These two quests on Victoria Island: A Lesson On Job Advancement The Path of (Job Title) They often over-level players, like VERY OFTEN. I run a guild of new players, and they're constantly complaining about how they over-leveled, especially magicians. So I figured, it'd be advantageous to suggest that something be done about this. Perhaps: Remove the EXP bonus from completing them, or... Keep the EXP at 1x for these quests (that is: just cut the exp gain in quarter). New players don't expect the EXP to go to x4 when they do these quests on Victoria Island. The 2nd quest gives 1200 EXP, and that's like 90% of level 10-11. So if someone is level 10, it's most likely going to over-level them, and especially if they're level 7 or 8, and becoming a Mage. Many players quit once they've realized they've messed up, and they don't feel like creating a new character. Just a thought. ~Gossamer
I personally don't think this is necessary, as I believe you don't lose any SP for overlvling your first job in the new source.
I've actually had this happen myself, but on a second attempt of doing that Olaf quest. I noticed that if you choose the option to talk to the job NPC. You will not complete the quest. And after receiving your job, complete the quest. Talk to Job NPC, do not click quest, click talk to them(bottom option) and that's all
If you are about to "over level", then don't do the quest. You can prevent this by checking the EXP bar , training to lv10 after completing the quests to lv9 in maple island. It will be regarded as a quest in Victoria Island and it is not forcing you to do it , thus why nerf it when you have a choice in accepting the quest.
As already said, this is not a problem in the new source, and this quest will stay like it is and after the new source also stay the same since you can over level without losing the skill points
Regardless of whether or not this is even an issue, did you read my original post? Many players end up over-leveling. You only get x1 EXP on Maple Island, so when people suddenly show up on Victoria Island, without anything alerting them to the fact that EXP just went to x4, they will likely assume that it's been x4 the entire time, and that nothing changed when they landed on Vic. Thus, they go and take the quest when they're level 10 with 30% EXP, and then they complete it before they advance, since that's the natural order of things, and that's likely how they did it in old maple, not expecting to gain 85% EXP from it. If your argument is that anyone that does that is stupid, and isn't worth considering, then that's a bit silly, imo. But each to his own. It's especially an issue for mages. You can do that quest at level 7, and end up level 9 before you know it. But, because the new source takes care of this issue, I suppose that means this isn't an issue, which is hopefully a sign that the new source would be coming soon, otherwise they'd just be neglecting the current source.
Yes, I have read your post, I understood what you are suggesting, what I am saying is that one have to comprehend that by accepting a quest there is a risk of over-leveling. Hence players should be made aware of this event.I never said that anyone who does that is stupid , please don't interpret my words wrongly. The least that the admins can do is by having a warning or a notice in the NPC before leaving Southperry or the NPC where you first spawn.
Careful now, let's not start our flamethrowers. You two are both agreeing that it's bad, seanc just thinks there's a better way of doing it than nerfing the quest. I'm actually on his side, too; I don't see a reason to nerf the quest if we can educate the players instead. +1 for a popup notice maybe when you land on the Lith Harbor ship, notifying you that EXP will become 4x from that point forward.
I'm actually quite disappointed that they've ignored my response. It's a complete work-around to over leveling your level 10 character.
Oh no, trust me I do what you said on pretty much all of my characters as well, but the problem comes in when you're underleveled for the job advancement and planned to use that exp (on 1x!) to level to the right level and instead get surprised with 4x and overlevel. Very common for mages, so your workaround (while definitely a good one!) isn't exactly always applicable.
I think a reminder to do ~rates before taking any of the Olaf quests might also be good. The rate doesn't automatically change once you land in Victoria but if you change channels, change maps, dc or log out, it changes.
It's the quest that Olaf gives you, that you complete with your job trainer, that messes people up, and unfortunately, you cannot complete that quest without changing to a different map
We understand that it's possible not to over-level. Most people don't over-level. The issue in question was how easy it is for some people to over-level.
Yeah I over-leveled with it yesterday. xD My problem with it is that they have "job advancement" and "path to (class)" in the titles, which makes me believe that they are mandatory for job advance.
