Hey, i'm a new player who wants to try the server out, but I'm having a lot of trouble just trying to launch the game.
I'm getting the classic "server check/firewall/connection" message, so it has to be my connection.

I tried everything I could think of (reinstall 3 times, redownload, try a different client, disable my firewall, Windows Defender and Avast, add exceptions to all those of the whole MapleRoyals folder...)

I'm pretty sure my japanese ISP is the problem, since I live in a student shared house and it blocked some other stuff before (Steam, Hearthstone, etc) and I need to use Hotspot Shield to play those. I tried playing with Hotspot on another private server and it worked fine, but here it's impossible.

And if I use my phone as a tether it doesn't work either, maybe because the company is also Japanese =_=

What's really confusing is that I downloaded the Open Beta server and at least using Hotspot Shield it allowed me to play...

I can contact my ISP so they can open the ports needed to play, but I have no idea how to find what ports the server uses.

Any help before I give up?

    Thank you!

Yeah. Japan blocks mostly alot games/sites for some reason. I bought VPS and solved problem, but yeah obviously there are other solutions. I wasnt there for long so i cant say whats exactly the best and free solution.
Have you tryed any other servers, do they work?

Have you tried allowing MapleRoyals.exe to have permission to access to the internet @ the Firewall options?
If you are unsure about this please read the documentation for your firewall software.

    Edit:
I lived in Japan for quite awhile and during my time there, I had no problem playing MapleRoyals for 3 months. Until I moved back to my home country temporarily.
    I don't think it's the Japanese internet.

Yes I tried that and still not working. Again, it's weird that I can't play on the official server BUT I can play on the Open Beta server. And the funny part is that I didn't even allow the Open Beta on my firewall.

I can play on other servers if I change my IP with Hotspot Shield. I won't say names but it's a very similar server to Royals.

People who have used Hotspot Shield have gotten banned so odds are the MAC addresses/IP addresses used by Hotspot Shield are blocked on our server. Your best solution is to either invest in a cheap/free VPN as someone else in this thread alluded to, or if you need the ports we use, I think the only one you need to get opened is 8484

Thank you! I will try that.

In case opening the port won't work, do you know any VPN I can try?

Most VPN's have been used by cheaters. There is a high chance to get banned.

I finally managed to log in the game! It was something related to my connection. Thank you all for trying to help, really appreciate it because I was really upset. See you ingame :)
