I dont get it. Isnt the code already done, since it is a private server??! Why do they have to recode it from scretch when they could just crl+V. As for going back to the old source, i am sure it would be the best choice lol. just delay the new source for when it is ready

I don't want to send this thread off on a tangent, but this is simply false. Just look at how a password hash works. MD5, SHA1, etc hashes are only one way. You can encrypt a password in a hash but you cannot decrypt the hash back to a password. (Before anyone starts posting links showing how MD5 has been "cracked", it's more like guess and check, not actually following a formula or calculation to decrypt the hash like you would follow a formula/calculation to create the hash in the first place).

From my understanding of the difference in structures and fields between old source and new source database, it might be possible to convert the data back, but would probably take longer than it would take for Kevin to finish coding the cash shop (read: a long time to write a converter).

Doing what the players want usually cripples the game. Look at GMS, people kept begging for more classes, easier training, ease of goldy weapons, more P2W, etc.

You've said you quit in a different post, so, why are you still here?

Suggestion: Maybe the staff could provide a little more updates/info as of what they are currently working on, the problems they face and so on. The updates that has been posted in the announcements are nice and all, but i think what i like the most about them, is seeing that there is work being done. (im not saying i don't believe you are working hard, i would just like to follow it.

I don't think GMS is a very good example. The game has been up for what, 10 years? A game needs to progress to stay alive for that long. So naturally more classes were added and training became easier. Afaik people didn't ask for more pay2win though, idk where you're getting that idea from. That was nexon wanting more money out of their players.

I think the perfect example is old school runescape. For there to be new content or any changes that aren't bug fixes added to the game, the community has to vote for them. They need to have at least 75% of the people who voted supporting it in order for that content to be implemented. Osrs is doing extremely well. In my opinion the reason they're doing so well is because they listen to their community and don't make changes that the majority of their community doesn't want.

What I am saying is the way you phrased your post, it is misleading and makes it sound like "eh it's just data. It can be converted back to the old source, no problem". Even while you may know that that is not how it works and isn't so simple, others may not know that and is why we see people make statements without knowing the technicalities behind it. Hence why I wanted to post the clarification and say I do not think what you had said was entirely correct :)

    Carry on!

Can any one of you close this thread?
It has gotten quite off topic in some instances, and I made my point.
Matt responded to me and all questions should be answered.

Alright, what about... RS, WoW, LoL, Dragonica/Dragon Saga, Wildstar?... don't even get me started on FF11 and Elder Scrolls online. How many other examples do you want that have tanked in recent years because of over the game succombing to players.

Also, OSRS is a separate thing, the content they vote on is not on the scale of wiping the last 2 and a half months. It's mostly QoL changes, it's not a major change

While I agree an official announcement should be made if the server requires more RP purchases from members to stay afloat while things are being fixed, this is the closest I could find in the meantime where Matt posted some screenshots about the bills and some information with it
