Hey fellow Royallers! As you probably all know, the World Cup 2014 in Brazil will start on June 11! And what is a big sports event without betting pool? Robb and I have decided to organise a MapleRoyals betting pool for the world cup this year, since there must be quite a few people interested in it! To explain the procedure: During the group phase, you can bet on the outcome of the individual groups, not each individual match. Once the group phase is over, you can bet on each individual match, and we will update this thread once this is the case with the respective group winners. Those who guessed right will win, and if you're close to the actual result, you can win, too! There will be 3 winners per group. For those who are interested, I will post the exact procedure of the winnings calculation below; when you win, your winnings will be based on your bet and your place (1st, 2nd or 3rd). Alright, then! You don't have to bet on each group, of course. Choose the ones you're interested in and are willing to bet on; would be nice to get bets on all groups, though! Post your bet and the outcome you expect here for each group you'd like to bet on. I will keep track of all the bets in a spreadsheet. For those who don't know: Winning a match earns the team 3 points. Losing a match leads to no points at all. A tie gives both teams 1 point. Every team plays 3 matches; this leads to a maximum of 9 points, and a minimum of 0. Please pay us before the end of the group phase or the end of the match you placed your bet on! Spoiler: Winnings calculation First of all, all winners get their own bet back. Then, the rest of the betting pool is divided in shares. Then, every winning bet gets a factor: Lowest bet gets 1x, the rest is based on lowest bet. First place gets 50%, second place 30%, third place 20%. The amount of shares you will win is: ([Percentage won] / 10) x [Factor] The amount of mesos per share is determined by using this: [Amount of Mesos] / [Amount of shares] This way, your bet plays a decisive role, as well as your place. Odds are left out of the procedure. The winners and their places are determined by who is closest to the actual result. If there's a tie, it will get split up. For example, if there's a tie for 2nd place, both get 25% instead of 30%/20%.

If you want to change them, please do so now! On a side-note: If the rare occasion of 4 people winning with the same bet pops up, we will either choose the winner completely random or ask them before the final match what they think will be e.g. the result or the first goal scorer or something of the sort. For all matches after the group phases, we will include other factors like mentioned above, too, to prevent the same bets over and over again.
