Hello everybody! I think we all have noticed that lately there have been a lack of GM in-game Events. With the spark of new players joining the server, I think the community would appreciate some in-game events since there have been pretty active GM's on lately, plus the new GM's!! (Hopefully there could be at least 2-4 in-game events per month). As we all know, the main in-game event that GM's do is Russian Roulette. Don't get me wrong, I love that event, but I've been seeing it as unfair and luck-based. I'm here to offer a solution where GM's start doing events that are more skill-based. I have a few suggestions for some skill-based (sorta luck-based too) events: 1. Jump Quest Sleepywood, Ellinia, Zakum PQ 1&2, Pet Park, Ludibrium (only maps I know that have JQ) Basically you jump on platforms and reach the end where the GM waits. The end (prize: any chair) How is this event fair?: People cannot cheat their way through the Jump Quest 2. Red Light, Green Light Green Light! Keep walking to get to the GM. Red light! Stop walking and sit on a chair or else you'll get seduced the other direction. Be sure to remember that the GM's can double seduce! (prizes: untradeable chair/nx) How is this event fair?: Randomly seducing the people whenever the GM's want. 3. Find the GM! A GM will go in hide and you will have X amount of seconds (depends on how long the GM wants to give) to stand somewhere. The GM will unhide and will give rewards to the people who have found them. (have to win 3 times in order to receive a prize. prize 1: nx, prize 2: more nx, prize 3: untradeable chair) 4. Russian Roulette (in the XO map) Same thing as the Amorian map, except you are able to go on both X and O of this map. For example, GM goes on hide and is on a platform somewhere on the O part. After an amount of seconds, the GM will unhide and kick all the players that are on side O, and everyone on side X stays for the next round. (or vice versa) GM's can do this until there's less people or after a few rounds. Then they will continue the event normally by kicking people that are on their platform. (3 winners. 3rd place: option of 3 untradeable chairs a GM chooses and the winner has to pick one. 2nd place: same thing but with different chairs. 1st place: 3 tradeable chairs a GM chooses and the winner has to pick one) [or however the GM's sort the winners for RR] New GM Event Suggestion: 1. Survival of the Fittest Basically this is a great event for higher leveled people who have what it takes to fight against the different bosses in the server. For example, there could be bosses like Jr. Balrog, King Slime, Manon and more. But, for the challenge, the GM's can summon bosses like Zakum, Horntail, or Krexel (i don't know if this is a possible option). Kill all the mobs (that do not drop any items/etc) and don't die! (prizes to the survivors: # of nx) 2. Ola Ola (Map is in Ellinia) Players will be in a maze of ladders and ropes. They will have to randomly climb up whichever ladder/rope and find the right portal to teleport to the next level. If you go up the wrong portal, you will be warped back to the bottom. Every time this event is created, the portals will be different. There will be 3 levels in this event. (prize: any chair) Of course, this is just a suggestion. Feel free to give me some feedback on this. Also, if you have more GM event suggestions, you can write them down and I can add them in the post. Also to decrease the amount of lag events give, how about adding a limit? I know many people wouldn't like that, but it'll be helpful to those who are bossing and training.
As far as I know, the GMs actually really want to host in-game events (I know @Aly and @Manny have been really itching for it), but the events were crashing the server, so they decided to temporarily stop hosting events for a while. They've started testing events again, but I'm not quite sure if they're ready to be back to what the frequency was in the past. ^-^ That said, I agree that in-game events are super fun and always appreciated!
Basically everything that Penny said! I'm DYING to host more (2-4 a month?! more like 3 a day if I had it my way!) but it's been potentially causing issues so we're being cautious with events at the moment! As for the suggestions; I have a thread with all the events we host and the ones you mentioned are all (with the exception of survival of the fittest - I will look into adding that one tho I like it!) in there plus more! But I do love suggestions, so if you have more; keep 'em coming! <3
Game events are fun, it makes more people to stay in game for fun. It was awsome at the christmas and valentine event when more people gather together other places other than free market :') but i guess it's a big job and stress to host it hehe. Forum events are great as well, but not everyone participate!
Now that we're on the subject of GM events, I have a question. If they do start to become more common again, could some of them perhaps be announced a few days in advance? I personally haven't had much spare time to play lately, so even if events were hosted regularly (which I know the staff would be happy to do), I'd probably miss out on nearly all of them. However, if some of them could be announced on the forums a few days early, I (and probably others with me) might be able to schedule my daily tasks a bit so that I'd be able to join! I do so love events, after all. Now, I understand that this is not always easy to do. The members of staff all have personal lives, and can't always predict when they'll be free to host an event. So don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for a majority of events to be announced, not at all. Just some of them, if it's possible. On-topic though: I'm not really a fan of the "survival of the fittest" event. In my personal opinion events shouldn't require a person to be of a certain level in order to be able to win. Now, I understand that level 10-20 characters might struggle in some of the events that are hosted occasionally (zakum JQ for example), but as a whole I feel like GM-events should just be for funsies, and accessible to people of any level. Also, that survival of the fittest would give a huge advantage to people who have HP washed. That's another issue I have with it. Good to see event suggestions though!
To respond to the point about GM events being announced, I think that goes against the point of having them. They are supposed to be (in my opinion) random events that pop up for those currently online, kind of like being lucky and being on at the right time. A lot of people are not on the correct timezones, or some other reason do not get to see many GM events, but that's part of the reason we introduced forum events, like the ones Jen and Aly have been running. Those type of events are different than what would be done in game, and literally everyone can participate in them, no matter how little or often you are in game.
I understand where you're coming from. I really do. I'm only speaking for myself here, but it can be kind of frustrating to log on to the game, only to have several of your friends tell you you've missed an event. That'd be no problem at all, were it not for the fact that GM-hosted events have become rarer than they used to be (completely understandeable, seeing as they've caused some issues). I don't think I've been able to participate in a single event in the past 2 months. Solely for that reason it'd be nice to see some events being scheduled ahead of time. Again, I'm not expecting (or wanting) this to be a common thing. I completely agree that events are the most fun when they're a surprise. I guess my reasoning is a tad selfish.
I'm sure I can speak for @Aly when I say, once the hault on events is over. We will try to run multiple events a day in order to try and cover as many timezones as we can. We just ask that for now you be patient, although it may seem like no events is bad. It is the best option that could have been made. This also happened a long time ago, before I became GM(not for the same reason). I knew that's GMs were far too busy to worry about hosting events that I decided to start hosting my own events , and started giving the community my own items, and some donated to me. If you feel like I did and think the community should have some events, I welcome you to do the same. It's not easy, but it is a lot of fun!
I know the events are causing issues but just thought I'd add how much I'm looking forward to them starting again! I remember first starting this server and taking part in a GM event pretty early on and I had great fun. Every event has always been entertaining and it's a great break from the grind or excessive slacking in the FM. Hope you guys manage to resolve it
Just on announcing the events a few days prior to them happening in game (when they are back to being hosted again) - I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea but just think it's not amazingly doable. I personally would just notice I have an hour to spare during my day and decide to host an event, I don't think I'd be able to know what my days will look like well enough in advance to be able to announce them all. I know the team-based events were planned and then people were always able to join those on the forums in advance so perhaps somewhere between those and the forum events everyone will get a chance to participate in something. (also like what @Manny said on hosting multiple events a day as soon as we can, I'm sure if we are able to host 3 a day like you'll manage to be online for one at least like once a week) <3
