As you may have noticed, we've been hosting some new GM Events recently, including the following:

    • iSpy
    • Loner
    • Hide & Seek
    • Betrayal Russian Roullette (Needs a new name!)
    • No One Ever Listens to Me
    • Reflexes
    • Race to the GM (The hatred was very strong with this one.)
    • Last Man Standing

    Good, but can be improved.
Good event, I'd like to see this one back!
Meh, doesn't seem fun to me, to be honest.
    Okay, I guess.

More events will be tested, including most of the ideas and concepts created by Raddy (Detox).
    http://royals.ms/forum/showthread.php?t=4488

And we'd also like to know what everyone thinks of combining different events, like Marty has done lately (e.g. combining Betrayal Q&A with RR/JQ as knock-out round).

We're always looking to improve events, so any feedback you can give us would be welcome.

    These Events will be considered:

    • Scavenger Hunt (Monthly?)
    • Guess the Drop!

perhaps a scavenger hunter event? Give a list of a few random items to find?

There is too much JQs. I miss the days when there was a lot of RR.

A scavenger hunt may be possible, but this can't be from mob drops. Then it would definitely favor level.

Could be a scavenger hunt with "Hide and Seek" where several GMs hide and give hunts on where they are located. Players then have to find them and receive a signed item. First three people to collect all of the GM items win?

Something like "Guess the drop!" or anything similiar.
E.G. the GMs name an item (an ETC, or maybe equip)
The first to guess the mob dropping that item wins for example~
    GM: "Ginseng-boiled Water"
    Player: Ginseng Jar!

Or maybe guess the whereabouts of a specific NPC? For example~
    GM: "Agent Marco"
    Player: Omega Sector!

Just a few of my ideas, maybe there already are events like these, but if not, I'd like to see something other than JQs!

EDIT: I know these ideas sound very simple, but they could be changed/modified into something more competitive! (like betrayal for example)

Sweet. If you have my skype, tell me when you're about to host one. I'd love to see how some of them work out.

Scavenger Hunts should be a monthly event. For example: Upon clicking the NPC a message along the lines of: "x amount of items are needed to receive x" would pop up. Basically, another Glimmerman. There were a few other private servers that would hold monthly events like so; they'd even update players on the forums each month. Of course, since it's monthly, the amount of "x" needed to be collected was reasonably high and the reward would be well worth the trouble.

I personally like this idea; we'll look into it, it seems like a fun thing to do! We'll have to think of prizes, too, and what items to collect... When it would be e.g. Etc. Items, you could do it level-dependant: Lv21-30 collects X, Lv31-40 collects Y, and so on.

By the way, I will host the events that were liked most by all of you again once the people who got banned for vote abusing will be back!

I feel a scavenger hunt is an event that would also be well suited for Maple Island, should you feel like spending the time to implement it doubly. Mind, in the context of Maple Island it would, I feel, be more sensible for the item or items sought to not be a regular drop; given the nature of our limited pool of enemies that would make it far too easy.

Can we do something like Maple's Cake v. Pie wars where the players are split into 2 teams and have to battle a boss monsters (1 per side) after collecting certain amounts of items? First team to defeat the boss wins a prize (exp, special drops, chair, nx, etc?)

It might get the new players involved and give a chance for players to put aside differences and unite.

    Just a thought.

What about a weekly Scavenger Hunt on the forums, with the prize being up to the GMs. Chairs, NX, etc? Started every Sunday or Monday morning.

Would be easy to keep track of as people could bookmark the page and refer back to the list pretty easily. And encourage more people to be active on the forums.

Not going to take credit for this idea, A server I played on AltruisMS did this and the prizes were, if i remember correctly, 2 Set-Up items (ornaments from Christmas Event) that you exchanged for 4000 NX. It was very much worth it, it was like an extra 2 votes for people each week for not that much work/stress.

    An example:

    400 Squishy Liquids
    200 Charms of the Undead
    200 Cellion Tails
    100 Blue Essence
    100 Star Pixie's Starpiece
    150 Ligator Skins
    50 Jr. Necki Skins
    50 Leaty Furballs

I don't want to sound too negative about things or anything but,

I find most of the events pretty boring. Mostly because it feels like a lot of the events aren't for the participants to have fun, but for the GM's to enjoy themselves. This is only just my opinion, but I know that some agree with me on this (probably people that disagree too). I want events to be fun for anyone participating, meaning: ANYONE should be able to win and ANYONE should feel like they have "a shot" at the event.

This is why I find for example Q&A a worse event than others, simply because the players that have played the longest knows the most and have the biggest shot at answering the questions/winning. What I suggest about Q&A's is that you have a 50/50 chance of getting the right answer so that people have, like I said, a shot at the event. Even if you don't know the answer of a certain question, you still have a 50% chance to keep going.

This will make people that doesn't know every bit of the game feel like they actually want to compete in the events.

All this ^ that I explained probably shows that I don't like "Betrayal Q&A" or any kind of Betrayal event for that matter. This is because people get to know eachother quite easily in this community, since we're a small group of humans compared to irl-groups and such. When people get to know eachother, betrayal events just makes friends avoid betraying and just kick other players (in this case probably new players), also meaning: Not everyone has a shot at winning.

Don't take this as that I dislike all kinds of events, some of the ones hosted are really good since they cover what I ask for in an event. RR (Russian Roulette) is probably the best event to go with if one wants to bow to my tastes.

Let me finish by asking these questions: Doesn't events exist to amuse us players, and not to amuse yourselves (GM's)?

Isn't events supposed to be "newcomer-friendly", with anyone able to win?

This is what I find "definites" in events at least. Please share your own opinion.

    Thanks // Kaizen ~

    Edit:

No, I'm not implying I'm staff or soon-to-be staff. I meant we as a community but apparently brice took that the wrong way, so I apologize.

Arguing for the sake of arguing isn't cool

that goes for both of us.

Thought I'd throw out my opinion as GM here. I do NOT host Events to enjoy myself; on the contrary, I'd rather participate myself to get a shot at winning. I'm giving up all chances of winning events by hosting them.

And concerning your view on e.g. Betrayal Q&A: It depends, really. I'm currently working on a concept, half based on luck, half based on strategy. Betrayal Events add a touch of strategy to Events, making them challenging, fun and still fair. I will keep your comment in mind concerning the 50/50 chance after NOT getting the right answer; this will, however, be hard to manage, so will require 2+ GMs in most cases, which isn't always possible.

I again want to thank everyone for their feedback and, especially, criticism, since this can help us improve GM events. As I've noticed, some of the new events were genuinely disliked (*cough* Race to the GM), and I doubt you will see those reappearing. I also want to thank everyone on their opinions concerning the good old classics; I've been hosting T/Fs lately, too, as some of you noticed.

And to Brice and Raddy: Please don't argue around here in this thread, would you? No need.
