An Idea that I have been developing for over a year now.

    Hello there, my ign is Eltetas and I just recently joined this server. I've been playing maplestory for over 10 years now, I remember when Tiger was the no.1 on the US ladders and everyone wanted to play with him. I played on a v.62 private-server about 1 year ago and noticed that other than leveling faster than your friends or getting better items there arent realy much of a competition and after a while people loose interest in actually playing the game and they are just online to chat with friends. I started to think about a new implementation to the game and took some inspiration from World of Warcraft (yay for fantasy). World of Warcrafts player base is divided in Alliance and Horde, and we all know that the horde wins because they have Sylvanas, and this makes for amazing opportunities for competition in both PvP and PvE. I think that Maplestory needs something like this in the game and I came up with a pretty neet solution without actaully dividing the playerbase.

    First off, this is just an idea and feedback is ofcourse needed, I ALWAYS appreciate good feedback.

    When you reach level 10 you can choose one of two factions and you recieve a gearpiece representing this faction i/e a head or backpiece (this gearpiece will give normals stats for its level).
    as you go along leveling up you can visit your factions factionhall where you can recieve quests suited for your level and interact with other people whom have chosen the same faction as you did. As you complete these quests you will contribute to your factions factionpoints (coming back too this later on). Quests will increase in difficulty with your level and will give you better rewards as you go on.
    The quests will appear every day (these will increase in difficulty with your level and give better rewards).
    For example, a level 10 quest can reward you with 700 Exp and a gray equipment. In comparison, a level 70 quest can reward you with a couple thousand NX cash, some fame or a scroll (randomised?).
    Once you reach maxlevel you will no longer recieve exp for the quest, it will simply be converted into mesos. (500k exp = 500k mesos?)

    But hey, this isnt competition! no it is not, not yet!

    I mentioned in the 2nd paragraph that completing quests will contribute to your factions faction points. There will be a leaderbord where every single players collective faction points will be gathered and compared to the other factions points. The faction with the most points will win at the end of the (??? maybe 2 weeks). These rewards will ofcourse be individual depending on how much you did for your faction, remember that the quests scale with level so everyone has the same potential to contribute.
    For example, if team 1 collected 9860 points and team 2 collected 12000, team 2 will win the big reward (2-3 gachapon coupons per player?) while the players in team 1 will only recieve rewards based on their individuall preformance. The #1 player could recieve 1-2 godlike drops and 5-10 scrolls. Below rank 20 you will only recieve (Insert suitable reward).

    But El! Wont this divide out player base? Well yes but I have a solution. At the end of (said time) everyone will become neutral again and you can pick your side once more but you cannot change your mind. This will make sure that players from different factions that have become friends during the last period can team up for the next (season?) period.

    But how do I know wich faction someone is in? Its easy, you torture them.... No but this is up to the players if they want to say, or you could just check the leaderbords, everyone is on there!

    Faction names are up for debate but I like Chaos and Serenity!

    Edit1: You do NOT have to chose a ''faction'', the rewards you get from joining a faction can be attained through normal gameplay, the main purpose of a faction is to give players more options in interaction with other players while also playing the game instead of just afking in a major town or FM.

    Edit2: I realised that having only 1 daily quest giver would result in you only beaing able to contribute 14 times per season too your faction... This could be solved by removing the daily element but adding a level restriction between players so that high level players cant abuse the lowlevel quests in parties. If you are a tenth of your own level from your friends level you can help him with his quests. Your level=A, Friends level=B A+/-(A/10) = B+/-(A/10) then you can help


    Edit3: The rewards you recieve from joining a faction will NOT make you stronger in any way compared to players who chooses to not participate. Rewards given through factions will either be cosmetic or exactly the same value you could find in regular quests or boss fights.

    Here's the problem (in my eyes), you've pretty much taken the game and remade it into something else. The whole basis of MapleRoyals is to let you relive the nostalgia, experience the GMS that never was. The version of GMS we all identify with, while making improvements that follow suit with the theme of nostalgia while at the same time, making the game better. While I think this idea is interesting, I do not think it is something suitable for our server. Great job with the level of detail though! :)

    I understand! I do not want to make the game into something else, this will only become a small piece in the big picture! Think of it as a prolonged Guild Party Quest. It will take up 15-20 minutes per day as a player to complete and they will be able to go back to doing whatever they want after that. Its just another way to make people interact with eachother while also exploring maplestory, the daily quests could be done togehter and maybe just include killing Zakum wich would require a bigger effort and a big party. I do believe that this would make the endgame of the server ALOT more appealing instead of just standing around in a major town and chatting with friends when you could do the same and actually getting things done at the same time.

    I understand if you and your colleagues do not agree with me but I realy do hope that you can consider it! If you implement it and it does not pay out you could just remove it, the coding is minamal when most of the things im talking about already exists in the game.

    I also forgot to mention that you NEVER have to chose a faction if you dont want to, you can just ignore it and play the game as usual.

    So if a certain person puts in a LOT of effort by doing this every day, but a lot of people in his/her 'team' are lazy, he/she will basically never have a chance to get the extra reward?

    Also don't like the idea of giving out things like 'godlike drops'.

    Hmm.. Yes, but the bonus reward for the winning team is not as big as the reward for coming first in the faction leaderbords. So if this person puts in alot of his/her time in the faction she will still be rewarded. Im not even sure that two factions is the way to go, maybe a solo leaderbord for players would be the best thing, but having 2 factions open up for alot more PvE and PvP. Such as killing eachothers faction leaders or racing in normal party quests. If you are not satisfied with your current faction you will be able to change your alligance once the next period starts.

    Godlike equipment already drops from bosses, so I understand that it would lower the value of those drops. It was just a suggestion, scrolls and NX cash may be a better solution.

    If you can change your allegiance if you're not satisfied, what's preventing everyone from the losing team changing to the winning side, basically creating one huge fraction? Is there a limit to the amount of people that can be in the same fraction?

    As for a solo leaderboard (partially) based on PvP, what's stopping people from making more than one character, placing them in opposite fractions, then use one of the characters to continuously kill the other to rise to the top of the leaderboards?

    I feel like there are a lot of ways to unfairly manipulate something like this.

    That's not to say an idea like this is rubbish, it would just require a LOT of finetuning if it were to ever be implemented.

    You can only change your faction when the ''season'' ends :) Thanks for the feedback, I will edit the mainpost to make sure that you cannot exploit things like you mentioned.

    Make sure that you read the entire post thoroughly, you may have missed where I said that you cannot change factions once you have chosen one

    Then yes, you are correct that people could just change factions, that is why each faction should have something unique to make sure that players want to stay. But if this doesnt solve the disparity between the 2 teams then a forced balance has to be put in place

    so? Its still a good idea :) Most games take inspiration from others, only a few games are completely original.

    The point of this thread is feedback. Not random statements that have no purpose.

    On-topic: what kind of unique features do you have in mind to encourage people to join a specific fraction? Would it be an equip, a buff, or something else entirely?

    That is not for me to deside, it should not be something that makes you stronger than players who chose not to participate in the factions. Just some equipment but with the same stats as normals drops and a few extra quests for leveling. The main goal of the different factions is to create interaction while playing the game instead of afking in towns :) I was thinking of 2 different kind of wings for each faction, if you contribute alot to your faction you could be rewarded with a seasonal pair of wings wich will never be obainable once the season ends, if you prefer one factions wings over the others you might just choose that faction making it your goal to make sure that your faction wins, this is just an idea that would encourage people to play on one faction. Faction choices could also be accountset, like if i choose faction 1 on one of my characters the rest of my characters is automaticly directed to that one, unless I want a character without a faction. I have soo many more ideas, just give me feedback and I will come up with a solution as soon as I can :)

    Yeah, good luck with that :) Most ideas for games have already been thought of and implemented. One can only make them better or change the details
    And as Workteam said, I want feedback, not comments like yours. It does not help anyone.

    Yes thanks! I wrote in the OG post that one of the maps i've been looking into is Hidden Street: Eliza's Garden, do you know any other maps with maybe a darker theme to it?
