So I've never done HT so I don't claim to know too much about it. But I was told the other day, that Horntail normally does 9k magic damage. And that currently, this is broken (or did it get fixed?) but would surely be fixed in the new source.

Now in Maplestory, I personally don't believe this game was originally really intended for hardcore players as a lot of the mechanics are a cash grab (NX = real money), badly thought out, or maybe not thought about at all.

I'm not here to try to ask to get rid of HP washing, as it's already so highly integrated into the server, people have spent countless hours on it, etc... But I think from an objective point of view, it's a pretty shitty mechanic. In the first place, I think it was either overlooked, or just another way for Nexon to get people to buy NX cash to conduct the tedious process. (And in the case of royals, I dislike that AP resets are a well of free money).

Anyways... In a make-believe world, this 9k HT magic damage would make DK's HB highly coveted at HT, maybe give classes with higher base HP or skills that block damage an edge over the lower HP classes, etc.

But let's face it, all this is going to really do, is put an even greater emphasis on HP/int/mp/whateverthefuck washing in the community. Again, I'm not saying remove HP washing or whatever, but why add content to further encourage it? Not to mention all the people who have characters well past the point where they could wash their HP to the ridiculous level that would be required to HT.

And again, just my opinion, but I've always thought the core mechanic of bossing that is needing a minimum HP to take a single hit and then you're good to go, is a bit flawed in and off itself. Why draw more attention/focus to that aspect...

If I'm totally spouting BS and this 9k magic damage is incorrect, delete this all i'll gtfo lol.

HP washing is not a necessity.

As far as I know the 9K Magic damage doesn't make much of a difference since you need 5.4k (minimum) HP before HB anyways, which isn't difficult to achieve with no or minimal washing. Different classes have their strengths and weaknesses, DPS classes are squishy but do so much more damage than any other class. Warriors do less damage but they can tank bosses easier, there's always give and take. That said, each class also has a role within bossing. Thief and bowman classes are the squishy DPS that hit like a truck but rely on their team mates to survive. Dark Knights and Bishops jobs are to help the DPS survive the encounters. The other warriors are there for tanking/melee DPS, Arch Mages are for crowd control, and pirates are either melee DPS or ranged DPS. I agree that Maplestory isn't set up well and that leads to a departure from/not needing the roles, but if played within the role you don't need to wash. You just need a DK and Bishop.

I was told that HB was somewhat useless in this situation because HT can dispel and do a magic attack right after very quickly? As in, running an entire HT relying on HB is very, very difficult. If its totally feasible to run HT with multiple members relying on HB, then thats great, I was just under the impression it wasn't.

I understand it should be more "difficult" for the squishy DPS classes to boss, but a huge price tag isn't necessarily difficulty...

Ideally you'd run with a DK per party, where the DK in the ranged party's primary focus is to HB the attackers. Obviously that doesn't really happen but that would probably be the ideal.

Idk anymore since I don't play, but there used to usually just be one DK per run that I went on. Not many people make DKs since Heroes out damage them.

In practice, there are ways around this sort of thing happening. As a host, I will refuse to run without a Dark Knight (which is easy for me to do because I play one myself) because with one, there becomes essentially no requirement of HP washing, thus opening the door for any player to attend. The actual number for HP before HB is 5.6k, not 5.4k, correcting Rob. This number requires very little HP washing to achieve at low levels (Horntail is a level 160 boss, so low level would be defined as around that point) and is perfectly attainable with no HP washing at all at later levels, so there is a very small barrier to entry (if one exists at all).

To address the concern about Dispel; Horntail's body parts are all separate entities, the harder hitting ones of which are the Legs, the Wings and the Tail. The parts of Horntail that can dispel characters are the Left Arm and Head B (middle head). Furthermore, these parts only actually do dispels to specific players at specific times, which can be worked around; in practice, the three hard hitting parts are killed and the HP requirement goes down before Dispel ever becomes a possibility.

So, to address the actual concern of this thread; HP washing is in no way required to attend Horntail runs. HP washing is purely optional and completely a luxury for players who wish to make things easier on themselves. In fact, to take this one step further, there are a grand total of zero bosses in the entire game that we play right now that are completely and entirely impossible for any class to attend and fight without HP washing first. The closest examples to bosses that would require HP washing are Black Crow for Corsairs/Marksmen (they cannot hold pin with their main attacking skills and thus would require Hyper Body), Anego for Warriors (Anego's close range magic attack does 18k+ damage which is attainable with Hyper Body and no HP washing at later levels, although Heroes can manage without even having enough HP for that if they know what they're doing.) and Bodyguard B for the same group (close range attacks do over 11k, which is attainable without HP washing very late into the game.) Grandpa in Showa Town gets special mention; melee classes (other than Shadowers) cannot hit him due to accuracy requirements without damage-inviable builds.

Let me repeat my main point for emphasis: HP washing is not required for Horntail (or any other boss) on any class. Period.

I'm fairly tired, so if I've overlooked something, please feel free to point it out.

It really depends on how you kill ht.
    Some information about HT.
Why does a person need hb if they have less than 9k hb?
Because Legs damage will deal up to 9k damage. If one has less than 7.8k hp then they will need hb for wings aswell.
What if horntail mass-dispells while we're killing legs/wings?
HT will not mass dispell unless :
    1. Left arm's health reaches 60% & below.
    2. Head B's health reaches 60% & below.
The other only way you can get dispelled are from dark wyverns, and they do not spawn unless Prehead 1,Prehead 2, Head A, Head B & Head C reaches below 50%.

If we take all that information into note, we know that aslong as you kill legs & wings before anything else, horntail will not dispell, and if horntail doesnt dispell, then you can survive legs/wings stage with hb & the rest of horntail without hb! (NOTE : HB may be required during mass-seduce, depending on the distance, HP & what parts are still alive.)

So whats an ideal way to kill Horntail? (assuming 6 attackers + bishop)
    Legs > Tail > Wings > Head A/C > Head C/A > Head B > Right arm > Left arm
This would be the most safe way to kill horntail IMO.

With the help of this order, you don't need to worry about the dispell till legs/tail/wings are killed, which will eliminate the need of hyperbody temporarily. Then just head towards head A & head C, these does not require any HB aslong as you have 5.6k hp, once theyre killed go for head B, which will trigger the first mass-dispell! But since legs/wings are killed, you aren't in need of HB anymore! Once head B is dead, proceed to kill right arm since the left arm has the ability to mass-dispell. Once it has been killed, go ahead & get left arm away from his suffering in order to get the juicy rewards from horntail itself! And ta-da, you have succesfully killed horntail in a decent way!

Reasons to kill horntail with this order :
Some people might prefer to kill tail before wings, but remember, this path is optimized for the ones that want a safe but efficent way to kill horntail!
Tail is needed to be killed after legs so the seduce-target wont get seduced into tail & die.
Once tail is dead, proceed to kill wings so HB will not be required for the people that has less than 7.8k hp I believe.
Heads before arms so people cant get 1/1'd during mass-seduce from arms.
Head B after Head A/C so you don't have to deal with mass-dispell if you have an echo ongoing. Also the bishop may die during head B & it would suck if u didnt get hs for Head C/A for killing Head B before one of them. :<
Right arm before left arm to avoid mass-dispell incase the bishop would die & you would lose HS for one of the arms & attackers with low hp may die since the arm can mass seduce then mass dispell, killing the bishop & low hp attackers.

I think that this is enough info, if I skipped something or rephrased anything poorly, just let me know! Happy horntailing!
