The issue that I'm seeing from reading through this thread is that there are a few players who have all the money (aka the 1%). So this suggests that there needs to be a progressive tax of sorts to favour newer players.

Off the top of my head, how about having the donator/lottery idea, where richer players can compete to donate more and the winner(s) get a temporary buff for the week. The buff can be something like a week-long energizer or something of the sort I guess. Then to benefit new players, a portion of the donated money (80%?) can be evenly distributed amongst new players to help fund them.

Of course there's a chance for exploitation by creating new characters, so there will have to be some way to screen who is eligible for the handout, perhaps account age and mesos passed (spent and acquired) through the character.

That lottery seems like a lot of work for not much benefits. The point of this thread was to implement content similar to Owl of Minerva and, to a lesser extent, taxes.

In the game TERA, they just had a great sinkhole event. Essentially, you purchase tickets from an NPC for X amount of currency and use them to place bets. Each round consists of 2 monsters pitted against each other. Players who trust their RNG can bet on whichever monster they think will win, and the amount that they receive (if victorious) varies depending on their bet, as well as how favorable their monster was -- so you win more if you bet on the underdog, and vice versa. The sinkhole aspect comes in to play because the price that you sell each ticket for is only 90% of what you pay when buying.

How about we raise the price of Magic Seeds a bit and implement the items from Kyrin that allow you to teleport to Omega. Normally you get a few from a one time quest, but maybe we change it so doing the quest makes them available to buy for Mesos from her.

Last time I checked (which was a couple months back), the Nautilus <--> Omega warp didn't work even with the warp card. There was no (error) message when trying to use it, either.

As for seeds, that might be worth doing since it currently costs more for the Ellinia->Orbis->Leafre boat trip than buying one seed

Lol the maple economy is a interesting one. At the start of a new server, prices are low ---> there arent really mesos floating around but as it goes on, inflation is bound to happen which is the case now as it becomes popular.

There must be something for players to buy as mesos. Owl is a good implementation but we need more of that. Given the high flow of mesos now the meso will more of less be more and more inflated as time goes on and players increases.

With zero updates (new source hype?) this problem will be worsened in the end if no action is taken....

Policies should be taken to target Higher level players ---> % recovery based items drop rate like elixer and power elixer should be decreased. (or entirely removed) ( elixer are sold dirt cheap in market now)

New leaf city % recovery pots should also be increased. And Npc that sell elixers and power elixer for a standard price should be implement ( only high lvled will be using it) ---> especially bishop and mages using manabull forget what the potion that recover % mp is.

Only higher lvled players will be affected and even so at an small amount only.

Note: No high lvl player will risk the chance of using smaller % heal amount potion at horntail/ zakum when it 1/1s so the alot more mesos will be spent on power elixer in npcs.

Npcable equips are actually the heaviest source of mesos for many pple but this cannot be changed as it will defeat the whole purpose of mapleroyals... (fixed rate of money supply)

Does anyone actually reads the thread anymore =/

I am sure mesos will drop in value as time goes on if no action is taken...

This is pretty much the case for all MMOs. It had been stated that there will be potentiall new meso sinks in the game in the new source.

In my opinion, NPCing is already too rooted into this server so doing anything drastic to it would create unrest.

I think you could simply do away with mesos drops at popular training places.
    Make potions more expensive.
    Make crafting more expensive.
Reduce the price of equipment that is sold to merchants.

Instead of implementing straight up TP rocks and Safety charms, I think it'd be cooler to see some kind of meso-to-nx lottery with an NPC. For example, let's say there's an NPC that costs 10mil to activate, with a 40% chance of returning 1k nx, 30% chance of returning 2k nx, 20% chance of returning 3k nx, 7.5% chance of 5k nx, 2.4% of 10k nx, and .1% of 25k nx.

At the end of the day, it's a gamble with each run having a 70% chance of losing out on mesos/nx, a 20% chance of just about breaking even, and a 10% chance of getting more than you normally would. These numbers are by no means what I'm proposing to be concrete. Even with these sample numbers, you'll be making about 2200 nx per 10mil on average. That's about 25-50% less efficient than buying from people. People who need TP rocks, Safety charms or AP resets have a more "consistent" way of getting them without waiting, but at a higher cost. People who want to gach can throw away (on average) 150mil for another 35 chances at white scrolls or chaos scrolls.

This way, it's also adding another somewhat interactable aspect to the game as opposed than taxing or lowering and raising numbers.

I HAVE A NEW IDEA FOR THE MONEY SINK.
Reform how tax works in MapleRoyals.
In addition to taxing stores and trades, implement a Fair Tax on income and a Flat Tax on the total mesos that you own.
For example, if you own 20mil, and you make 1 mil a day, your income of 1 mil will be taxed 5% for that day, and your total amount of money you own will be taxed 2% everyday until the amount of money you own is down to a particular amount. If you own 3 bil and you make 200 mil that day, your income will be taxed 90% and the total amount of mesos you own will be taxed 2% per day. Obviously income is not constant day to day and will always be variable and so the tax will be conducted EVERYDAY on your NEW income. Income is strictly defined by how much mesos is in your inventory one day and how the positive difference compared to how much mesos there is in your inventory the next day. These are hypothetical numbers.
The tax should occur at midnight or 8 am or whatever, and the mesos will be directly subtracted from your inventory or your storage or wherever.
The mesos should go into a MapleRoyals Global Reserve. This mesos should be used as a way to pay volunteers who would spend time or conduct service and given temporary GM responsibilities in fixing issues like bugs and whatnot that people need. Volunteers will be exempt from the total mesos owned Flat Tax. In fact, mesos can be used to incentivize staff members in general by making mesos harder to keep in their characters in the first place. Who knows, maybe the Global Reserve may be useful for many other things as well.
For people who are inactive, the Flat Tax will operate up to 30 days after their last log in.
This will sink a LOT of money out of the economy and incentivize people to give service to the community to fix little bugs and issues or even give information to people who need it. Additionally, the super rich are not given anything extra like in the other possible money sink ideas where they just gamble away for items and whatnot and hope for compensation that applies only to them and no one else. Ultimately, this can be either a long-term or permanent solution to an inflating economy. Mesos is both thrown into a trash can and recirculated back into the economy when needed. No other rates will be needed to be changed AKA mesos rates and item sold rates and drop rates so that new players will not be economically burdened. In fact, if possible, the mesos that is taxed and put into the reserve, can directly be used as (additional) mesos drops from monsters. Overall, the Global Reserve would be a source of mesos able to recirculate mesos in the economy, instead of having the current system continuously pump more and more mesos into the economy.
I hope people read this and this thread isn't outdated.

Additionally, in order to vary incomes, because as we all know its rather straightforward and simple for everyone to make the same amount of income, longer tenured & active players will receive tax cuts or given other benefits that will improve their income, for example increased mesos drop rate. These tax cuts/benefits apply only from character to character. The point of these tax exemptions and benefits are to encourage the rich to keep playing while not sticking them in the same boat as newer players in terms of their ability to maintain income and wealth increase.

I think the economy in maple is much like a real economy, that is for the supply and demand part, which is basically the central and essential part of every economy.
Though in maple it's much more simple as it is much smaller and there are less things to be considered.

To create meso sinks you can do 2 things, either get mesos flowing out of the system, or have less mesos enter the system.
    - The only ways to create mesos are: to sell items to an NPC, to catch mesodrops from monsters and a few quests. Other than that I don't think we can create money.
    - Ways to get money out of the system are much more available: Buying of pots or items or tickets for boats (traveling) from NPC, Buying from merchants (tax), using storage (tax), buying owls, booming mesos with ME (strange, but its still mesos that noone will ever see again), crafting, and a few more I suppose.

Anyways you can alter any of the above things to get inflation, or deflation going. Change these variables directly will get the cleanest result in my opinion. You could set up varius complicated systems to get people giving money and getting something else in return, but I think that it could cause unnessisary complications that can destory an economy if not handled cautiously.

As for the "richest 1%", I believe that you will always have people that are extremely rich and this can't be prevented. As said in previous posts, they could for example buy every WS and/or Chaos scroll available, so the price will skyrocket and then they can sell for a huge profit again, making them even wealthier. I don't believe you can do much about it at this point, there are always poor, medium and wealthy people. Decreasing the money created could somewhat prevent more people from becoming rich very fast.
The only true solution to this problem is having a ton more people playing the game so the economy will be a lot bigger so that one superrich will only own a very small percentage of the total economy. So that it would be impossible for the superrich to buy out a certain item because there are just too many available, this way one cannot influence prices just like that.

Superrich exsisted in GMS as well (and any game with currency really) because thats just the way it works, in GMS though the active player base is much bigger, the economy is much bigger, but i'd take a much longer time to reach these amounts of wealth, whereas for Royals with 2x drop and 4x mesos, this wealth is created much quicker and with a smaller active playerbase.
On this server you can get up to 1b easily after 1-2 months of playing, of course this is largely due to free NX. But its still much faster than in regular maple, which makes people rich faster then bored.

The concept of hogging rare items doesn't apply here because everyone can gachapon. Even if they hog, everyone and anyone has the power to sell chaos/white scroll. Even the richest have only so much mesos and unable to hog every chaos/white scroll. The only reason of price surge, ironically is due to the large amount of players playing and reaching end game and chaos/white scrolls are the way of achieving the aim. (deflating price of regular cursed scrolls)

Super-rich in gms comes at a price of investing real life money. Mapleroyals however, comes with the concept of time invested = money. Much like mesos/hour. And while 1-2b may seem alot, it hardly is called "rich" as 3 chaos scrolls is all it takes to make u broke again.

I suggest u take a broader look at a private server vs p2w concept of offcial maple.

I'm not saying 1-2b is considered rich, I said that you can get that amount of money extremely fast on this server. Also superrich people existed on GMS well before it became a pay2win game.

Furthermore, I assume, from browsing the forums that there are people here with 30b in mesos (or more?) thats already 100 chaos scrolls. If at one point instantly 100 scrolls were to be bought, or maybe even a few rich people at once buying like 300 scrolls. Then naturally the price will go up, because all scrolls will be out of the FM and only few can be found, so all the remaining scrolls will increase in price. (availablity decreases) I think this would be very well possible here. Though, obviously this increase will only be very temporary. (and I only took this example because it was suggested in the previous posts in this threat)

As you said, in Royals: time = wealth. So if we were to decrease the amount of money created, then new players wont get rich as fast as they do now. Or alternatively and maybe even with better results, is to increase the prices of pots. This drives money out of the economy, which will in return lead to deflation.
BTW: with the data that Matt gave us about current total mesos and the total meso sink, were the mesos 'sold' to npc's (i.e. buying of pots, weapons) included in this? I imagine it will be quite some money too.

Anyways, my point with the superrich was, that you can't really make them lose out much more money than the average player (percentage-wise) unless you give them unfair disadvantages. Also because they can make money ever so quickly compared to new players.

edit: Now that I think of it, it could be implemented cleanly and all it would take really is to change the tax-percentages for trading. I'm not quite sure what it is right now, but if it'd range between 0,1% (for +1m) and 2% (for +100m) right now. Make it 0,1% (for +1m) and 4% (for +100m). Or even add another cap at +500m at 8%.

On a side note: I don't think there is a big problem with the economy atm, the prices are pretty stable since I came here (which is not too long ago). But as I've read in the posts above, I hear that the rich are getting richer every day, and this could (partly) be a solution.

Suggest how rich can make 1b within like a day (beside selling leech? o_O

I actually find it difficult to make mesos at my lvl though. 140 NL.

For example Scrolling, buy some chaos and make good FS, PCG, SCG,... The thing is just because they have more money they will easily make more money. For them, I suppose, throwing away 1b is not a big deal, if they have a certain amount of succes chance at getting 2-3b in return, if scrolling works out. If you dont or barely have that amount of money you wont risk it all.
Another example is bossing. higher lvls host HT parties and ZAK to sell skillbooks, helmets and pendants. all of these things is basically taking money from the 'poor' and giving it to the 'rich'.

Im not saying that this is bad, but it is just how it is, Simlpy put...
