Me and my best friend are really into movies. She's been going for years, and I want to say it's a relatively new hobby for me (since 2014). I personally love dramas, westerns, and horror. A well rounded plot with full, immersive characters is just too hard for me not to appreciate even if it wasn't something special or unusual like superpowers (even though I do like those things). Some movies I thoroughly enjoyed that are recent are: The Hateful Eight; a western movie featuring Sam Jackson, The Magnificent Seven; another western shoot em up movie with Denzel Washington, The Conjuring 2; SERIOUSLY creepy, few horror movies actual scare me and this one did. Don't Breathe is a very under-hyped thriller that deserves more recognition. Some notable mentions that aren't my favorite, but I still enjoyed them for what they are: Hardcore Henry (if you just like action, not a strong plot), John Wick and John Wick 2 (again, for action lovers out there), and Deadpool. Also, 10 Cloverfield Lane; I like it for the psychological dilemma. PS: Star Wars: Rogue One was WAY better than Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Check it out!
I just saw Arrival too, was really good. If your looking for more space type movies: Contact, Europa Report, and Apollo 13 are streaming. New good horror/thrillers (which are my favorite) movies I've seen recently: The Witch, Greenroom, The Guest, It Follows, Cheap Thrills, The Invitation are all on Netflix/amazon prime right now. Also if you haven't watched Black Mirror the TV show go do it now, it's on Netflix and is amazing. edit a few more that are streaming:Blue Union. The Wolf of wall-street one of my all time favs of this decade. The Hateful Eight great triple A flick from Tarantino's newer style of directing and formulating plot structure.
You liked The Witch? I liked it in that aspect for character development. EDITED: Sorry, could be counted as 'spoiler'
The Shutter Not to be mistaken for the American, inferior version. This one is the original Thai version.
Friend of mine recommends this A 38 year old doctor, no joke, he was like watch this movie, its my favorite movie of all time. LOL isnt it from like 1970?!
Trainspotting, clockwork orange, one flew over the cuckoo's nest, fight club, blow, city of god, the usual suspects, pulp fiction, inglorious basterds, reservoir dogs, serbian film, dead poets society, 12 monkeys I like movies that make you think/are with meaning behind them, if you just want to watch "mainstream" kind of movies and chill out ignore this comment
2004, haha. IMO it's one of the best Asian horror movie of all time. Would even say it's better than The Conjuring.
Well, I just got finished with this K-drama more of a show than a movie but it's called The Miracle/ My Secret Diary ( My Secret Diary was the name on Netflix).
Snowpiercer Watership Down Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy End of Watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force : Colon Movie Film For Theaters Spaceballs Mad Max
If y'all haven't watched Moonlight yet you absolutely have to. Absolutely profound movie. Totally deserved the Oscars over the overrated af La La Land (which was also an okay movie too tbf)
Do you like adventure movies? If yes, then I suggest that you consider "The House with a Clock in Its Walls" . You can find it on . Pretty cool story perfectly balanced between funny and scary

The two great movies that came to mind to me were: Sicario - Taking down drug cartel Windriver - Murder mystery on an Indian reservation Both are a bit more serious/realistic than normal movies but loved them both a lot Edit: oh forgot to mention Sicario is directed by the same guy as arival
