Best character for making money that doesn't require HP washing? (not planning on selling leech!)

So, the character creation hype is coming soon and a lot of us are going to start a new character and I am no exception. It's long but please hear me out because my case is a little bit different here.

Well, I'm one of the few people who have never played maplestory for the sake of leveling/selling leech or something. I was always interested in pure money making in this game, so I can invest it later for a really godly and perfect character.. The things I enjoy the most in the game are scrolling items for profit, maybe some merching, solo bossing (like pap or BF), farming scrolls\items when I'm bored, you name it. Everything but selling leech and grinding like a robot for the sake of leveling. I just cannot stand it. That is what I was doing back then in GMS at least and had a lot of fun doing it, especially scrolling and soloing bosses. I never get bored from these.

I was thinking about making a bishop but they were not meant for soloing bosses (never played one so I might be wrong but this is what I see) and most of the bishops I see around are selling leech for profit, something I just can't imagine myself doing. It's plain boring IMO.
Obviously, I'm planning to do HT/Krexel/Zakum runs in the future and the runners are rarely taking FP/IL mages so they are out of the question as well.
Like I've said, I'm not planning to HP wash this specific character AT ALL. Maybe a little when I'm higher level and feel like it, but not sure about that as well. So no ranged chars/Drk for me.

That leaves me with a shadower, hero, bucc and paladin to choose from.

From these hero sounds like the best choice for me to make since they are much cheaper than shadowers to maintain and more desired than paladins and buccs for runs, but in the new source steal works and I never had a bucc/paladin as well so I'm not 100% sure and would like to hear your opinion on this one.

    TL ; DR

I hate selling leech and grinding all the time and want to make tons of money from scrolling\boss runs\soloing to fund a godly character in the future. Not planning to HP wash this char at all, at best I will do an extremely small amount of washes if I feel like it. What character should I open as a money maker with my playing style?

    Thanks

My personal breakdown of the options you gave for making money:

    1) Scrolling - luck based, so the consistent money you make from this is debatable. In the long run, more often than not you will break even or go negative.

    2) Boss runs (based on guild members/friends who consistently boss) - Zakum and Krex are profitable, but not much. It'll be hard finding a Horntail party because they usually have their own set parties and groups. Unless you get lucky from drops, Horntail is usually negative profit because you lose money using apples/stoppers/pots.

    3) Solo boss farming - when/if the server is more populated again, it'll be difficult to find BF, HH, Anego, etc. Again, not consistent or reliable income.

    4) Scroll/item farming - luck based, but more consistent than other options, you can expect 60m~ per hour.

    5) Merchanting - huge time investment to learn the market and learn how to buy/sell, the guide below explains it well. Huge profit if done correctly.

    https://royals.ms/forum/threads/the-merchant-enchiridion.7664/

Hero is the best character for you out of the ones given.

    TL ; DR
If you're interested in pure money making, you'll need to tough it out and start selling leech with a F/P Archmage + HS mule. If not, there are other options, they just won't be as fast or consistent.

I don't mind it being as consistent/fast as selling leech or the risk factor involved...This is what I personally find the most fun to do and I have made money from it in GMS actually. Let's face it - it's more fun to scroll items\boss run\solo than selling leech by repeating the same actions :) And it's all about having fun after all IMO.

Thanks for the advice and for the merching guide link, will look into it. From what it seems hero is the best choice for me.
    Other opinions?

You can also view "leeching" as farming for items/scrolls, and the leech income is just a side profit ~f2. But I agree, grinding and selling leech just for the sake of it is boring as hell.

I'd usually would suggest creating a bishop on an alternate account (or the character you want to wash and fund on an alternate account) to make money. Mainly because you can later leech yourself (saving a lot of money) and because the class is the easiest to make mesos with.
Also, bishops are wanted on bossruns due to ressurection and HS.

But seeing your criteria, bishops indeed aren't made for soloing bosses, so i'd suggest making a hero.

Hero is probably your best bet.
Just know that bossing for money isn't very viable. Zak only gives a small profit if your buyers survive (not likely) and if gen drops. Krex has like a couple of sbs that people actually buy but they're like 30mill tops. HT depends on luck, either negative money for your attack potion cost or a nice profit. Not sure if an unwashed hero is going to be wanted in many ht runs though but I don't play one.
Unless you're good at merching your main income will be gachapon.

Arch mage is still the best bet for actually making reliable money. You get paid to train, it's easy. Plus you can farm stoppers/charms etc

Yup. Last time I played (which was a while ago) Heroes were more or less expected to be seduce Targets at HT. So unwashed Hero is a no go (unless there's more than one Hero).

I don't know if Power Guard is still bugged and reduces Magic Damage like it used to though. If it's fixed a decently washed Shadower should theoretically be the #1 Sed target.

As far as the Topic goes I'd just pick any of the Magician classes for making money. They require minimal investment to do well really and are not limited to selling leech contrary to popular belief. I made the majority of mesos on my Bishop just soloing at Gobies (or self leeching new characters).

Ok so I have the mage option right now because I can see you are telling me that Zakum\HT runs are not that profitable in the long run so I won't be doing them as many times as I thought.
I have a lot (almost hundreds) of INT\wand scrolls actually so scrolling myself some nice equips that can be used later for washing my characters is not much of a problem. From what I see mages are cheaper than heroes and the mobility/farming is better and the books are cheap compared to bishop. So the magician class will cost me zero funding, unlike hero which will cost me more money.

I have never actually played the magician class so I don't know much about it. Are they good for soloing bosses from time to time? What about farming items? I was thinking about maybe making a F/P mage. So it's either mage (most likely F/P) or an unwashed hero right now. Any F/P mages can comment on this one?

The best and most consistent way of making mesos without selling leech was simply....APQ

but according to GM's (I think?) APQ has been nerfed, back in old sauce it was unlimited entry per day. In new sauce its limited to 2 entries per day.

APQ was perfect for any attacker class even non attacker class was welcome in some groups, and if you had the resources to run TRIO APQ you could rivial the amount of mesos/h that leeching would yield.

If APQ is changed to have 2 entry limits per day your only choice is making a mage.
you have 2 choices when it comes down to mage.

Arch mages: Cheaper skill books, only needs level 130 and meteor/blizzard 30 to 1hit skele and a ele wand, Ulu2 is one of the most relaxing leeching maps and yields about 65-80m/h (if selling). Im not sure if I/L can 1hit ulu2 at lvl 130 but should be close, I tested with a 130 FP.
(i spent around 20m on skill books on my fp in old source now prices are a bit unstable)
Downside is you have to make a HS mule, also HSing with a mule can be annoying because of the "attack limit" which forces you to move your HS mule from time to time so it can recast HS. Leveling a HS mule is annoying too.

Bishops: Once you hit level 120 you can sell gs2 leech, only problem is that gs2 seems to be nerfed(?). Mp3 is currently better which is a very annoying map to sell leech on i imagine.
Bishop funding is expensive, skill books are close to 1b ea (gene20/30), they are very dependent on gene and mw20 to be maxed to sell ulu2 leech or skele leech. Needs good int equips too.

zak/krex/ht doesn't yield you consistent income at all(ht is probably less consistent cuz of MoN so no one will buy htp). If you do choose to make an attacker, you should do daily zak/krex for the exp.

Grinding as a f/p is a pain until lvl 55, which is the lvl you max poison breath (doesn't work atm, but i guess it will be before character creation). Farming items becomes easy when you get meteor at 4th job.

As for the bossing part, i only really killed hh once, other then that nothing. So i can't really fill you in on that. Do note that the single target dps of mages is terrible.

    Hi. You rang?

While it's desired that Heroes be 30k HP on a Horntail run for the purpose of being a Seduce mule, it's not a necessity. If you have the proper technique and timing (and a little bit of RNG), you can be a seduce mule as a Hero even with 19k HP. Granted, it's safer to have 30k if anything goes wrong so that the run doesn't go to shit.

On the topic of money-making though, a magician class that can clear maps well and farm items to sell is probably your go-to as many will suggest.

if you're ready to slave your life away with the farm-life instead of having fun :^)

    Personally I don't suggest scrolling
One important reason I play this game is to test myself to see how crazy I can be
I have a great model to calculate the profit and cost I can get from scrolling some certain equips
However the greatest challenge is not bad luck but my madness
I've done several scrollings which, according to calculation, will make me lose meso. Like 30%+ws a certain equip rather than landing 100% event scrolls
or being bald enough (or just crazy cuz I was doing this when I'm drunk) to 30% without a ws on a 13/66 5 slot craven whose cost is like 2~3b. I actually landed the 2nd 30% with a ws
Doing these several scrollings do give me a great craven. But I lost billions in other trys, losing all I got from other safe and profitable scrolling. however at least I didnt lose hundreds of thousands irl lol

Cliche but I've to say, make a bishop.

    1) Make a bishop.
    2) Get Genesis.
    3) Spam Genesis at gobies.
    4) ???
    5) Profit.

This is by far the most consistent way of getting good $$. This, or AM ulti spamming at Ulu II.

At the moment gobies is awful :'( Like max 3 goby houses at once, each spawn 6 gobies and they don't seem to follow as aggressively.

Make a fire poison mage. No seriously. Highest base attack out of all the mage ultimates. Fire wands are easy to come by and cheaper than ice wands. Don't even have to sell leech to farm things, and you get elemental damage to monsters compared to a bishop. Meteor is dirt cheap compared to genesis, too. If you scroll for mage gear you can always re-use that gear for a character to HP wash later. Use red marker or clean work gloves for int gloves, single earring for earrings, etc. Most mage gear can be re-used for HP washing too.
Just gotta get through 2nd job hell, then you're golden.

So I've decided to make a F/P mage and maybe get a HS mule in the future if I feel like it. Can't wait for the character creation to be enabled again lol
Thanks for all the advice :)

Yeah, definitely isn't as good as old source, but I'm getting solid 60-70m per hour there. Pretty consistent source of income if you don't sell leech.

That is definitely not true, if you know market price, scrolls and your final product as well as risk in case of fail. You will come out positive the more you scroll. Made billions that way. Scrolling godly end gear is another story, but enuf to make mesos totally not true.
If you hate grinding, scrolling the right way is the only way to make mesos. Bossing is meh, with the amount of derps in this server assembling and finish boss to payment takes light years.

Like I said, "more often than not you will break even." You may have had good luck in scrolling, but the majority of people will never consistently make money from it.

IMO it depends on your knowledge of prices, the way you scroll and what you scroll. Obviously chaosing PGCs/FS for profit consistently is more than stupid if you ask me. Continuing to scroll an item with first failed slots is also not smart to say the least. But it works for me personally.

I actually had a godly hermit in GMS (when 12 att WGs were considered godly and there were no ws/cs and everyone scrolled their pink capes with dex/luk lol) all thanks to scrolling. I also have managed to fund my friends lukless mage and low dex DK, just from merching and scrolling, scrolling being my main income source. Don't underestimate it.

Let's me explain myself by giving you a simple example.
    Let's take 100 10% GFA scrolls and 100 60% GFA scrolls.

10% are like 1m each from what I remember before the new source.
60% are like 2-2.2m. Not sure about this one, let's make it 2.1m.
clean WGs are easily made from leather you get while farming other things. I have at least 50 clean WG on my mule ready to get scrolled. They are not that hard to farm.

Total cost will be around 310-300m on average.

I'm new to this specific server so I might be wrong on the exact prices on scrolls and gloves, but as far as I know, 11 att wg sells for at least 80m. I bought mine for 80 if I remember correctly but I see people on the forum selling those for even higher prices. Think 100-110m.
This is the most recent topic I've found:

    https://royals.ms/forum/threads/perfect-att-clean-skanda-clean-3-att-pgc-more.84209/

So let's assume it's 100m for each 11 att wg.

Let's say you have bad luck and you pass only 10 scrolls on clean WG out of the 100 10% scrolls (which is horrible luck if you ask me, I was ALWAYS passing much more than that). This gives you 10 3 att 4 slots gloves to scroll, for which you are going to need 40 60% scrolls. So you actually have 60 extra 60% GFA scrolls in your pocket. That lowers your actual investment to 185-175m on average because you can sell the rest of the scrolls later if you want.

Let's be honest here, it's not THAT hard to pass 4 60% in a row. You can easily pass at least 2 of these and you are golden. Anything more than that and you are making a good amount.
Even if you don't pass all of them on the other gloves, you still have some 5-7-9 att wgs. They are not as good, but they are worth something. It's also extra money you get.
You pass 2 of them, you make 200m. and have a profit of 15-25m just from that. You make some pennies on the side from 9/7 att ones and YOU STILL HAVE YOUR 60 60% GFA SCROLLS LEFT! :) That means your profit is actually bigger.

Even if your luck is terrible and you just passed one 11 att, you broke even or maybe made some small money. You only lose money if out of 100 scrolls at least 91 (which from my experience is unlikely to happen) have failed and you didn't made even one 11 att wg.

As I said I might be wrong on the exact prices and stuff, but you got my point.

That was just an example, you don't have to scroll only gloves or something. If you want bigger amounts and have more money to invest and feeling lucky, you can buy perfect weapons like cravens or sky skis and ws them with 10% and sell them for billions later. If you are not that rich, you can scroll INT overalls as well, or single earrings with INT because there will always be more demand for HP washing gear than for 11 or lower attack WG and you can actually buy the earrings and robes from NPC, but it costs more money to invest compared to gloves. So it's up to your budget. But my point is, it is doable if you know what you are doing.

    TL ; DR
If you know the market, the prices and what you should scroll, you will make tens of billions. Trust me on this one. But you have to be smart and scroll without emotions, using pure logic.
