Hey guys, After exploring what might cause this problem I found the cause of this issue. Step 1: Locate your mapleroyals.exe file, right click it and press "Properties" Step 2: Select the "Compatibility" Tab Step 3: You will notice compatibility for mapleroyals.exe is set to "windows 98/me" along with the fact that the compatibility mode is enabled Step 4: You will notice that you cannot change those properties as they are greyed out. Select "Change settings for all users" Step 5: Untick "run this program in compatibility mode for :", once you've done that go ahead and tix the box "Run as Administrator" Step 6: Apply all settings and run mapleroyals. You should now experience faster loading times and less weird framedrops in case you experienced those related issues aswell. Happy mapling~
My OS is windows 10, and yes by disabling this you will get the occasional incorrect parameter errors again, a simple way to avoid this error is to move your mouse cursor all the way to the top left corner of your screen. windows 98/ME settings somehow create more memory leaks causing you to DC (think of the DC in zakum when you dont change your graphics)
It does seem to work for me that way, either way I do not know how to properly get rid of the error without adjusting the compatibility mode , however I do know how to get rid of these black screen DC's. I had several people try it , they confirmed it worked.
I don't doubt that your fix for the black screen issue works, I just wish I had a way of utilizing it.
Ever since the anniversary update my mapleroyals client was experiencing frequent memory leaks; -Frequent blank render boxes when you expand the chat bar causing a black screen crash seconds later. -Serious GFX bugs comparable to zakum when you dont change your graphics on a very frequent interval, usually resulting in a few minutes gameplay before a CTD -Crashes at bosses where you did not need to change GFX in order to not crash. -A general laggy client. -Cirtain effects would not finish the full animation , which can go unnoticed if you are not paying attention. -Usually 1-8 mins of gameplay after experiencing a random black screen - CTD, usually happens in crowded areas This problem was fixed for me and for several others by disabling the compatibility mode.
For me, I've attempted 2 Krexels and 2 Zakums since the patch and these are the points in which I had a black screen Zak1: Crashed as soon as the model began phasing in after an eye was dropped, no GFX changes were made during this attempt Zak2: Changed GFX around every 30 seconds - 1 minute DCed while all eight arms were up after around 2-3 minutes of attacking Krexel1: No issues after 20ish minutes of attacking left eye, dced while GFX on left eye death Krexel2: No issues again. Gfx'd on entry and around 5% of left eye health, dced on left eye death I have seen other party members drop out at the same time as I, so it does seem particular in when it happens, but I still do not understand what is causing it. I have been unable to utilize the fix offered by Darius as my MS only runs in compatibility with windows 98, and have seen another poster in the shoutbox experience my same issues while playing on windows 8 with compatibility for windows 98. While I was able to further my progress by using GFX more often than usual, I can't say for certain if it correlates given that nobody else dc'ed when Zak was summoned during my second attempt. I assume that nobody would gfx at that time so I'd have assumed that if GFX was the solution, someone would drop out. Given that I eventually dced in that run at a point where no phase transition occurred, it becomes even less likely to me that GFX was preventing it. As for Krexel, GFX did nothing.
hey darius I LOVE U MAN MARRY ME it worked for me deactivated the compability mode and now it has no graphical freezes any more can finally play again
It seems that by moving my cursor to the bottom right, I can run the game without compatibility enabled. I will update this post with more relevant information once I attempt a boss run. EDIT: It seems running without compatibility fixed the issue. I was able to run Zak with no problems whatsoever. A big sloppy thank you to Darius for posting this fix as fast as he did.
Mine seems to be a different issue, after being online (let's say I go to temple of time for example), after like a 2 minute period of killing monsters, everything starts to move in a slower motion and gets slower, as if I were lagging but it's like the game was set in a super slow motion to the point I really can't do anything, but if someone is there with me they see me fine , any reason for this? I can provide a video if needed.
it doesn't work for me. I am quite desperate as I have to try to ~GM and pray that they rewrap me to HT everytimes. It is really tired especially when no GM online(maybe). I can only krex for these few days.
I got it recently even with the above instructions stated which i disable compability. I did this settings a week ago. At first, it does works. But,recently, yesterday night and recently when i went to ht, it does simply come back(black screen dc) in ht. I also try different methods ie enable back and try different compability version but to no avail too.In addition, it seems zak and krex dont seems to be the problem but rather existing much on ht. The thing is I dont really think is the compability issues. There are in fact lot of people experienced this and did not report in forum accordingly. If it is the compability issues, before this patch, how come I did not experience this kind of situation before but rather after updating this patch(16 May 16)? Is rather annoying af to keep having this kind of situation happening again and again ... and what voon mentioned as above, unable to get rewrap of this kind of situation esp when no gm is on. been like a week or so since I have a successful ht run. Regards, Ray
This is a problem with windows/nvidia in general, the only way to currently ht without issues is running windows XP without compatibility mode. You still need to GFX after ht spawned though.
I do agree to a certain extent that it might be the problem of the windows/nvidia . But, to rule out all others but just this reason as the only cause of this black screen dc problem and a relatively 100% fixed despite following what you have mentioned, I feel it is just too simple to just sort of "close it-since i-have-found-the-fix", It just way more complicated than that. Matt the admin do have the same stand as well which he quote your suggestion solution in the other similar thread. (https://royals.ms/forum/threads/black-screen-dc-w-o-error-message-when-bossing.67114/#post-346891) But, I like to applaud on what you did on the suggested solution, which indeed proven to have help on many people outside there. But, to people like me, voon and some others who still facing this solution, oh well, it seems like we have to look at exploring at other possible solution to try to solve it. And of course, to answer your possible doubts, I do gfx more than often than usual ever since this patch came in. Cheers, Ray
