running vmware for mapleroyal in 2016 "can't find gr2d"

after the constant DC'ed at zakum, I decided to download vmware. I followed everything on the above link but when I open mapleroyals in my vmware, it tells me it can't find proper screen mode for vmware.
I tried to setup.exe , it didn't work.
I tried to download new direx, but it's support for xp (the version of the vmware I use) has been cut off.
I tried to reset my monitor solution setting, it didn't work.

 

Top left corner > player > manage > install/reinstall vmware tools > ta-da!

 

no, it's in grey I can't click it

 

nvm, I installed the tool but it still can't find gr2d

 

Reboot the virtual machine, make sure that vmware tools process is running

 

I did, now what

 

Change the resolution to 800x600 or higher(assuming vmware tools is now installed) in the resolution menu you will be able to see that the display driver is the vmware driver

 

still doesn't work

 

ok fixed, just toggle "accelerate 3d graphic" at display in manage -> virtual machine setting
