I know the obvious answer is spear, but I want to know how much more superior the spear is to the polearm. For me personally, I love pole arms because of Dynasty Warriors and how badass they look in this game. I just got my warrior to lvl 30 and im still debating if i should go for spear or pole arm.

Spears. Pole Arms aren't good for mobs under 3 and even worse for bosses, which I'm sure you'll want to do plenty of near the end game.

Actually you can comfortably use both spears and pole arms if you put your skill points correctly. Please do not just use spears. Spears are much better for bossing of course, but pole arms are much better for leveling. Do not limit yourself to one type of weapon, you will regret it.

everyone are talking about how much better spears are. but why? somewhere i read in a guide that polearms do better "average" damage then spears, while spears have a higher hit, but since they use stab/slash. but since we are playing 0.62 im not sure if the formula makes spears better. i would like confirmation that spears are "the shit" and not just rumors.
lets say i go kick boss ass. of course it will require "lots" of hits. if the "average" damage is better with polearms, then why do we use spears? or is there some spears-only skills that are much better the polearm skills?

Dark Knight's main bossing skill is Dragon Crusher which is a forced stab. Pole Arm Stab attacks have a 3.0 main stat multiplier in the damage formula whereas Spears have a 5.0 main stat multiplier.

that explains it all. thx for replying! making spears > polearms.
then i get it why people want to make hybrid, to use the polearms before they get to the Spear Crusher / Dragon Fury (Spear)
but after they reach 3rd job, then there no more use of polearms.

There is plenty of use for polearms in third job - for example, at Wolf Spiders, Hime or any other really mobby map. For mobbing, Dragon Fury is better because it hits up to 6 enemies. It has a forced slash animation, therefore Dragon Fury (Polearm) is the best choice for mobbing. (Polearms do most damage with a slash animation, Spears do most damage with a stab animation.)

Actually you got it backwards 3rd job is where polearm fury takes over since a lot of the maps you'll be training at has a lot of large mobs such as wolf spiders/ulu2/himes you'll be living off polearm fury (if hybrid) till your ready to transition to skeles/petris after 4th job
