If a white knight uses a charge skill for his weapon, does that make his attacks magic-based? Meaning - would they be affected by the magic defense of a monster and not its weapon defense? Also, does the Magic Crash skill negate magic defense or just the defense up skill that some monsters have?

The calculation for weapon defense and magic defense is the same. Unless one of the monster's defenses is significantly higher than the other, it doesn't matter whether the charges are physical or magical. Are there any examples of a monster like that?
Magic Crash dispells the magic up buff that monsters use. It does not affect magic defense or defense up.

But the text for Magic Crash says "Cancel out enemy’s magical defense up skill in a certain rate"
The reason I ask about magic defense is because of Magic Crash - if it does negate magical defense, and if a paladin's charged attacks become magic damage, that would mean that Magic Crash would vastly empower a knight's attacks. But...I get the feeling that charged attacks still deal weapon damage but with an elemental modifier. Skill text description can lead us to believe things inaccurately

I don't actually know whether it's magic up or defense up, but it's this buff that I thought Magic Crash was supposed to dispel:

But I just went and tested it and it doesn't work at all. I could have sworn it used to work. Now I'm left wondering if Magic Crash currently does anything at all in this server.

A monster's defense (weapon or magic) doesn't reduce damage by very much. Even if a monster had all of its defense removed, the damage increase would be insignificant. The only exception could be if it also worked on bosses that you're attacking continuously for minutes at a time.

I think this is right since paladins do 1 damage when a boss uses it buff to block weapon damage but do normal damage when they block magic damage.

Well it depends on how much damage you do before defense, and the level difference - cause if you're fighting a high-level monster, it can be pretty bad, unlike player defense that does little at higher levels

I calculated it for a level 100 knight with 400 str, 150 dex, and 120 att, using a two-handed sword, fighting a grim phantom watch that is level 99 and has 850 weapon defense. If I did it right, I got an approximately 10% reduction from weapon defense if using Power Strike with no charge

Whether that seems significant is pretty subjective, but the reason I asked this question was to see if, as a knight, I could turn my attacks into magic damage, nullify the enemy's magical defense, and fight monsters above my level more effectively - magical defense also seems more significant than the level difference when fighting higher-level mobs, so I'd be doing full damage - doesn't seem like that's gonna happen, though

Thanks to poison's mechanics, I can beat up ghost vikings and lycanthropes that are like 30 levels above me, cause poison doesn't give a damn about defense, or anything else really, so I was curious if I'd manage to do something similar with a knight. I guess not, at least not this way

Ah, I was wrong when I said that the damage reduction from defense was insignificant. I incorrectly assumed it was subtracted from final damage.
Using the formulas from ayumilove, I can see where you get the 10% reduction. One thing I noticed is that as your base damage range improves, the damage reduction caused by a monster's defense is less significant, though not insignificant. For example, a 3k~5k warrior at Grims has their damage reduced by 12.75% due to the 850 wdef, but a 6k~10k warrior's damage is only reduced by 6.375%. Double the damage range, half the reduction.

Anyway, I tested Magic Crash and mdef damage reduction:
    Code:
Player damage range (in stat window): 258~473
Buffs: Ice Charge (110% damage), Booster, Power Stance
Weapon: Old Gladius (10watk, 1h sword, 60% mastery)
    Monster: Bone Fish, 840wdef, 540mdef

Calculated (theoretical) damage dealt if physical against 840wdef: 1~58
Calculated (theoretical) damage dealt if magical against 540mdef: 1~223
Calculated (theoretical) damage dealt if magical against 0mdef: 283~520

    Observed (actual) damage dealt: 1~98
Observed (actual) damage dealt w/Magic Crash: 1~96

    Notes:
    1) Magic Crash did not change the damage dealt.
    2) Observed damage was about 500 hits without Magic Crash, 500 with Magic Crash.
    3) Magic Crash was generally used floating directly in front of the Bone Fish. I also tried using it on the floor directly in front, floating just above, and tanking.
    4) Damage dealt was much more in line with physical damage.
    5) The data doesn't show this, but about half of the hits were 1's.
    6) I'm not sure why my observed damage dealt is slightly higher than the calculated damage dealt.
    Conclusion:
Elemental Charges do not change the player's damage to magical damage. The damage is still physical, and is reduced by the enemy's weapon defense.

I can't say with 100% confidence that Magic Crash does not nullify magic defense. Since it's clear that charges deal physical damage, I'd have to use a magic-dealing character to test Magic Crash. However, now that I think about it, a good indicator that Magic Crash does not reduce mdef, but is instead meant to debuff an existing (temporary) buff is the lack of a duration in the skill description. I don't think Nexon would want you to be able to permanently reduce a monster's magic defense to zero. I also can't think of any skills that have a duration that isn't specified in the description.

Whoa, thanks for the tests! And I see what you mean about the lack of duration, that would make sense. So, I'm not doing that...but I still wanna make a knight, I've got another thing in mind
