If your code base is anything like the so-called ThePack found elsewhere on the Internet it isn't all that complicated (which is not to say I agree with the suggestion; I don't).

That is to say, the ability point resets are handled by ./ThePack/ThePack/src/net/sf/odinms/net/channel/handler/UseCashItemHandler.java and is reasonably straight forward. A larger problem would be that the client wouldn't know of these restrictions.

A perhaps more realistic solution—had we not already lived with the present resets for a while—might have been to, say, halve the effectiveness of resets as applied on health and magic points, which is an even more trivial change in the above file.

I really feel this thread is pointless as mages are one of the best making money making classes in the game. High level bishops can sell leech at newties for up to 45m an hour, + they gain more exp with someone in their party anyways. If they have a pet on the platform looting mesos, that's another 10-15m an hour + selling dropped equips. As a 100 atk nisrock from newties sell for 10m ea. So on average, its fair to say bishops can make an average of 60m an hour selling leech at newts.
If you're I/L or F/P, you can still sell leech but for an lower rate, but with meso pick up and selling equips, they still make a fair amount per hour.
Not to mention any class can merch/gach/farm to make mesos.

I'm a shadower, I literally bomb mesos to train and level. An average of 8m a BF and 20m a Zak. Despite having the ability to sell BF leech, people would much buy off people like Illuminate (Mike) as they are much faster than me + i would only make 2m profit per 15 min BF anyways. So if i can cope with having to constantly make mesos and then blowing it up. I'm sure you can find a way to cope with high priced int scrolls based on supply and demand of the free market, which isnt a coding problem instead of complaining about it.

Some good points being brought up. I'm just wondering if their was a way to stop it and it looks like there will be a lot of trouble in doing so. I guess it is really the persons choice to do so. The limiting sp thing was just a theory. If I ever get into coding I will try that out but I hate coding. May take it up as a hobby later in life. I got nothing else to say :/

The main concern would be to disable the ability for, let's say, warriors to add points into INT, this being done in the Ability Screen (or however that's called).

OT: I'm afraid it is as it is.

I misread the original suggestion; thank you.

Regardless it is an equally trivial exercise; you'd change ./ThePack/ThePack/src/net/sf/channel/handler/DistributeAPHandler.java accordingly. Of course, as with my previous remark, this too has the limitation of (presumably) not carrying over to the client.

I initially did dislike hp washing as well, such a mechanic being far too easily accessible (as was of course not intended in the original maplestory) by all classes bar mages, and taking away the disadvantages/advantages which were characteristic of most classes. It was a big part of the nostalgia for me, how warriors and mages could take massively damaging hits that other classes could not.

Still, this suggestion has come far too late, as hp washing is already well-established as both a culture and economy on the server, and since practically every experienced player has already washed; removing it and denying it as an option to new players is simply unthinkable. All you can do I'm afraid is to either come up with some ingenious solution for current int scroll costs (which imo isn't really that big of a deal, since money is easily obtainable), or to go with the flow.

I think you're forgetting the astronomical costs of DEX gear and DEX scrolls as well, which are used by 4/5th of all the jobs. Int scrolls are low in supply to begin with because you can only get them at Ellinia and Shrine (which, among other things, is prone to giving people junk such as a single lonely piece of Melting Cheese), and demand has grown as the server has grown. Grow up.

(I personally feel like capitalism is stupid and given the chance I would go back in time and smash the heads of the people who thought it was a good idea but the Maplestory – Royals' especially – economy is one where the means of production aren't exclusively owned by a bourgeois and it's possible to move up in class status relatively easily if you wanted to. Your thread really only shows your sense of entitlement.)

Errrrrrr... Dex scrolls typically cost about half the price of their Int counterparts (although there aren't as many types of Int scrolls as there are Dex scrolls). Also Int scrolls are available from places other than Ellinia and Shrine, unless you're only interested in dark scrolls.

I think people just underestimate ellinia gachapon.

Yeah I remember right after wipe everyone considered Elli to be one of the best places to gach meso-wise. Probably still is unless you can luck a white or chaos at the others.

The high price of int scrolls haven't managed to stop every second character on the server being a bishop...

Not necessarily relevant. You don't have to have well-scrolled gear to be 4th job, especially if you spend the levels after GS2 HS-ing rather than grinding.

You also have to look it from a different point of view: Mages are probably the best mobbers in the game. They deal a shitton of damage, even without good gear, as Katsuruka said, giving them the oppurtunity to easily make money by selling leech, especially Bishops, since they possess Holy Symbol.

It's therefore (partly) justified that INT scrolls are expensive, at least, in my opinion.

Regardless of current HP washing abilities, INT scrolls were still the most expensive scrolls in the free market in the official servers (from my own experience and memory), due to being extremely rare and hard to obtain. And I don't really see the reason why mages should complain at all. People who would like to make good HP washing gear still need to pay the same price as you, and then also pay for scrolls/equipment fit to their character.

If you look at scrolls that really only affect mages (staff/wand scrolls) they go for a penny a pop, making mages pretty much the cheapest and (as stated a lot in this thread already) the richest of classes in the game, only having to worry about scrolling one set of good equipments instead of two. On top of that, HP washing people need money to spend on AP resets too (or use their own NX).

It all really comes down to what level of ambition you have and what goals you want to reach. Vicky out!

If DopeTurtle can do it, anyone can.

You don't need ANY good gear to make it to a high level. All mages after level 120 can make a fortune by selling leech anyway.

HP washing actually helps players and mages alike. If your buccaneer can't tank a hit from bigfoot, then your bishops HS becomes useless and just training at bigfoot in general. Not only that but it require a shit load of mesos that not even 1/4 of the players in this server have the time money and patience for. If you haven't noticed, INT is the most expensive stat in the market. And Overall for INT 60 goes for 25m-ish while Dex being the 2nd most useful stat goes for 15m for an Overall for DEX 60.

If HP washing was ever to be removed, then you might as well remove horntail as well. HT is hopeless without washing on all chars except mages. The tail alone can do 27k damage when buffed. Then seduce will make you walk into the tail and you'll get squished.

This. But I find lv130+ is better, that way players have lv10-20 genesis, lv10 MW and an ewand (lukless bish's/AM's) to increase the killing rate of mobs. 1hit = fastest leveling speed; 1hit isn't hard to achieve with ewands 5-8. It was harder in GMS cus they were nerfed like 1 or 2 patches ahead of this current one.

No clue about staff scroll prices, but wand scrolls (60% esp) are dirt cheap because they drop from Slimies and no, they're not mage-exclusive. Level 8 wooden wands are for any job class and quite handy as int gear. 30% wand scrolls aren't particularly cheap.

But HP washing on a bucc is silly and not worth the trouble. They're one of the only classes that can abuse their i frames. They're also one of the hardest to HP wash [citation needed]

Actually, Buccaneers have one of the easiest times doing HP washing. Not as easy as an actual warrior, since they do 50-ish hp per wash. But 40-ish hp per wash is still faster than normal. Iframes wont always save you. It's probably easier to just wash just enough than not go through the troubles of having to buy many safety charms, as bigfoot is the best way to train to lv200.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Pirates in general the most expensive job classes to HP wash?

Warriors - lose 4 MP per wash
    Thieves/Archers - lose 12 MP per wash
Pirates - lose 16 MP per wash
