There IS a difference between kill stealing, and assisting with the spawn.

So I went through a lot of the reports today, and quite a few of them seem to be 'kill stealing'.

Now, a lot of these reports were valid, and I did send in one my own (more or less verbal harassment whilst he committed the action), but there were a few that stood out.

For instance, one was a party of 3 players, who all 2-3 hit the mob they were training at (on a giant map mind you), reporting a guy that was intentionally trying to stay away from them. Player ended up banned. He was being a nice enough guy during the discussion in-game, and I feel he probably could've stayed unbanned if it had not been for his idea to come to the forums and be rather rude.

The point of this little rant here (I'll get to why it's in this section in a minute) is just to say calm down for a second guys. I understand that when a player comes in who is hitting 300-400% your damage can be seen as somebody who will eventually KS you, not everybody does that.

Again, this specific report that I am referencing was on a very large map. This wasn't ghost ship 2, this was larger than HHG. A map that can EASILY be shared between 4 people, and everybody would benefit from it.

As for the reason I put this in general discussion (in the mapleroyals board) is because I felt it belonged here due to being about mapleroyals and being rather general.

Apologies if I was wrong by that, and apologies to those who I offend by saying stop being so easily offended. Just wanted to weigh in from the outside.

Owning a map is like owning a house, just because you dont sleep in all the rooms, doesnt mean other people are entitled to use them without your permission.

That's one way to look at things I suppose. But in this case it's more like somebody wants to move into your house, and assist you in getting a promotion.

I understand why you wouldn't want them there in a 1 bedroom house, but in a 12 bedroom house, why not?

I guess I just don't see sharing a map as a bannable offence, where as kill stealing I do.

Assistance is great if you have permission of the owner. Otherwise, you're just trespassing. Sharing a map is no problem and I've done it many times by asking the map owner. You can't simply just come in and start attacking things without asking.

I do agree that people can learn to share more, but with the mapowner system, it really is up to the mapowner whether they want to share or not. and say you own a 12 bedroom house, would you want complete strangers to just force thenselves upon you and share the house with you out of the blue?

I don't think the house analogy is the best for this situation, but I get what you mean.

I have no problem with the mapowner being the deciding factor in this case, but at the same time I don't see it as a bannable offense. Idk.

This. And also, I don't see why some feel the need to compare this to the situation of a real life house. We're talking about a place where humans claim their homes in and something that is essentially a map in a game. Both these instances have completely different circumstances that can be handled very differently. Just my two cents ^_^'

As a newbie to the server I'm once again confused by proper map etiquette.

I was told that if you enter a map and want to make sure it really is being used (specifically on large maps where you can't see the red dot but suspect someone might be active in the area) and that the ~mapowner command isn't just showing the last person who was there and might have left a while ago then you smack something just once get to safe spot and then try ~mapowner again to see if it's changed to you or if the real owner is still active.

And if the status didn't change then you leave or cc, and if it did change then the map is now yours.

This is how I've been doing it, but is there another way?

Yes, you do not have to attack a monster to obtain mapownership. Simply attacking the air will work so there is no danger of ks'ing if someone is still there.

They are similar because you own it in a sense. If someone comes on your map, you can ask them to leave the map and they would have to.
