Just a thought - how many times a day are you allowed to kill Pap? If I recall correctly, you're allowed to go in twice a day, so really, these Pieces of Dimension shouldn't be one of a kind or untradeable. People used to sell them in stores in GMS - a nice bit of extra earning for non-bossing classes and third jobbers.
You are allowed to enter Papulatus 2 times per day, however, the Pieces of Cracked Dimension are one-of-a-kind items and always were on GMS at least. You can still get your piece, do Pap, and then buy another one and do it again. You simply can't possess more than one at the same time.
They weren't one-of-a-kind pre-BB to the best of my knowledge. Personally, it isn't going to affect me because I'm not likely to be doing Pap on my mage babies, but I do think you're wrong about them being one-of-a-kind (pre-bb), and I don't think it makes sense. It's Matt's server and if he wants them to be one-of-a-kind, that's up to him, but I'm pretty sure it isn't how things were prior to 2011.
I'm pretty sure the quest wouldn't give you a piece if you already had one so people used to drop their piece on the floor, do the quest to pick up another piece, then pick up their piece from the floor and it would stack into two.
That is just a glitch that they didn't patch for ages though. I think their methodology was that allowing you in twice a day would possibly try to make people party up to do it and take turns using cracks. Which, in the early days, quite a few people did.
I think there should be the option to buy and sell them via hired merchants. That has always existed in GMS, at least throughout the pre-bb era.
