As of this post I have been banned for 3 days for KSing. I am not contesting that as I did technically KS. However I do still have a problem with this whole situation. The one thing that bothers me is Mr. Joels screenshots. He deliberately took the shots when he was not being verbally abusive. I managed to grab a screenshot of him doing this after I had calmed down enough to do so. View attachment 10843 Can't something be done about this? How is it fair that if a person needs to go do something away from their computer for a minute or two, someone can cc in, attack immediately and take the map, even though that person is still using the map? The reason I got banned is because i took the bait and got mad. I feel like the solution to this problem would be extending the mapowner duration to 5 minutes. Then I would not feel as if I had the map unfairly taken from me. If someone is gone for 5 minutes then I feel it is fair to take the map. 3 minutes is just not. As for Joels.... Rude! But I guess you can't ban someone for not observing the rules of common courtesy can you? Anyway... Point is I really really think the duration of mapowner should be extended to 5 minutes. Thank you for your time. ~Nayruu/Rose EDIT: screenshot upload didnt work so here it is on imgur
Just as a PS I've had problems with the 3 minute mapowner in the past and I would think others have had the same problem. It's not just this one situation, though this situation is what got me to post on it. Anyone who sees this feel free to let me know if I'm not the only one having issues, I'd like to know I'm not alone on this. If I am.. well now you know my opinion xP
Would be nice if people just had a little more courtesy. If i go to a map, and I see not one, but two people on it who arent moving I dont immediately take the channel. I atleast make an effort to look for empty channels and then return if I am unable too. I will try and see if anyone's there wait a few and then go about taking the map if I dont see anyone responding. Specially on a Skele's map, the odds are pretty fricken high that someones is actually there and havent been afk for that long. Worst comes to worst, I keep checking, I will eventually find a channel thats open, without ever having to take someones channel.
I'm not complaining... I am aware that I was KSing and I'm not contesting my ban! I'm looking for a solution as I feel that the way the system is it allows people like this to get away with rudeness.
He was not being rude. You say you were aware that you were KSing. If that's true, you really were being a thorn up his ass. If you're really too busy to check in once every 2~3 minutes to use a single attack in order to maintain map ownership, you deserve to lose the map. What Enticing posted earlier on in this thread is great. Really. But you can't expect everyone to do that. At least not in a map that's always crowded, in this case skeles. I don't have all day to play this game, so when I see a channel that's free for the taking, I'll take it, whether people are AFK in that map or not.
Unfortunately I did not capture some of the more rude comments he made. Sometimes one has to go make food or get a phone call, and is watching the map from a distance, trying to attack to keep the map. That whole process is very stressful, because of people like Joels. I'm merely suggesting a solution to this problem, and waiting for a GM answer.
Common courtesy is indeed highly allowed in these mapowner standarts. (Speaking of experience too.) Always make known you are there. Ask the persons who are there even when AFK. "Hey is this map free?" No response? Walk towards the people and show yourself. Let them know you are there. Once again just ask politely. "Hey, are you here? Are you busy? Is this map free?" If no one replies, attack. if the map owner is yours ok. Great! But- should the person return and panic on you. Accept that they were busy there before you. Is it really a haste for you to take someone else's map who takes one little break to get some drinks or whatever. Indeed, you asked, no one replied. But also keep in mind, that when the person returns after 10 minutes or so, and you have map owner then it's just. Should the person come back 10 seconds after you took it, consider this might indeed have been a hastened pause. Empty channels are the best channels to be found. So I recommend to look those up and THEN go ask around at the people who are busy. You can also ask them how long are they going to take. Should they not reply, ok. Another channel. Do they reply with "another hour or so," CC. Try to find the channel that will give it to you the fastest. If no on should be done within your timespan, just try to find another zone. Should someone say, I am done soon. Wait patiently in their channel and you can train soon. Is all this stated above really that hard to do? EDIT: Mostly also because I am friggin sick to see people come into my channel Gen 1 friggin time without asking and THEN speak. THAT is friggin insulting and irritating.
I do it the other way around. If I see people AFKing in a map I try to get ownership. If I do become the new mapowner, I start surfing to check if there's a free channel somewhere. If there is I'll just take the empty one, but if there's not I go back to the one I claimed.
And your solution would be to extend the time to 5 minutes? I guarantee you you'll face the same problems even if they do that. If you're too busy to attack once every 3 minutes, you're probably too busy to do it once every 5 aswell.
Care to explain why? Or is it just an assumption on your part that extending the time period by 2 minutes will solve most problems?
Sure I'll explain. I've found that most things people have to go do that cause them to lose a map take about 3 mins or 4 mins. If you're gone for 5 then I feel its fair to take the map. In my own experience I've come back just in time to see someone grab my map... just everyone up until this point has been nice about it and given it back, as I was still using it. Personally the 3 minute time limit causes a lot of stress for me, because, as I said before, most times i have to go for a little its 3 or 4mins. This may not be the same for others, which is why I asked people for feedback.
A lot of the time what causes trouble is making food. A lot of the time I'm at a point where my schedule demands I leech, and make food at the same time. I suppose I could figure some way to fix that on my own, but hey I thought the 5min duration would be a good idea to save people from these situations. If you have reasons why its bad, please let me know. EDIT: It just seems to me that 3mins is not enough time in general, but thats just me
Don't schedule leeching players when you need to cook yourself food. Or you could get a friend to hold your map while you prepare food. Or you could buy read-to-eat food so that you don't need to spend time away from your computer to prepare it. Some pretty simple solutions there I think.
Without even generously asking before grasping the map? That's insanely rude. It's better to look for an empty one then ASK when you see people in a map and don't Gen immediately. Like I said before, that's just rude. Asking is better than taking action immediately He/she could be in their menus for all I care! Just checking inventory, or be in a trade!? They can respond before their mapowner is claimed to another. Or in other cases etc.
The irony is when this happened I was making microwave food. So you're saying the solution is just better time management? I can see your point on that... It's just that sometimes things can't be helped... I only suggest this so that when those situations arise you have a chance to think oh! I need to go attack so I can keep my map. It just doesn't feel like enough time. Honestly that's all I can use to back myself up, is that it just plain doesn't feel right.
Never said I just enter a map and gen immediately. I do ask if a person is AFK or not, and give them some time to respond. Not like a minute, but a fair amount. If they don't respond I will attempt to take map ownership. But I don't surf through all channels before taking a map that has people AFK in it, no. The reason for that is simple: other people generally won't do that either, so if I were to do it I'd more than likely 'lose' my opportunity to take that map.
