Notice Discontinuation of Mac OS Support

    Dear Royallers,

    Despite our best efforts and exploring every possible avenue, we’ve unfortunately encountered unforeseen technical issues that mean at this time it will be impossible for us to have MapleRoyals' new source working on computers using the Mac operating system as initially planned. We can however confirm that development of a new cross-platform client is in progress which will work seamlessly on Mac, Linux and Windows. But this client will not be ready until late 2017 at the earliest. Until then the only way to be able to play MapleRoyals on a Mac computer will be on Windows through a virtual machine or Boot Camp. The aforementioned methods will require a Windows installation which comes at a cost of approximately £15 (for Windows 7), or a 90 day renewable trial that can be used for VirtualBox.

    If you are unsure on how to use a Virtual Machine or Boot Camp on your Mac computer, there are many guides online. For installing a Virtual Machine we suggest this guide: http://aruljohn.com/info/virtualbox-install-windows/, and for installing Windows using Boot Camp we suggest this one: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201468. If you need any further assistance please create a thread in the Tech Zone section on the forum where members of the community and staff can try to assist.

    We’d like to apologise to those affected by this development and offer refunds to players that have made purchases of RP since 1st August 2016 and are unable to continue playing MapleRoyals entirely (refuse/unable to set up an instance of Windows to play on). Refunds will total the amount spent on RP since 1st August 2016 and will result your account being permanently banned, however if you find that you are able to continue playing in the future, you will have until 15th December 2017 to have your account reinstated by making a repayment of the refunded amount.     I found that but I it is still opened ended.

    "Full SP Reset: Yes, we will allow a Full SP Reset with the release of the new source. We are unable to provide any additional details at this time because we have not figured out how we are going to implement it quite yet"

    For those considering quitting. Its not super difficult to set up a virtual machine on Mac. There are tons of people who do it and would love to help!
    or buy a pc ;) <3

    It's sad because most of the players decided to play/stay on this server since it was compatible with Mac OS. (I believe that Royals has a competitive advantage over other servers because of the Mac compatibility) As you may know many Macs are space limited (newer ones have small ssd space) so virtual windows might not be a option for a lot of people. (Some people also prefer to play this game on the Mac client vs parallels because of the slightly worse graphics and boot camp does take a lot of space) Overall, this update might kill your player base significantly (with all the mac players I met) until late 2017 (or when ever you decide to release that client for mac). Although you might not be thinking about it in a business perspective, you guys will also be losing a lot more donations in the near future (depending on the amount of mac players of course). Smaller player base = lack of donations = unstable server? Just my take on it.

    I'm also curious as to how this will affect numbers. Do you guys know roughly what percentage of players use Mac OS?

    Obviously from a business perspective this wouldn't occur if it were a large majority.
