This thread is designed to get some feedback on the characters and gameplay from the up and coming SSB game said to be out this summer (probably later, as per usual). I'd love some feedback on what you think of all of the characters returning/coming! Since the SSB site is letting viewers know a little bit ahead of time, I really enjoy looking at all of the content as soon as I can, and then being able to discuss it with people. SO. here's a little bit of what I think c:

I'll start off with the characters:

    #1: Pit

I think that Pit was a great addition to brawl. He fit the series nicely. For beginner play, he's kind of a troll, but for the more experienced matches, he seemed to fit right in the middle on the tier list i.e. could smash and get smashed. I'm glad he's back.

    #2: Bowser
    [IMG]

A given. He'll always be there, and he'll always be the extremely slow power house he was meant to be.

    #3: Pikachu
    [IMG]

Another given. He's been there since SSB 1, and he has too much of a fan base to be removed. Great character with unique game play. He can be a troll for the rookies, and a strategic force for the experienced.. Another good one to see, for the nostalgia or not.

    #4: Fox
    [IMG]

Another given. Always the fastest character on the roster, and I don't think we'll see that change. Not so appealing to the rookies, but always the character to brag about if you can manage to use his speed and not get knocked away at 70%.

    #5: Kirby
    [IMG]

    Given. [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] [UP+B] . That's all I have to say about this one.

    #6: Samus
    [IMG]
Given. Can't have SSB without Samus, you just can't. I think the potential of the character at high level gameplay will depend on Zero Suit Samus as it did in brawl, but we will see.

    #7: Link
    [IMG]
Given. Judging solely by how the moved him from SSB>SSBM>SSBB, I think he'll stay pretty much the same.

    #8: Donkey Kong
    [IMG]

Given. He's a tank, and he's a solid character if you know how to use him. Can't have the game without him.

    #9: Mario
    [IMG]

Nothing to be said here, obviously. We will see him and Luigi whether they tell us before hand or not.

    #10: Wii Fit Trainer
    [IMG]

At first glance, I thought; this is wierd as fuck. At second glance, I thought; well, I guess she fits better than snake did in SSBB(no hate to snake, he's a boss, he was just too overwhelmingly the odd man out in SSBB, lol). At third glance, I thought, well yeah, the fitness craze is kind of a staple in the Nintendo franchise now, so it makes sense to see a chacter like this. Although I think a wii sports type character would fit better alongside all of the other characters in the game
    [IMG]
, I'll have to withhold the majority of my judgement until I pop the disk in. I feel neutral about this one.

    #11: Mega Man
    [IMG]

Everyone wondered why he wasn't in the game at Melee, and then we remembered he wasn't strictly Nintendo. Now that they've started adding things outside of the Nintendo domain, it's no wonder he was added. He fits perfect, no doubt. Not much of a surprise (I expected him in brawl), but great too see. Very excited about this one.

    #12: Villager
    [IMG]

Animal Crossing is a huge Nintendo game. This is another one that was expected for me with the new game being so popular. It was a surprise who they chose to be the face of the game in SSB, but some heavy rep from AC was much needed and well deserved. Very excited to see this one.

    #13: Pikmin & Olimar
    [IMG]

I never really got into the Pikmin games. To be honest, I played half way through Pikmin 3 recently with no desire to finish it. Just not my kind of game I guess. None the less, he's fast, he small, he's unique, and he's all Nintendo. I liked him in SSBB, and I'm glad to see him back. My only disappointment in regards to Olimar would be if I figured out that he was placed over some potential characters to keep the roster tight.

    #14: Luigi
    [IMG]

    Addressed; a Given. Awesome character.

    #15: Peach
    [IMG]

Given. Just looking for any big changes here. Haven't seen much game to game. I expect about the same as SSBB.

    #16: Toon Link
    [IMG]

Toon link basically replaced Young Link. This change was okay IMO. I like him a lot because of the DS games, and you can't have 3 links taking up the roster, so some hand held rep was good here. I would take him over Young Link. what I'd love to see is a WindWaker ganondorf to go along with him
    [IMG]
. Or at least have him use his huge bad ass sword if they decide to keep him as a character. TL looks good.

    #17: Sonic the Hedgehog
    [IMG]

He's not Nintendo. This one is up in the air for me. He's a cool character I guess. I never really understood why they put him in to begin with. Who knows. He's all right, not too overpowered or anything. Good to see some variety i guess. Not a solid opinion yet.

    #18: Marth
    [IMG]

He's got his place in the SSB series. Great character. Upper tier, and a solid choice for gamers of all skill levels. The real question here is who else they will bring in the from the Fire Emblem series. I want Roy back, but Ike was incredibly popular. Who knows. Another great character to see on the board.

    #19: Rosalina and Luma
    [IMG]

I don't know too much about this character's context, but from the screenshots and gameplay, they seem to fit well. As a higher level SSB competitor, I just don't want to see another chain grab to hell and then finish like the ice climbers were. All of you like me probably thought the same. This one is up in the air for me.

    #20: Zelda
    [IMG]

A given. I think the real thing that we have to watch out for here is how they deal with Shiek. They changed her up quite a bit damage/speed wise from SSBM to SSBB. We'll have to see how that goes. Good to see another staple character redrawn in high definition.

    #21: King DeDeDe
    [IMG]

This guy was a surprise in brawl who turned out to be a nice addition to the heavy moveset characters. Even with his slowness, there was a lot of potential in high level gameplay for him. He's not one for the novices, but he is one with hidden potential. I hope to see him the same way in SSB4.

    #22: Lucario
    [IMG]

He replaced Mewtwo from Melee. Because of this, I think there should have been a next generation pokemon to replace him in SSB4. OR, I think they should have brought back MewTwo for nostalgic reasons. I think Lucario is a bit old for the current stage pokemon, but maybe there just isnt a pokemon to fill that moveset(I'm not up on the current pokedex). He is said by devs to have some new additions to his moveset, so I look forward to seeing that. Overall though, I am a little bitter about seeing Lucario over Mewtwo or a new pokemon. I will grow to like him once I get to play, though... eventually.

    #23:Little Mac
    [IMG]

Little Mac seems to fit very well here. His games were in 2d, so they could do pretty much anything they wanted to with him. We saw him in assist trophies in brawl, and it's great to see a brand new character in the mix. I don't have much to say for him, since he's completely new and totally unrelatable to anyone else, but I am very excited to see what they do with this guy.

    #24: Diddy Kong
    [IMG]

Diddy Kong was a great addition. I think he was deserved, and he was a completely unique character. Top of the tier with a very troll-like playstyle, he was a nice addition to the DK rep. The only thing to really watch here for the higher leveld gameplay is if they do anything with his banana throwing ability.

    #25: Zero Suit Samus
    [IMG]

Zero Suit Samus was a character that came into brawl as a surprise. She was still very high on the tier list because of the items she shed from her suit at the beginning of matches. The real test to see if she remains at her high tiered status will be if her buffs compensate for the assumed absence of the ability to use the items from her broken suit in the next game.

    #26: Shiek
    [IMG]

This separation of zelda and shiek I believe is well deserved, and a great surprise coming out of brawl. There was a lot of missed potential in the character in SSBB, and now that she will be revamped, I'm excited to see where she ends up damage wise. From the looks of the most recent Nintendo direct, I think we can expect a nice buff.Even more exciting to think about is which form will end up on top.

    #27: Yoshi
    [IMG]

A given. Yoshi's a classic. I expect him to be as useless as in the previous game, but who knows, maybe he'll get the OPed char of ssb4, xD. Not too much thought on him. All we know so far is that he stands up straighter than in the previous games.

    #28: Charizard
    [IMG]

Charizard was a TOTAL surprise to me. Nobody really liked him, he was slow and had an annoying and tough to play move set. There will need to be some major changes to this character in order for him to be someone I enjoy, and I do expect that. I will be very disappointed if he is too much like the last game. Seeing charizard here also means there probably won't be any other pokemon added, given there is now 4, which is a large roster presence already (identical to brawl).

    #29: Greninja
    [IMG]

Greninja filled the new pokemon slot. It was expected to see a new gen pokemon. I'm unfamiliar with him, since I stopped playing pokemon at emerald, but I'm optimistic about it. Good to see a new characte ron the board.

Who/what do you guys want to see? What do you think so far?

I will maybe add gameplay changes (tripping, edge grabbing, est. amount of chars based on reports, etc.) and stuff later, but I leave the discussion for that open in responses here.

Also, if you have not watched this, watch it:

The recent nintendo direct http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct/04-08-2014/#/video-ndirect showed us a lot about the up and coming stages. the most exciting thing I saw was that all of the stages will have a flat mode. That sounds sweet. What do you guys think>

I was always a fan of Toon Link in SSBB... Played him a bit too much, I guess.

I see Meta Knight missing... Guess he was too OP? :p

Is it 3DS-exclusive, or will it be released for the Wii (U), too? Sorry, I'm highly uninformed on the topic.

It's confirmed that the Wii-U version will come out quite a bit later though. They said the 3ds version is set for this summer and the Wii-U is set for late this year(probably december)

Ah, okay. I got neither... I might buy a 2/3DS, though, since there's some really good games for it, and with SSB4 coming...

Yes, one of the main reasons is Luigi's Mansion. Been a fan of the GC game for a very long time, love the concept and gameplay. I might, but I'm kinda out of money at the moment... ^^

The 3DS Smash Bros will also run at 60FPS if anybody cares about that sort of thing. That being said, I might purchase a 3DS in the future for this game.

Wow, I didn't know there was a Super Smash Bros. sub-community here! This is great :D

If you guys are bored check out Project M. Its a rewrite of Brawl with Melee-esque gameplay. It includes every character from all Super Smash Bros. games to date (41 characters total) and they have all been tweaked and changed to be more than viable. Its optimized for competitive play and boasts a wide selection of the best maps from the franchise. Its so good its actually been accepted into tourneys and stuff. Its amazing, you guys should check it out :D

This is sick. I remember just modding brawl with whatever random mods actually worked. I never knew there was an actual compilation of great stuff all in a semi-professional release. Thanks for showing me this! Now I'll actually have something to play if SSB4 ends up sucking, Lol. I wish this was more well known and accepted in tourney play. Mods can only get so popular without getting into copywrite trouble I suppose.

No problem! I was blown away as well by this, essentially a Super Smash Bros. Brawl private server, and we all know private servers get it right :D Its actually quite well known within the Super Smash Bros. community and has been featured in events such as KoC and APEX this year! Check out some Youtube vids, all the big names from Melee play it. There are also character descriptions and essentially "change logs" for every character on the site. Hope you guys enjoy :D
