(Moved from Character Issues, hence the formatting ~ Kat) Issue: Cannot get past character selection screen - MAC ban on account. (According to the troubleshooting guide, at least.) Character Name: KaenNoKage Additional Information: I've just downloaded the game and created my character today and have been unable to get past character selection screen. I appear to have the same problem as these two threads; http://royals.ms/forum/threads/cant...een-disconnected-from-the-login-server.42625/ http://royals.ms/forum/threads/hello.42179/ but the solutions in them are of little help. I tried logging in through both character selection methods as the first link had done to solve it, and I've already added the entire MaplestoryRoyals folder to my exceptions list in my AVG protection, so that should not be the problem either; though I also tried disabling said antivirus to see if there were any changes, but there were not. Do you guys have any ideas/suggestions about how to solve this? *edit* The same thing happens on all characters, I tried making a second character to see if it'd somehow let me in. It didn't.
For the record, if you see this @Katsuruka ; AVG still calls at least three different files in mapleroyals a trojan. Could be more, but I didn't feel like adding more individual files to the exceptions after the third time it pulled me out of the game to rip out a file, so I added the entire folder. The three files it pulled out were: mapleroyals.exe, sxe71C4.tmp, and sxeDC5.tmp Hopefully it'll help you guys fix the issue to know it's more than one file ^^
Why didn't you add the folder to the exceptions? OK, it looks like you're MAC-banned and that it happened a long time ago. Unfortunately, there is no account in the database with a MAC address which matches yours, which means you were most likely banned either prior to the server wipe at the beginning of October 2013 or during the early part of 2014 when an error in a database query caused a bunch of accounts to get their MAC address set to 0. So... unfortunately we'll need you to remember if you or someone else has played MapleRoyals from your computer before, and also we'll need the name of the character that you/they played. We can't investigate whether or not this was a wrongful or expired ban if we don't have any information to go on. Moving this to Ban Appeal.
I meant that I did add the folder to the exceptions, I think you misread what I'd said. I have no idea how that could possibly be true, as this is my own personal computer that only I use, and I know with absolute certainty that I have never once played on this server, nor been banned from it. I've never been banned from anything ever, for that matter. Also, nobody else in my household likes Maplestory. I've only played on two private servers before, and they were NightSoulMS and... I forget what the other one was called, but it had ridiculously higher rates, it was like 32x exp or something; it had nothing to do with classic MS. Are you absolutely certain that it couldn't be a bug of some sort? I have never hacked, exploited, abused other players, or anything else that would be a bannable offense in any game. I'm just a regular player that wants to join the server because a friend is already playing on it, and I'm apparently somehow banned before having ever downloaded the client. :T
Uh. Technically I have it installed, I used it all of once to log into Hearthstone for a card back. Would that cause issues? I can uninstall it immediately if you think that's what it is, I wasn't aware it even does anything in the background unless you launch it.
You don't need to uninstall it but it might cause you to occasionally get caught up in a wrongful MAC-ban, so unless you need it, I'd advise uninstalling it. VirtualBox is like Parallels or VMWare in that even when you're not using it, it adds its own MAC to your computer's MAC address. Your MAC address took a little longer to figure out as it comes from a bunch of MAC addresses that originally belonged to a now-defunct company and were bought by the people who run VirtualBox. Like with Parallels or VMWare, there will often be multiple users with the same VirtualBox MAC address, so if one of those people gets themselves banned, they accidentally cause other VirtualBox users to get banned too. Hope this makes sense. (You seem reasonably techy, so thought you might appreciate the explanation!) You should be able to login now, as I've removed the MAC ban.
I am indeed reasonably techy, so thanks I can't believe I wasted an entire day just because I was too lazy to get rid of a program I never intended to use again! Oh well. xD Seeing if I can log in right now, I've uninstalled VB so it won't cause me grief again
Let me know if you can login OK? And don't blame yourself, blame the unknown person who got themselves banned while using VirtualBox around two years ago!
