So, this is a nostalgic maplestory server isn't it? Why not let the player decide how nostalgic the game will be for them. Why not let players set their own rates from 1x exp 1x mesos 2x drop to 4x exp 4x mesos 2x drop? (Drop unchanged to maintain basic fairness across the server) For me the most memorable thing of old maplestory was how long I spent killing the noob monsters due to low exp rates, and always being low on mesos. Royals is a great server to bring back long lost nostalgia. The only place I don't get satisfied is in the rates. I don't care if everyone else has higher rates, challenge was/is always fun. Does anyone agree that they would have more fun if there was a way to lower your rates? It took me 1-2 weeks to level up from 105 to 145. I don't think this is right... I've just tried out a 1x 1x 2x server, and what someone said in my mesos rate reduction suggestion about new players having it too hard. It's not true. Spoiler: See Spoiler I did some quests and they gave me plenty of potions, I always have a surplus of mesos from selling equips and if I ever get low, grinding at HHG1 replenishes your potions as red snails and other monsters drop a ton of red potions! Grinding on these monsters is good too because you 1 hit them so it's a bunch of fast exp. Possible Problems: 1) People will cry to have their rates changed to a higher rate. Solution: Allow rate changes every 15 or 30 days. But if it's a new character, not until level 20. (Prevent frequent rate changes for better server performance, give people time) Possible solution: Don't allow the account to change its rate until the person has played royals for some time. (Maybe have a decent leveled character on the account.) Maybe to add competition, by level 30 the character should decide if they want to have access to change rates or compete on a leader board vs other players playing at the specified exp rate permanantly.
I would much rather see a separate game server (Bera) with lower rates and more limited content. I think the community is large enough for that now, but the Staff and the developers in particular are likely working on more pressing and important matters. Maybe in the future? I think having people play on one game server with different rates would be confusing and annoying.
Personally I don't see any issue with being able to make your rates lower than what they are by default (although I probably wouldn't do it). However I do have an issue with splitting the player base into different servers. One of the reasons why I love playing this server is that it is very populated, and splitting the server into two worlds would certainly decrease the number of active players in Scania, where I will likely always play even if a low-rate server was introduced.
Is there really a problem with the rates? Is it not just the leeching, being able to receive exp from someone much higher level that is the problem? I personally had to go into nerd mode to reach lv 100 within 10 days (and I had 120+ ppl in my parties). Meanwhile I have friends whom barely play 2 hours a day and they still have not gotten passed lv 50 yet. Clearly the admins dont care about leeching, I personally find it very unappealing as a new player to see 1k smegas everyday advertising leech, channel changing and just seeing people afk with a bishop one shotting map. (and please dont tell me to find a new server if I dont like leeching, this is my opnion) I love your points but it feels like a major cop out to break up the community like that instead of changing the fundamentals which are the problem.
Unfortunately leech will exist no matter what rates the server has. Another private server that's discontinued had this deadly mode where you would login through a different world in order to play the "hard" world. But the secret was it wasn't a seperate world. Players would play with the regular users, except interaction between the "hard" mode users and the regular users was disabled aside from chat. This would be the ideal way probably, but the "hard" users would have to not be able to see regular users' fm shops, and vice versa, so that they can use the same fm space, yet have their own shops in there. This would just take a while to implement, so I suggested just custom rates on top of what we have for now.
Note: I don't really mind adding this feature. Spoiler: *cough* On Extalia, there was an @exprate command (which could be activated at the start of the gameplay) and players were able to select a rate for themselves (from 1 to 8). If the same idea was implemented here, the rates bracket would only be from 1 to 4. I don't see a problem with having the option to lower the rates for yourself, nor do I see how it will divide players currently playing on Scania (as you're altering it for yourself and nobody else). It is, after all, a personal choice for players who want to challenge themselves.
As someone already said, Extalia had a command for changing the rates any time you want, for people that actually want kill his soul trying it on a single level or as you want, regardless, this player should not get any extra reward above others for doing it. I'm disagree with adding other "world" with another exp rate and content, that would make staff pay half attention on the actual one. If anyone want to actually tryhard, i recommend going as an Islander, great community And they are supported by everyone, even Staff.
