping a player back in.
- If a party is caught lying for a rewarp, revoke their privileges for future rewarps.
- Reward players for being trustworthy.

These are only a couple of basic solutions, but I'd be more than happy to elaborate more in detail if the staff is willing to consider this idea.
P.S. If you decide to do internships in the future, this job can be a great way to start them off.

This has been suggested before, and was turned down. Also, "Slave" was probably the worst word you could have used....

 

Hey guys, im trying to help us out, give me some backup here. They can also merge it, I didn't know there was another thread about this topic. And yeah, slave is a bit harsh, but a warp slave is a common term for someone who get's stuck with that job. Hell, I'd take it and represent that title with pride if I had the opportunity.

Yes because it's realistic to hire a 'slave' to be available to warp people 24/7. Great idea

 

Because these types of threads have been coming up once every other week or so and are constantly shot down.

 

I didn't suggest a 24/7 warp slave, so please stop trying to slap me with your dolphin tail.
The warp slave wouldn't even be full time, it's a casual job. Whenever the warp slave logs on, he / she can go ahead and address those issues during their graceful presence. They can also leave an estimated warp schedule in the forums so that people can schedule their Zak / HT runs around the same time. It's an idea that can work, it just has to be managed properly.

This is what I do when I wake up every morning and log on my GM character. And I'm fairly sure it's what most GMs do when they log on and get messaged.

 

A simple forum search goes a loooooong way.

Anyways, this is what Thom and Chris were brought back for, to temporarily help with all the rewarps.

 

No offense mate, but I said this in the other thread too. You'd take the title with pride until you realize just what a job it is to warp people back to their bosses all the time.

I'm going to say this again too; rewarping players is just as annoying, frustrating and painful for us as it is for you. The other night, I was having a great time talking to a friend of mine while we Krexel'd. Then, instability hit. She basically solo'd the entire Krexel as I was warping the same people over, and over, and over, and over again. Way to ruin a good night.

If you don't believe already that we're doing everything we can to fix the issue, then there's nothing more we can tell you. We took on two temporary members of staff to help with the workload, we did listen to the outcry from the last thread. It wasn't completely ignored no matter how much you may think it was. And our development continues basically around the clock to fix and improve on what's happening right now.

My bad, I was still under the impression that the policy was to warp people back into a boss only if the server crashed. However you did bring up a good point. Most of our GMs still play maple royals with their main account, so when issues like this arise, I'm sure it's very tedious and annoying to warp someone while you're in the middle of doing something. Wouldn't it be easier on you guys if there was a dedicated warp slave? Meaning, they'd pull up a chair and sit in the free market until someone requested a rewarp. They should also have their commands stripped except for the ability to warp. All the refund requests can be handled by the official GMs.

 

Trust me, no one will want to do this.

 

I'd do it. Also, if the staff decides to start doing interns, they can throw them on this job. It would give them a chance to prove themselves.

 

If you knew what it actually takes to do it, you would not. It's tedious, tiresome, and sometimes degrading. So you're saying you'd sit in FM for hours at a time only warping people when requests come through? (people ask for warps non stop)

 

Yeah, I'm aware of how terrible it is to rewarp people every 5 minutes non-stop. The only good reason to want this job is by having a desire to help relieve the stress of the other GMs and make everyone else happy. I may not be the most qualified, but I'd be willing to accept those terms even if it drove me crazy. Also, you gotta admit it's a great start for an intern. Nobody should want the title of a GM unless they're willing to commit to it.
