Imo selling artwork is fine. It's true that the seller is gaining meso off of something outside of the game, but all the art being sold is created specifically for the buyer (meaning the artist isnt selling already made artwork) and as stated earlier the artist is spending time (that couldve otherwise been spent ingame selling leech or bossing, which would have made both exp and meso) specifically to make this artwork. It's also directly related to the game, and it's an activity taking place on the official forums of the game. If a person was to buy meso for money, she could become rich ingame by doing nothing, if said person happened to be rich irl. This cant happen when it comes to royals related artwork made specifically for other players, beacuse the artist has to work specifically to make a piece of art requested by a buyer, so a person can't sell artwork he/she has made in the past, and beacuse of that i think its ok to sell art. I also think its a great thing seeing all these artists in the community making art for the other players, i think its really cool and brings the community together. I vote that selling art for meso stays. An exception could be made to the rules to specifically allow selling royals related artwork. just my opinion
Because it is legal at the moment? I don't see what that has to do with anything. I used to farm heartstoppers with my bishop's bahamut, and I personally think that shouldn't be allowed either. Just because I think something shouldn't be allowed, doesn't mean I can't make use of it if it is allowed.
I've paid a few different people well over 200m for a piece of their art. (mainly because I don't really play anymore and as such I have no need for mesos) The amounts do add up. I'm sure some artists on here have made several billions with their work.
You seem to have a cynical view of trade and "advantage". Those that have nothing to sell do not lose anything by the existence of those who do. Banning it wouldn't help those not involved, it would only hurts those who are. Being able to do something others can't, draw good art in this case, is not necessarily an unfair advantage, and advantages are not necessarily unfair. The reason nobody is being taken advantage of is because nobody is incentivized to disadvantage others.
the reason selling art is/could be considered rwt is because you arent doing anything ingame to earn the money, just because it is related to the game/forums doesnt mean you should be given "free" money for not working IN GAME for it. you are basically gaining an in game advantage for doing nothing in game. edit: im good at earning money irl does that mean i can spend it on mesos? lul
I realize after saying it that my comment was coming from a difference in philosophy about rwt, I guess I wasn't thinking in terms of the integrity of royals as a game. If we do assume rwt is inherently bad then I do see the argument for banning art sale. However, then the question becomes "Is the unfair advantage of art sale worse than the loss of the art market?". The answer to that depends on to what degree the GMs are commited to ensuring total fairness, and just how big of a market art is(the bigger it gets the more it takes away from the game, but others seem to think it isn't that big).
i believe when most of the Art "selling" started, it was just heavily suggested that you donate to the artist's shop in-game. There is nothing wrong with a friendly donation when they are friendly donating art to you, is there ?
See, rwt rules just move the advantage from all those making art to just the ones that want to be shady about it, how is that better?
