Hello, I'm here today to discuss one of our now-forgotten bosses, Papulatus! It's sad because no one wants to do them anymore. It's one of the fewer, lower-level bosses though, and I feel like another location for potential, lower level train/grind was taken away :c I personally think that the cap of two Paps a day has deterred many people from doing the quests, because the quest line is very time consuming for very little reward (at this time). As such, many people are opting to not do this boss at all, regardless of if they have finished the prerequisites or not. Another reason why I suggest a change to the cap or the cooldown is that this boss is more of a lower level, solo/duo at best, boss. In my opinion, it is more on the level of a Captain Latanica, rather than Zakum or Horntail. Lastly, it is (like I mentioned before) one of the few bosses people at lower levels are able to access and grind at. Having another place where people can gain experience without having to. resort to leech is always a + in my book! However! I also believe that there should be some sort of cap so that people cannot take advantage of this boss and the exp gains. I personally was thinking of a cap of 3-5 that would make Papulatus, and the prequests, worth doing again. If anyone has any ideas or other suggestions as to why this might not be a good idea, please feel free to add your input! Personal Opinion: Also down to raise cap to 7 because that's a great number ♡ EDIT: Just noticed that it's got a bunch of typos. Will fix later after I get some sleep ^^ Double Edit: If people are willing, could they please state why they would choose to keep it the same and/or state if they currently Pap (or would do the prequests on a future character)?
Give it a special, exclusive drop like untradeable Safety Charms similar to those heart boxes or those smegas that show your avatar on the top right hand corner. For something so outta the way to get to, I think something rewarding is a decent means to an end for fighting Pap. I propose a 10 Pap limit. That's equal to like 1-2 Krexel.
I always enjoyed pap. My only issue is how fruitless the drops are. I ran it a few times on my bishop and was met with a drop table of useless weapons and useless books. I like the idea of giving it something like smega or safety charm drops. Maybe even untradeable ap resets. I dont feel like its a bother to get too. It only takes a few minutes of my time to get too, but i am turned off at the fact its only good for average exp.
For me, I don't do pap as often anymore. The only reason I still do it occasionally is just to help guildies/friends who asked for a duo. And why don't I do it anymore? Firstly, it's too far to just go there for that tiny little bit of exp. Secondly, the dispels are annoying to me because i'm melee. Thirdly, the drops are crap. In my opinion, it wasn't worth going that far just for 2 rounds of pap. In my many rounds of pap since 12x, I've only encountered 1 nx maple leaf, which is quite crap. Maybe dropping 5k nx maple leaf more often or like plenty said, untradeable safety charms that would be better and gives people more incentive to fight that boss.
The papulatus quest gives 30 fame for those who wants high fame. A reason to do it at least once for some people, especially those who buys fame. I believe exclusive drops is a great idea! One motivation for us to kill pap
I like the idea of just upping the drop rate of maple leaves. I have over 40 pap cracks saved away between my NL and my bucc, for no real reason other than the fact that I was going to do a bunch of runs at once someday. Since it's limited to 2 per day, I'll probably start just doing my pap runs on my bucc once I finish HP washing it. But yeah, keep the limit, increase the drop rate of the maple leaves for NX... makes it a little more worth it I think.
Personally, I never believed in Papulatus being a boss done for exp. Any capacity in which Papulatus can be efficiently farmed for exp on a daily basis will devalue all of its drops. People will remember two years ago when Brandish30 was worth over 400m because nobody wanted to Pap, and then over the summer the flood of people who realized it was good exp to farm Paps, led by illuminate, devalued Brandish30 to be worth literally nothing. I believe in Papulatus being a boss for the money. Currently, every book Pap drops is worthless. My opinion would be to find a reason for people to try their luck at the "lottery" twice a day; find a friend, duo two Paps and try for something worthwhole in drops. I like Plenty's idea of a Safety Charm, though it is not exactly GMSlike. I also like Sila's idea of doubling the current Maple Leaf rate. Other suggestions I might leave here are removing Pap books from the Krexel droptable, particularly Brandish30 (as it is the most important book Pap drops, perhaps tied with Hurricane30) or adding Chaos Scrolls (which Pap did drop in later versions) at a low enough rate that one person with 5 chars that can do it twice a day each still isn't guaranteed to get one a day. As it is, Pap has no drops that are important enough to hunt to be sold, no drops important enough to farm there over any other location, and gives not enough exp, leaving the only reasons to go as completion and if you're looking specifically for one book. That being said, Pap is in a place right now where people DO still fight it daily, judging from the bosslogs, so a drastic change may not be needed.
@Michael I think the addition of Krexel did more, or at least just as much, to devalue Brandish 30. It was definitely a combination of both though. Otherwise idk, seems like people have few reasons to Pap and do the quests compared to other bosses.
It's great to see everyone's input! I'm totally okay with adding better drops while keeping the 2 a day limit because it will make Pap worth doing again (which was the whole point). I personally like the idea of making Brandish 30 a Papulatus only drop because people will Krex for the exp, not the drops anyway. Buffing the maple leaf drop also seems to be an alternative. I know most people were against chaos/white scroll drops from a boss, but I'm not averse to the idea of them being able to drop at Pap if there is 1) A two a day cap. 2) They have a very, very, very low drop rate. This way, even if people do pap on multiple characters (like @Michael said) you wouldn't be guaranteed a drop. @Rob Exactly, which is why I'm hoping we can brainstorm ideas for people to do Pap again ^^ There seem to be a lot of people also opting for the "keep it the same" option, but I have yet to see any input as to why they believe it should be so. Is there anyone who voted for that option and is currently still doing Pap (or plans to do the prequests for Pap on any of their new characters)? If so, please share your ideas!
5 pap per day would be great. At low levels people may organize x5 pap runs which may be very funny and a foretaste of what is bossing. And i would do em too as NL with a SE friend at lvl 14x. I think it is a good idea to increase the runs x day. And maybe add some other drop aswell
